  • Looking to buy a RIS PACS solution for a single imaging center.

Posted by dr.peter.rohan on December 5, 2019 at 2:27 pm

Hi All, I am a Rad in Florida, and I work at a busy single site imaging center.  We are looking to upgrade our RIS/PACS to something with smooth integration.  I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a cost effective package.

Right now out ris pacs is not integrated and it leads to a lot of button clicking, which is becoming problematic as we get busier.  We have 2 rads onsite at any time reading and would also need home reading access and a physician portal.

I would like to make a one time purchase with a service contract, I don’t really want to go the pay per case route.   Since we are a small business, cost is always a factor.

If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears.

    Thanks

Intelerad as a pacs is a solid option (what we currently use).  They dont have their own RIS yet, but integrate with a bunch.  More on the pricey side, but when PACS is a crucial part of your business, you dont want to totally skimp out (we had 2 other pacs failures before finally settling on Intelerad).  Good luck!

“Integration” between a RIS and PACS has a very loose definition. What is meant by integration when both remain as stand-alone systems that share some information but still require separate access?

It should not be that difficult to provide functionality. Meaning, it’s not rocket science, it’s just good programming and addressing workflow needs.

I like our eRAD system.  Works great for our imaging center.

MEDWEB is one you might want to look into. They have a small RIS/PACS that is combined on a single server and if I remember correctly you do not need an HL7 engine.

The cost of a RIS/PACS for a single imaging center might be prohibitative and since you dont wont to go “per click” (SaaS) route it will be even more costly when you factor in service and support costs. GIve me a call, let me know what you have now, what you plan on doing in th future and I’ll give you some free advice. I’m in Orlando as well.

            Just for clarification.
Medweb has both on site and cloud offerings for RIS/PACS.
On site offerings scale from small single server 4tb to large multi-server installations with optional integrated archiving of 255+ petabytes.
As for HL7, we also have an integrated HL7 server for v2.3+ that can be licensed and interfaced to many other systems such as Cerner/Genesis and other EMR systems.
Medweb also has a Diagnostic Radiology Viewer that integrates with systems such as Powerscribe and a web only (no install) web viewer for Referring Physicians to log in and see only their own patients.
From small to large, onsite to offsite, there are many options at different price points to select from.

Didn’t Intelerad buy a Canadian RIS company a few years ago?

My Company uses [link=https://www.dicomfix.com/eng/index.html]DICOMFix[/link]. a great solution. It can tailored to suit your center. The price is very reasonable.

Infinitt has a solution that can be configured to your needs and is highly ranked in KLAS. They offer full cloud, hybrid, and full onsite solutions with offsite DR. As the Regional Sales Manager for the Southeast, and located in Florida, I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your needs. Please feel free to reach put to me at [email protected] . No hard sell here. If we are not the right fit for you then we (virtually) shake hands and part ways. If we are a good fit then we move forward. FYI, our RIS/PACS is built on the same database and offers 2D and 3D mammo viewing / tracking and pretty much every feature you may need. Fully web enabled and were rated 1st in KLAS 2019 for OP Imaging centers. I will tell you this upfront…We are not the least expensive, (or the most) but the right solution rarely is. (truth in advertising)

Happy with Novarad that has also NovaRiS.  Reasonable, easy, portable.  Developed by a neuroradiologist – for radiologists.
I also have an independent outpatient imaging center and about 6 others centers that send images to my server for me to also read. I’ve had it about 12 years now.  It’s come a long way and has improved tremendously.  I can read remotely from anywhere with Wifi (other countries, at 35,000 ft, cruise ships, etc)

I have had great success with RamSoft’s PowerReader.  They offer two models: Cloud hosted or physical servers.  If you have the in house computer skills, I would go with physical servers.  Cloud is essentially a subscription.  Physical server is a license tied to volumes plus ongoing support.

RamSoft is a well-integrated RIS-PACS with particularly strong RIS features.

          Best wishes.

I may have been your Account manager, LOL. I just left Novarad South and joined the team here at Infinitt North America. Obviously very familiar with their product.

I have done multiple PACS projects and I think for your situation a great option to look at would be [link=https://nac.lifetrackmed.com/]Life Track Medical Systems[/link]. They have pretty great leadership, were started by a Radiologist who knows your business model, and can scale to really anything you need.

I would welcome the chance to meet with you, as I am the Regional Sales Manager for INFINITT North America, who offers any number of pricing configurations to meet your needs. Please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] or via cell @ 386-597-9667. Incidentally, both our RIS and PACS reside on a single database and were both written internally, as the vast majority of our solutions are.

Can you define “written internally”.. I was under the impression all PACS/RIS companies used an existing Databases either open sourced or licensed.

Someone has already mentioned eRad earlier and it’s worth a look. I have not done much with their RIS, but have placed their PACS in hospitals, Radiology groups, and imaging centers. Good features and one of the most stable platforms I have worked with over the years.

What PACS/RIS did you decide to go with in the end? Are you happy with it and the pricing? Many thanks!

You should definitely check out INFINITT PACS/RIS. Code level integration, and the vast majority of their solutions all reside on the same database. I was formerly their RSM for the SE, and even though I have moved on to my role at TeraRecon, I still HIGHLY recommend them!
