Hi guys need some guidance. I am a recent grad and am have been awaiting a full time perm gig start that is taking some time to credential. I have been applying for locums opportunities in the meantime, but having some difficulty given I did residency in 2 diff programs and had a gap. I successfully completed the program, and am just looking for any tips/advice on best ways to overcome getting red flagged/rejected at hospital credentialing meetings from the Jump due to having to always explain my gap. It seems this is worse at hospitals than standalone imaging centers? I know I am going to have to always explain things on paperwork and applications, but am I forever doomed or is there a way I can get a chance? If anyone has any advice or how to help me I greatly appreciate it.

don’t make a big fuss over it. If asked, just say “took time off for some very important personal reasons.” Leave it at that.

People have a lot of reasons for having a gap, such as health problems, death in the family necessitating personal time off, pregnancy, programs closing, illness, etc. Shit happens all the time.

I had to take a year off because I had to take care of a sick parent which was cross country out of town, and was able to relocate to another residency program a year later closer to my parent’s home. It all worked out. If you have completed a composite 4 years in radiology, passed your boards – you should be OK. A fellowship would also be helpful in this situation.
