Nickel allergy and Nitinol Stents
Does anyone have any experience with patients that have nickel allergy and that have received nitinol stents? One of our patients has suggested that she has itching and redness at the site {cephalic arch). Our physicians have prescribed prednisone, and ordered allergy testing to confirm nickel sensitivity. Worse case scenario- surgical removal of stent, possible financial implications. Literature and research is lacking in this area
New protocol is that possibility of nickel allergy be queried prior to any procedure.
Am interested to know if anyone else has experienced this.
