  • RamSoft Permanent License Transfer

Posted by YoopIRDoc on October 4, 2022 at 4:31 pm

These days the vendors want you to subscribe to PACS hosted on Amazon or the vendor’s datacenter — called the “cloud” for marketing purposes.  But some of us have our own datacenter and all the technical expertise to keep it running.   RamSoft is no  longer selling their on-premises licenses that allow you to host their software on your own servers without a subscription.  For the moment they will allow license transfers from companies that are no longer using theirs.  To be clear, this is not a transfer of patient data, just a transfer of a license to another company.

Now for the ask.  If anyone out there is a former RamSoft customer who has migrated data to a new PACS vendor and still has a left over permanent on-premises RamSoft license, I know someone who might be interested in paying for the license to be transferred.   Just send me a PM.

Also, the RamSoft website incorrectly states that they still offer on premises licenses.  You can’t get one, though.

Did they tell you that’d allow you to perform the license swap?
Given the model they seem to pushing it seems contradictory…also aren’t the “on-premises” licenses based on volume and have an attached support cost?

Seems like this might be a lot of work/hassle for temporary gain.

They’ll still allow it for now.  There are in fact benefits to having the on-premises license that I did not go into detail on.  Lets just say that you have a lot more control, flexibility and lower costs if you host it yourself.  The support cost is less than the cloud subscription cost.

Why not just convert to a PACS that will allow you to install onsite?
Are your costs that low right now?

I agree with the poster above, there are good options for converting to a PACS that will allow you to install onsite. Check out [link=https://nac.lifetrackmed.com/]Lifetrack Medical Systems[/link], they can scale and have a suite of options for you to work with more than just storage and viewing.

The strongest advantages RamSoft has are its RIS and HL7 engine.  PACS is fairly generic and not the reason I’m interested in a RamSoft license. That said, RamSoft’s image storage solution is nicely implemented.  The radiologist reading and reporting enviroment trades blows with the competition, coming out ahead in some cases and behind in others.

VM Hosting: Consider eRad as a competing solution. eRAD can be self hosted on vSphere, but is incompatible with Hyper-V.  RamSoft can easily be hosted on almost any virtualization platform.  They support Hyper-V, but from experience it works with no problems under VMWare and probably even Linux KVM.

RIS: eRad’s RIS is not as user friendly and would require more training of staff.  Total newbies can use RamSoft’s ordering and scheduling system with minimal instruction.  The RamSoft RIS is both user friendly and from a software development standpoint, well designed and written.

HL7: RamSoft’s HL7 documentation is very detailed and sufficient to build any interface you need to build.  MirthConnect is the underlying engine. Building interfaces is a lot easier if you can make VPN tunnels yourself and access the HL7 engine. Compare that to eRad.  eRad also uses MirthConnect as its underlying HL7 engine, but they make it difficult for you to work with it — at least the reps I’ve talked to say they won’t let you.

I didn’t want to get into all of that, but hey, if you know of another vendor that allows the customer to make use of in house expertise, I would be interested in hearing about them.  For my purposes a license transfer is an easy way to win in the short term.  Long term, everybody changes RIS-PACS vendors.

wouldn’t they be able to provide you with a potential list or have your AM help you with this?
Seems like they’re not really interested in helping with this if you have to post this on a message board.
