  • CQR petition, opinions wanted

Fellow Radiologic Technologists… can we talk about this dreaded Continuing Qualifications Requirements (CQR) for a sec..

I’ve started the process to get this thing over and done with. Not looking forward to it at all. I haven’t done regular x-ray full time in about 7 years, yet I still have to sit for this exam and answer pretty much the same questions that were on my original boards.

This doesn’t sit well with me. The test is free, but you have to pay for the CE credits on areas you may need improvement on. Now I don’t know about everyone else, but I don’t see myself doing well on this exam, especially since I’m full time mammo and have been for the past 7 years. (I can’t remember crap about positioning for head work, most of the physics, and film screen stuff)

    I’m thinking of starting a petition… who’s with me?!

Nurses don’t have to re-take their boards every 10 years, they have to keep up with their CE credits, just like we do, Radiologists do, Vet techs do…ect…
Why do Radiologic Technologists have to re-take the boards?? I feel as though our normal 24 credits we have to do should be enough. It’s all about money!

What are your thoughts? I figured if we can start a little ripple, maybe it could turn into a wave and this could be reconsidered…

My Radiologist just told me they all made a stink about the exam they had to do every 10 years and now they just have to answer a couple questions here and there. It’s also fre. We can make this change. I just need to get it started

I agree with you 100%.  I had to do the dreaded CQR 2019 for CT, and I only do CT about once a week.  I set up a FB page about it for all the techs asking questions. And there is a FB page “xray humor” that have a LOT of tech members.  Maybe send your request to that site as well?

I will have to do the MR one. MY old job dragged its feet about getting our clinicals (A private imaging center, get it?) signed off until the April 2010 deadline for certification/insurance reimbursements. I didn’t take the registry until October of 2011…I was on an open machine (Hitachi Airis) for ten years by then…open machine sees limited types of studies…I will get HAMMERED on that exam because I was not ‘grandfathered in’. Yeah, I am pissed off too. I will be starting a new gig (after being furloughed then layed off since June 2020) on Siemans 1.5T high fields so I may catch a break. But man, I sure felt like I was going to get screwed.
In short…the ARRT seems to be bending itself into a pretzel to appease the AMA…why bother?
