DeSantis Finally Says the 2020 Election Wasn’t Stolen Dismisses
After long hedging, the Florida governor went further than he has before in acknowledging that the election was not stolen.

Ive said many times: The election is what it is, DeSantis said, according to audio from the Iowa campaign event Friday. All those theories that were put out did not prove to be true.

DeSantis did not call out Trump by name and hedged his answer somewhat by saying that the 2020 election was not conducted the way I think that we want. He also baselessly accused unnamed election officials of ballot harvesting and social media companies of stifling information in the 2020 election.
But thats different than saying Maduro stole votes or something like that, DeSantis added. Those theories, you know, proved to be unsubstantiated.

Ron DeSantis Risky Attack on Donald Trump
Ron DeSantis has settled on a new attack, arguing that Donald Trumps giant COVID aid package is responsible for the nations current ills, from mail-in voting to rising national debt to freeloaders who wont work, [link=https://www.semafor.com/article/08/08/2023/ron-desantis-risky-attack-on-donald-trumps-covid-aid]Semafor[/link] reports.
Theres just one problem: It implicates almost the entire Republican party and possibly DeSantis himself.

Key takeaway: The original CARES Act was probably the least-controversial major bill of Trumps presidency at the time it passed the Senate with [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/03/25/trump-senate-coronavirus-economic-stimulus-2-trillion/]unanimous[/link] support and the House by [link=https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/27/house-passes-2-trillion-coronavirus-stimulus-bill-sends-it-to-trump.html]voice vote[/link] as Covid-19 ravaged New York City.

DeSantis suspends another elected state attorney. First, in Tampa with Andrew Warren, now in Orlando.

[link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wptv.com%2Fnews%2Fstate%2Fflorida-gov-ron-desantis-suspends-orange-osceola-county-state-attorney-for-neglect-of-duty]https://www.wptv.com/news/state/flor…eglect-of-duty[/link]

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday suspended State Attorney Monique Worrell of the 9th Judicial Circuit, representing Orange and Osceola counties, for what he called “neglect of duty and incompetence.”

At a news conference in Tallahassee, DeSantis said Worrell has not faithfully prosecuted violent crime and has been “clearly and fundamentally derelict” in enforcing state laws.

The governor said Worrell’s practices and policies have allowed suspects to avoid minimum mandatory sentences for gun crimes and drug trafficking, allowed juvenile offenders to avoid serious charges and incarceration, and limited charges for child pornography suspects.
DeSantis Backs Drone Strikes into Mexico
Gov. Ron DeSantis said on Thursday that he would be open to using drone strikes against Mexican drug cartels if elected president, [link=https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/ron-desantis-says-s-open-drone-strikes-mexican-drug-cartels-rcna99305]NBC News[/link] reports.

We will absolutely reserve the right if theyre invading our country and killing our people, DeSantis said when asked by a voter if he would be willing to use drones against the cartels.
When asked later by NBC News to clarify, DeSantis said, I said I would use whatever force we need to defend the country.
Wed be willing to lean in against them, and we reserve the right to defend our country, he added.

DeSantis Reset Doesnt Look Much Like a Reset
[link=https://apnews.com/article/desantis-republican-president-iowa-trump-2024-reset-662ac8017fcda6a9e9ede6a6034328ee]Associated Press[/link]: Less than five months before the first votes are cast in Iowas opening presidential contest, a growing chorus of would-be supporters within his own party is questioning DeSantis core message and political instincts amid a prolonged effort to stabilize his campaign that has involved three significant personnel decisions so far the two rounds of cuts and replacement of the campaign manager.

At the same time, new signs of tension have emerged between DeSantis formal campaign and an allied super PAC thats now planning to dramatically increase spending on paid advertising to help make up for DeSantis financial challenges.

DeSantis Greeted with Pudding Fingers Chants
It was an inauspicious start for Ron DeSantis in Iowa on Friday, [link=https://www.politico.com/news/2023/08/11/desantis-iowa-pudding-fingers-chant-00110860]Politico[/link] reports.
Chanting Ron DeFascist and pudding fingers on a megaphone while ringing cowbells, two protesters effectively cut short the Florida governors first campaign stop of the day at a large roadside rock painted for war veterans.

The steady march since Nixon (>50 years ago!) to ignorance and extremism by the Republican party and conservatives for political advancement starting with the South & still going strong.

[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/08/11/maui-fires-florida-desantis-climate-change-curriculum/]https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/08/11/maui-fires-florida-desantis-climate-change-curriculum/[/link]

While the world watched in horror [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/08/09/maui-wildfires-deaths-lahaina-hawaii/?itid=lk_inline_manual_2]as Maui burned[/link], Florida educators were busy adopting a new climate-change curriculum that minimizes teaching about the dangers of global warming and distorts scientific information.

If only Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) were stupid enough to believe all this, but a Yale- and Harvard-educated military veteran cant pretend he doesnt know better. Far worse than a stupid governor is an intelligent one who plays dumb and down to voters.

DeSantis didnt invent the strategy; its a tried-and-true approach that goes back (at least) to Richard M. Nixon and a 1966 stump meeting at the Wade Hampton Hotel in Columbia, S.C. Campaign aide Pat Buchanan recalled in [link=https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/05/26/the-fall-of-conservatism]a New Yorker interview[/link] that the room was filled with sweat, cigar smoke and rage, and the law-and-order rhetoric burned the paint off the walls. Leaving the hotel, Nixon said, This is the future of this party, right here in the South.

Floridas new curriculum is a product of the Prager University Foundation, a conservative nonprofit that aims to present The Other Side on hot-button issues. [link=https://www.prageru.com/]PragerU[/link], as it is known, has produced videos on a variety of subjects, including climate change, for kiddies as well as adults. There will soon be optional content in civics studies for the K-5 set. Does anyone remember kindergarten civics? All I recall is playing kitchen.

Are there different truths about climate change? Not really. Certain facts are no longer up for debate: Earth is warming; fossil fuel emissions contribute to that warming; the effects of climate change are evident in almost daily disasters. Today, we weep for Maui. Whats next?

The problem with some of the PragerU videos I watched is their both-sides-now approach to established science.

I would tell DeSantis the hard truth. In my 40 years in presidential politics, I have never seen a worse campaign and candidate. He should withdraw from the race.

Democratic strategist Joe Trippi, [link=https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2023/08/desantis-trump-campaign-primary-political-operatives-advice.html]when asked by Slate[/link] what advice he would give Gov. Ron DeSantis.

There is no good way for DeSantis to attack Trump about Jan. 6 or anything else. There is no point in chaining a goat to a stake in front of a T. Rex, then asking the goat to assault the T. Rex. It has not worked out well for other goats, many stronger and smarter than this one So, no, I would not advise the candidate who lost to the Mouseketeers to attack the T. Rex.
DeSantiss Plan to Lose the Debate and the Campaign
[link=https://www.messageboxnews.com/p/desantiss-plan-to-lose-the-debate?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=65026&post_id=136166440&isFreemail=true&utm_medium=email]Dan Pfeiffer[/link]:

The trove of documents includes a debate strategy memo, internal polling from Iowa and New Hampshire, and opposition research files on most of the Republican candidates (but notably not Donald Trump). The public and the press rarely obtain this level of insight into a campaigns strategy and research. There are tons of interesting nuggets, but what these once-secret documents do is reinforce the widely held notion that Ron DeSantis is running a miserably stupid campaign strategy; and he has no one to blame but himself and Jeff Roe, the GOP strategist pulling the strings of the whole operation.

DeSantis is trying to win in 2024 but still maintain viability for 2028; and Jeff Roe is trying to help DeSantis while preserving his ability to make money in a world where Trump wins the primary.

All in all, its a plan to lose.
DeSantis finally giving up on ‘Woke’?
On a weekend tour through New Hampshire, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida debuted a noticeably revamped version of his stump speech that focused more on the economy and border security issues that voters in the Republican presidential primary say they care about deeply while leaning less heavily on his reputation as a culture warrior and his record leading his home state, the [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/20/us/politics/desantis-stump-speech.html]New York Times[/link] reports.

Mr. DeSantis offered a more personal touch, opening one speech with an anecdote about his first visit to Fenway Park during his time on the Yale baseball team and told the crowd at another event about a stranger buying him an elaborate meal at a steakhouse where he got to wear his dress-white Navy uniform out in public for the first time.

Both reflected a marked change from his usual, more generic introduction, which remains in the speech, about sending President Biden back to his basement.
DeSantis Super PAC Makes Urgent Plea to Donors
Hours before the Republican Partys first presidential debate, the chief strategist for the super PAC that has effectively taken over Ron DeSantiss presidential campaign met with donors in Milwaukee, the [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/31/us/politics/desantis-super-pac-audio.html]New York Times[/link] reports.

Said strategist Jeff Roe, on a leaked recording: Now let me tell you a secret dont leak this. We need to do this now. Were making a move now. The day after Labor Day were launching and we need your help to stay up and go hard the rest of the way. We need 50 million bucks.

With urgency in his voice, Mr. Roe told the donors he required much of the $50 million in the next month before the second G.O.P. debate on Sept. 27. He said he needed $5 million a month just to sustain his Iowa operations. And he said Mr. DeSantis needed to beat Donald Trump in the next 60 days and separate from all of his other rivals now.’
