Miami Mayor Frances Suarez, and a recently declared GOP candidate for POTUS, big gaffe in an interview. Asked by Hugh Hewitt about China and the Uyghurs and didn’t know who they were. Then when he asked Hewitt about what he said he called them Weebles.
Get off the stage Mayor. You are wasting time.-
Suarez is only in it to torpedo DeSantis and set himself up for a run for Governor in 26

Jeff Roe, Rons boss despite having a terrible record of winning, is spending money like a wild man gone bad. Much of the money being used was raised for his Gubernatorial race, and transferred over (illegally?) because his Presidential donors have largely fled do to his terrible, and still falling, poll numbers. Ron is just wasting time!

Trump Maintains Huge National Lead
The latest [link=https://pro.morningconsult.com/trackers/2024-gop-primary-election-tracker]Morning Consult tracking poll[/link] finds Donald Trump crushing Ron DeSantis among Republican primary voters nationally, 56% to 17%.
Also interesting: Chris Christie, whos spent much of his time on the campaign trail criticizing Trump, has an enormous popularity disadvantage. Almost half of potential GOP primary voters (46%) hold unfavorable views of the former New Jersey governor, compared with 26% who view him favorably. He has 3% support against the other candidates.-

He’s on a Kamikaze mission. He doesn’t expect to come out alive.

Trump Wins Clean Sweep of Michigan Endorsements
Every member of the Michigan Republican congressional delegation is endorsing former President Trump for the White House in 2024, [link=https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-wins-clean-sweep-endorsements-michigans-gop-congressional-delegation]Fox News[/link] reports. -
Trumps Attack on Iowas Governor Hints at Vulnerability
Former President Donald Trump sent a Dante-like message to elected Republicans when he criticized Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday: Theres a special place in hell for those who remain neutral in times of crisis, [link=https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-iowa-governor-kim-reynolds-vulnerability-rcna93712]NBC News[/link] reports.
Political insiders say thats not hell; its Iowa.
The neutrality of many Republican elected officials in Iowa and across the country has rubbed Trump the wrong way at a time when he is the clear front-runner for a third consecutive GOP presidential nod. Thats because its one of the few evident counterpoints to the narrative that hes on a glide path to locking down the nomination.
Top GOP Donors Start Giving Tim Scott a Look
With Ron DeSantis stalling in the Republican presidential primary, some wealthy donors whod hoped he could beat Donald Trump are now giving Tim Scott a serious look, [link=https://www.politico.com/news/2023/07/13/top-donors-tim-scott-00106062]Politico[/link] reports.
Billionaire businessman Ronald Lauder, the Estée Lauder makeup heir who supported Trump in 2020, recently flew to South Carolina to meet with Scott, the states junior senator and longshot presidential candidate.
[link=https://www.foxnews.com/politics/tim-scott-sitting-on-21-million-war-chest-republican-presidential-nomination-race-heats-up]Fox News[/link] says Scott is sitting on a $21 million war chest after raising $6.1 million last quarter.
Separately, the Scott-aligned Super PAC known as TIM PAC raised $19 million last quarter.
Republicans See Trump as the Most Electable Candidate
A new [link=https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/fox-business-poll-trump-commanding-lead-south-carolina-gop-primary]Fox Business poll[/link] of South Carolina Republicans finds that the most important factor in a presidential nominee is the ability to beat President Biden in a general election.
One would think this would be a problem for Donald Trump, who not only lost to Biden in 2020, but is likely to be distracted by multiple criminal trials and a defamation suit during the actual campaign.
Trump is a very flawed candidate by any reasonable standard.
But thats not how Republican voters see him 51% believe he is the candidate most likely to beat Biden. No one else comes close.

I’m no student of political history, and I’m sure there have been worse collapses/dumber campaigns than what DeSantis is doing, but none come immediately to mind.
A few quips and observations sum up his campaign to me:
1. “He’s Trump without the jokes”
2. He’s to the right of Trump on almost everything (less witty, more accurate)
3. Picking fights with Disney etc was idiotic.
Far right, anti-business, short fuse, etc. He took a landslide win in Florida (which despite recent journalism is hardly a far right state– went 51%/49% Trump/Biden in 2020 vs ~70/30 Trump/Biden in W Virginia/Wyoming) and just completely blew it.

Six months ago, you would have said there were two tiers: Trump and DeSantis, and then everyone else. Now you have Donald Trump in a tier by himself and you have everyone else trying to be the alternative to Trump.
Iowa GOP strategist Craig Robinson, quoted by the [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/29/us/politics/trump-desantis-republican-presidential-iowa-caucus.html]New York Times[/link].
