    Should be a safe D seat

    [h1]Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announces 2024 U.S. Senate run[/h1]

    LaRose announced Monday morning that he’ll vie for the chance to take on Democratic [link=https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/politics/2023/04/18/whos-running-against-sherrod-brown-for-ohio-senate-in-2024-elections/70123311007/]U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown[/link] in 2024, making him the third Republican to enter the fray. The race is drawing another spirited GOP primary as Republicans try to unseat Brown, who’s seeking his fourth term in the Senate.

    LaRose took the helm as secretary of state in 2019 after two terms in the Ohio Senate representing the Akron area. He’s championed Ohio elections as easy and secure and had [link=https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/07/01/ohio-trump-rally-featured-cincinnati-teacher-false-election-claims/7812156002/]little patience for conspiracy theories[/link] about the state’s 2020 election results. At the same time, LaRose questioned the voting practices of other states and [link=https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/politics/elections/2022/10/05/ohio-election-integrity-unit-launches-despite-voter-fraud-rarity/69536954007/]hired investigators for his office[/link] to tackle a “crisis of confidence” in elections. Former President Donald Trump endorsed his 2022 reelection bid.

    Brown is one of few Democrats up for reelection in a state that Trump won in 2020. Ohio has become increasingly red since Brown last ran for office in 2018, prompting [link=https://www.cookpolitical.com/analysis/senate/senate-overview/democrats-defense-2024-senate-race-ratings]Cook Political Report[/link] to label the race a tossup.

    The Ohio Issue 1 map (Left) is looking a lot like the Sherrod Brown 2018 senate map (Right).

    [link=https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/1689091393405218819]https://twitter.com/Redis…us/1689091393405218819[/link]

    It looks like Ohio Issue 1 is going to fail in Delaware Co. (northern Columbus burbs), which has voted Republican in every presidential race since 1916 and didn’t even vote for Sherrod Brown in 2018.

    ________

    Gives a road map to holding his seat in 2024. Press hard (and I mean hard) on abortion rights in the campaign. Sherrod Brown needs to portray him holding his D senate as a bulwark against nut-jup Republicans pushing through a federal abortion ban.

    [h1][b]David McCormick Actually Lives in Connecticut[/b][/h1]
    [link=https://apnews.com/article/pennsylvania-mccormick-residency-mansion-connecticut-oz-e84500b848f0be7efb9f9b3c495dd066]Associated Press[/link]: As Republicans aim to gain the one seat they need to retake the Senate in next years elections, McCormick is a top recruit. And before his anticipated campaign, hes working to avoid Ozs fate, frequently noting his upbringing in Pennsylvania, his ownership of a home in Pittsburgh and a family farm near Bloomsburg.

    But the reality is more complex. While McCormick does own a home in Pittsburgh, a review of public records, real estate listings and footage from recent interviews indicates he still lives on Connecticuts Gold Coast, one of the densest concentrations of wealth in America. The former hedge fund CEO rents a $16 million mansion in Westport that features a 1,500-bottle wine cellar, an elevator and a private waterfront resort overlooking Long Island Sound.

    The trappings of a wealthy enclave, well outside Pennsylvania, offer a jarring contrast with the political identity McCormick has sought to cultivate, which emphasizes his upbringing buck hunting, his Army service and his desire to serve his home state.

    [link=https://www.semafor.com/article/08/30/2023/poll-shows-matt-rosendale-up-big-over-nrsc-backed-tim-sheehy]Semafor[/link]:

    [h1]Matt Rosendale up big over NRSC-backed Tim Sheehy[/h1]

    National Republicans may have a problem on their hands in Montana. While the NRSC is backing 37-year old veteran Tim Sheehy for Senate, Montana Rep. Matt Rosendale would start with a sizable lead if he entered the race, according to polling prepared by J.L. Partners and shared exclusively with Semafor.

    The findings suggest Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., the chair of the NRSC, has some serious work to do in his backyard. Senate leaders are taking a much more active role in primaries this cycle after a series of disastrous nominees in 2022 and Sheehy is supposed to be Exhibit A for the new approach. Daines backed him [link=https://www.wsj.com/articles/montana-emerges-as-early-test-of-republicans-senate-election-strategy-56d773a0]immediately[/link] after he announced his run, touting his Navy SEAL and business background, and has worked to [link=https://www.foxnews.com/politics/tim-sheehy-receives-another-major-endorsement-montana-senate-bid-unseat-tester.amp]stack up[/link] endorsements including the states governor, Greg Gianforte, and at-large Congressman, Ryan Zinke  to scare others out of a run.

    At the top of that list is Rosendale, who lost to Tester by 3.5 points in 2018, but has been urged by some conservative allies to run again. If he prevails, itll be yet another sign that leadership is losing its ability to influence  and maybe even understand its own partys base.

    ,…

    Decent news for Tester   In a tight race he’ll want to run against the Freedom Caucus guy if he can.
