Always happy to see people bringing algorithm issues up with Google. In August of 2018, Google instituted the “Medic Update” which worked to establish a website’s expertise, authority, and trustworthiness or E.A.T. In order to rank higher in the search engine results (through Search Engine Optimization, SEO), a website had to start establishing Authority in the niche being presented.

Google doesnt just care about delivering the most relevant information they also want to deliver the correct information. With certain types of searches, there is a huge potential to negatively impact users happiness, health, or wealth in other words, were these pages low quality, they have the potential to impact a users well-being. But this was a big push on website content only.

Google needs to catch up on their YouTube platform in the same manner. The ability to establish EAT on a YouTube channel is not as straightforward. There were guidelines on how to establish EAT on a blog, [link=https://moz.com/google-algorithm-change]like these.[/link] An example would be my About Me page on my Radiology website [link=https://theradiologictechnologist.com/about-me/]here.[/link] Along with my picture, I list my credentials, talks I’ve given, my LinkedIn profile, and even my resume. All YouTube has is an About Me page with no ability to use HTML (to add hyperlinks).

So, while the existing algorithm may be keeping the most authoritative creators from reaching the top…the time is coming where Google will have a better algo for that. Hopefully it is soon…
