{F}ree speech is not the same thing as consequence-free speech. The former is guaranteed by the Constitution. The latter is not.

[b]There is no right in this country to say grossly offensive things and expect those who are offended not to react. [/b]If Adams failed to understand that before his rhetorical self-immolation, he gets it now. My reputation for the rest of my life is destroyed, he [link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2F2023%2F02%2F26%2F1159580425%2Fnewspapers-have-dropped-the-dilbert-comic-strip-after-a-racist-rant-by-its-creat]said[/link] on Saturday, returning his badly burned hand to the red-hot stove that is YouTube. You cant come back from this, am I right? Theres no way you can come back from this.

{I}t has been a while since I had any reason to think anything Adams drew or wrote was funny. Before last week, he was already well on his way down the White persecution complex rabbit hole. Last year, he [link=https://twitter.com/ScottAdamsSays/status/1521099440936808448]introduced[/link] the Dilbert strips first Black character, who was hired [link=https://dilbert.com/strip/2022-05-02?creator=Dilbert_Daily]to add some diversity to the engineering team[/link]. On his [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6TnAn7qV1s]YouTube show[/link], Adams also recently said that Ive been identifying as Black because I like to be on the winning team.

This fantasy of Black Americans somehow being a privileged class is hallucinatory and hilarious, at least to Black folks I know. But it is consequential, too, because it is one of the imagined wrongs that animate the MAGA political movement. There is a direct line between Adamss rant and the MAGA effort to sanitize and distort the teaching of Black American history, because it is impossible to believe Black people are the winning team and at the same time acknowledge the centuries-old fact pattern of slavery, Jim Crow segregation and systemic racism.

Adams, Musk and most ambitious Republican politicians want to pretend that the past is irrelevant to the present, which is absurd. And they grasp at straws to prove themselves right. What set off Adamss tirade about how White Americans should get the hell away from Black people was an utterly meaningless Rasmussen [link=https://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/lifestyle/general_lifestyle/january_2023/not_woke_yet_most_voters_reject_anti_white_beliefs]poll[/link] supposedly showing that only a [link=https://mobile.twitter.com/Rasmussen_Poll/status/1628460192932237313]slim majority[/link] of Black Americans would agree with the statement, Its okay to be white.

Thats not a finding its a manufactured provocation. Its okay to be White is a [link=https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/its-okay-be-white]phrase known to be used by[/link] white-supremacist groups. Even for respondents who were unaware of that, what on Earth does the question mean? Is it okay for anyone to be White? Is it okay for me, as a Black person, to be White? Implicit in the question is having a choice that no one has.

The choice we do have is not to be racist. Buh-bye, Scott Adams.

Tennessee lawmakers passed a bill banning drag shows in public on Thursday, sending the measure to the Republican Governor Bill Lees desk.

The law would make Tennessee the first state to ban public drag, which could also affect LGBTQ+ pride celebrations and transgender people who are in shows of any kind. There are currently 20 bills in 15 US states [link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.reuters.com%2Fworld%2Fus%2Ftennessee-takes-lead-republican-effort-restrict-drag-shows-2023-02-23%2F]aimed[/link] at drag queen performances.

[h1]Dilbert Cartoonist Scott Adams Is Predictably On-Brand With Racist Rant[/h1]

Looking at that broader view, only a naïve fool would take anything surrounding that {“It’s OK to be white” Rasmussen} poll in good faith, and only someone who has been living under a rock for the past decade would think that saying what Adams said on that video would elicit anything but a rapid stampede to exits for anyone having anything to do with him or his products.

Adams is many things, but naive fool living under a rock is not one of them. Both his style of humor and his career are based on being the smartest guy in the room, the only one with the courage to call bullsh*t on the corporate doubletalk that is not only stupid, but also [i]illogical according to its own stated aims.[/i]

It is impossible to imagine Adams failed to see this coming. He seems to be betting that reaching whatever mass market is available to him through traditional publishers and the quaint legacy business of running daily comic strips in newspapers is one of diminishing returns, and the really big money is in joining the ranks of the righteously aggrieved victims of the woke mob. That audience has shown a remarkable willingness to spend money on behalf of sympathetic martyrs, regardless of what they are peddling, and someone in Adamss position probably considers it foolish not to join the parade.

By flaming out in the mainstream in such a spectacular burst of naked racism unconcealed by flimsy, bad-faith objections, he probably hopes he will end up right at the front of the line.

At this stage, which “woke train” off the rails are we talking about? The Democratic myth about how accurate truthful teaching about American history and more is “woke” or the Republican version of Fox “News” about White Supremacy and garbage about stolen elections and every hateful thing out there we had hoped we had expunged from American society years ago?

President Joe Biden issued the first veto of his presidency Monday in an early sign of shifting White House relations with the new Congress since Republicans took control in January. He’s seeking to kill a Republican measure that bans the government from considering environmental impacts or potential lawsuits when making investment decisions for Americans’ retirement plans.

Critics say environmental, social and governance (ESG) investments allocate money based on political agendas, such as a drive against climate change, rather than on earning the best returns for savers. Republicans in Congress who pushed the measure to overturn the Labor Department’s action argue ESG is just the latest example of the world trying to get woke.

Biden, in a video released by the White House, said he vetoed the measure because it put at risk the retirement savings of individuals across the country.

    [/link]

A [link=https://www.thedailybeast.com/what-florida-doesnt-want-you-to-know-about-its-book-bans]Florida[/link] charter school principal has been ousted after multiple parents complained that their sixth graders were made to view pornographybecause they looked at Michelangelos iconic statue of David.

The statue was shown during a sixth grade art history lesson at Tallahassee Classical School, the [i]Tallahassee Democrat[/i] [link=https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/education/2023/03/23/tallahassee-classical-principal-out-after-complaints-about-david-statue-lesson/70039104007/]first reported[/link]. One of the most famous pieces of artwork in the world, the statue shows a chiseled, naked man posing. But while most of the world sees it as art, some parents deemed it pornographic and said it upset their children.

Parents at Tallahassee Classical now want to take an advanced vote on any lesson their kids could be subjected to thats deemed controversial, part of a growing nationwide trend to dictate education supported by Floridas own education board and the DeSantis administration.

“The Tallahassee charter school, which uses Hillsdale Colleges classical education curriculum, is no longer affiliated with the college, said spokeswoman Emily Stack Davis in a statement.

Tallahassee Classical previously held a license to use Hillsdales curricular materials, she said. That license has been revoked and will expire at the end of the school year.

Hillsdale College partners with dozens of charter schools across the country to provide its K-12 curriculum, which prides itself on its classical approach to math, science, literature and history. The controversy at Tallahassee Classical distracts from the colleges classical education goals, Davis said.

Of course, Hillsdales K-12 art curriculum includes Michelangelos David and other works of art that depict the human form, she said.”

I think removing it from birth certificate is an appropriate response to what has been grossly discriminatory legislation by red states.

10 states already allow gender neutral birth certificates. I see no problem in allowing its across the board.

[link=https://www.newsweek.com/anheuser-busch-event-cancelled-amid-bud-light-controversy-1793722]Anheuser-Busch Event Cancelled due to Threats against local A-B Reps

            [/link]

Finnegan’s Wake, an Irish pub in the city’s downtown area, said in a statement that the event scheduled for April 7 was canceled due to local representatives for an Anheuser-Busch distributor “being personally threatened while performing their everyday job duties.”

“Threatening someone with a different viewpoint is completely unacceptable,” Finnegan’s Wake said in the statement, as reported by Springfield news station KOLR. “The hate and vitriol we have recently seen are not something we tolerate or support. If you have a problem with how a company conducts its business, it is your right to not patronize their business, but it is never okay to threaten physical violence, vandalism, sabotage, etc.”

“We support the rights of free speech, protesting, and religion, as long as it doesn’t threaten the rights and safety of others,” the bar’s statement read. “We will continue to support Anheuser-Busch, their spokesperson, and trans-rights. Stop supporting outrage politics, canceling, and anti-wokeness. Anti-woke is just a cover statement because you can’t say whatever homophobic, racist, or discriminatory outburst you want.”

Not sure if that’s true. According to the Daily Mail senior officials at AB were not aware of the campaign.

I think InBev is involved or owns a portion of a distribution company that is involved w dos XX

[h1]Republican state officials in Louisiana ask lawmakers to ban the study of racism at universities, citing divisive ‘inglorious aspects’ of US history[/h1]

GOP Party officials in the state want Louisiana lawmakers to prohibit the study of racism at colleges and universities, claiming the “inglorious aspects” of American history are too divisive, according to [link=https://www.nola.com/news/politics/louisiana-republican-party-pushes-ban-on-diversity-studies/article_80c692e2-da1a-11ed-b431-77c4585ca99f.html]NOLA.com,[/link] which cites a GOP resolution on the matter. The state GOP leadership also wants to nix diversity, equity, and inclusion departments at colleges and universities, claiming without evidence that such agencies stir political tensions on campuses and have overgenerous budgets…

States legislating prison terms for teachers and librarians who “expose” books to children. Unasswered is what is “obsene” and who decides what are “obscene” books? Books about LGBTQ?

All these people are completely crazy and getting crazier every day.

      [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/05/18/school-librarians-jailed-banned-books/]https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2023/05/18/school-librarians-jailed-banned-books/[/link]

Librarians could face years of imprisonment and tens of thousands in fines for providing sexually explicit, obscene or harmful books to children under new state laws that permit criminal prosecution of school and library personnel.

At least seven states have passed such laws in the last two years, according to a Washington Post analysis, six of them in the past two months although governors of Idaho and North Dakota vetoed the legislation. Another dozen states considered more than 20 similar bills this year, half of which are likely to come up again in 2024, The Post found.

Some of the laws impose severe penalties on librarians, who until now were exempted in almost every state from prosecution over obscene material a carve-out meant to permit accurate lessons in topics such as sex education. All but one of the new laws target schools, while some also target the staff of public libraries and one affects book vendors.

One example is an [link=https://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/Home/FTPDocument?path=%2FACTS%2F2023R%2FPublic%2FACT372.pdf]Arkansas measure[/link] that says school and public librarians, as well as teachers, can be imprisoned for up to six years or fined $10,000 if they distribute obscene or harmful texts. It takes effect Aug. 1.

The consequences vary slightly between states: The Indiana law, signed by the governor in May, says school staffers can be forced to pay up to $10,000 or serve 2½ years in prison for providing obscene or harmful material to minors. A 2022 Oklahoma law says school employees and public library staffers can be fined up to $20,000 or serve up to 10 years in prison for facilitating indecent exposure to obscene material or child pornography. One of the Tennessee laws, passed this year, says book publishers, distributors and sellers can face up to six years in prison and up to $103,000 in fines for providing obscene matter to K-12 schools.

Library administrators across the country say the flood of obscenity laws are already instilling terror in librarians.

You mean Disney movies like Strange World or Ruby Bridges?

You mean books like The Handmaid’s Tale or The Bluest Eye or Perks of Being A Wallflower or To Kill A Mockingbird or The Grapes of Wrath or The Catcher In The Rye or 1984 or Catch-22 or Animal Farm or Brave New World or The Hate You Give, etc?

I don’t recall any of those characters sucking any d1cks. Where are those scenes?

Or maybe you’ve not read any of them? Read nothing at all?

I’ll bet that is the truth.

Funny, I haven’t heard any of that only a concern with “gay sex,” but never straight sex.

Is 50 Shades of Gray banned? How about Kama Sutra, Fanny Hill, Fear of Flying, Tropic of Cancer and Lolita? Has anyone even bothered to read any of them?

    [h3][link=https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/04/13/joe-bidens-woke-conquest-of-ireland/]Joe Biden’s woke conquest of Ireland[/link][/h3]
[b]The president is using his Irish identity to bully Brexit Britain.[/b]

Brexit snowflakes need a safe space [image]https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif[/image]

Everywhere you look today, people are fashioning a victim identity from the suffering of their ancestors. [link=https://www.spiked-online.com/2015/12/28/never-mind-rhodes-its-the-cult-of-the-victim-that-must-fall/]Well-off students[/link] say they bear the scars of the colonial exploitation of their forefathers. [link=https://www.theguardian.com/society/2007/mar/24/comment.comment]Commentators of colour[/link] write of how hard it is to endure [the] historical inhumanity of slavery. Unable to find a convincing case for victimhood in their own comfortable, learned lives, they plunder the agony of their ancestors instead. Bidens doing something similar. A [link=https://edition.cnn.com/2023/04/11/politics/joe-biden-ireland-trip/index.html]gushing CNN piece[/link] on his visit to Ireland says his ancestors pain left an indelible impression on him. He is seemingly haunted by the image of the Famine-era coffin ships that left Ireland for America, so called because so many of the passengers died en route. In his memoir he even refers to lifes difficulties as the Irishness of life.

And make no mistake, Americas authority to thwart Brexit Britains ambitions in Dabiris words is immense. Biden is known to be [link=https://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/joe-biden-brexit-result-224763]anti-Brexit[/link]. He and [link=https://edition.cnn.com/2020/09/10/politics/nancy-pelosi-brexit-congress-uk-gbr-intl/index.html]other leading Dems[/link] have threatened to block trade deals with the UK if we dare to pursue a Hard Brexit in other words, [i]Brexit[/i], the complete leaving of the EU. In Belfast this week, Biden said the US would [link=https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/apr/12/joe-biden-us-investment-northern-ireland-power-sharing]invest $6 billion in Northern Ireland[/link] if the power-sharing Assembly is restored. But that can only happen if the Democratic Unionist Party buys into the Windsor Framework with its stipulation that the EU will [link=https://www.spiked-online.com/2023/02/28/sorry-but-this-does-not-restore-british-sovereignty/]still play a considerable role in Northern Irelands affairs[/link]. This is imperial blackmail, no? If Washington were to make the investment of billions of dollars in an African nation contingent on that nations willingness to acquiesce to a globalist agenda, to an American agenda, we would instantly recognise it as intolerable colonial-style pressure. But its okay, it seems, when it does it in Northern Ireland. Why? Because Bidens ancestors boarded coffin ships 170 years ago?

The president has carried out a woke conquest of Ireland. He has deployed the soft power of his identity to try to thwart the democratic wish of the majority of British voters to withdraw our entire nation from the European Union. Behold Victim Imperialism, cry-bullying as foreign policy. Both Britain and Ireland lose out as a result of this expansion of American power in Anglo-Irish affairs. Britain loses out because our internal democracy is being subtly subverted by economic blackmail and threats from Washington. Soften Brexit if you want to trade with us

Got it now, the magazine is conservative, extreme right-wing not known for allowing facts to get in the way when politics comes first. The author and magazine are opposed to the Good Friday Agreement as well as they are very pro-Brexit.
