Trump: Wow. The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!
As hundreds of thousands of listeners logged off, Trump allies shared images to represent their excitement: a glass of wine and a laughing-to-tears emoji among them. Trump quickly posted a video to Truth Social that showed contrasting images of his boisterous campaign announcement last year and a Twitter screen showing the DeSantis discussion Preparing to launch.
Botched Rollout Undercuts DeSantis Theme of “Competent Trumpism”
[link=https://www.politico.com/news/2023/05/24/desantis-twitter-campaign-glitch-00098748]Politico[/link]: The risk for DeSantis is the prospect of the botched rollout forming a narrative and cutting against the very argument he is making to Republican primary voters that he is a competent alternative to the chaotic presidency of former President Donald Trump.
The governor has been portraying himself in public speeches and private donor meetings as a controlled, low-drama politician who embraces many of Trumps policy positions without the trademark unpredictability. But on Wednesday, DeSantis who fiercely values control was the picture of disorder.
-

DeSantis’ safe-spaces game plan will test the powers of the conservative media ecosystem. If he can get past former President Trump to the general election, he’ll likely have to appeal to more voters than the most conservative outlets can deliver.…
He followed that {glitchy Twitter } appearance with a Fox News primetime interview, and a radio interview with conservative host Mark Levin.
Today, DeSantis will appear with conservative radio hosts Erick Erickson, and then Dana Loesch. Friendly interviews earlier this week included a [link=https://twitter.com/AlexThomp/status/1661182022759378944?s=20]40-minute sit-down with Stossel[/link] and a[link=https://nypost.com/2023/05/21/casey-desantis-will-move-mountains-to-help-her-husband-ron-succeed/] glowing New York Post profile[/link] of DeSantis’ wife, Casey.

Teagan Goddard:
[link=https://politicalwire.com/2023/05/25/desantis-blows-up-on-the-launch-pad/]DeSantis Blows Up on the Launch Pad[/link]
Gov. Ron DeSantis could not have had a worse campaign launch. It would have been like Donald Trump tripping and falling down the gold escalator when he kicked off his presidential campaign in 2016. In the end, the event had all of the appeal of a glitchy conference call.
…
And it had a tiny audience, as [link=https://www.vox.com/politics/2023/5/24/23736883/ron-desantis-presidential-announcement-twitter]Ben Jacobs[/link] notes: “It attracted a cumulative audience that was smaller than he would have gotten on any single cable network, let alone a rollout that would have been covered live by all three and potential network television stations.”
…
But worse than all of that, the format forfeited the chance for DeSantis to showcase his wife and kids. He lost a chance to show voters he is a warm and affable person. Instead, it turns out DeSantis is exactly the same unlikable guy youve read about.
NYTimes columnists evaluate DeSantis’ campaign in the present:
[link=https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/25/opinion/ron-desantis-scorecard.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/25/opinion/ron-desantis-scorecard.html[/link]
David Brooks Ron DeSantis was overvalued before and is undervalued now. Hes still the most likely Trump alternative since he spans the Trump wing and the non-Trump wing of the G.O.P. But it would take a Trump implosion to bring that about. I doubt theres much that DeSantis can affirmatively do to control his destiny.
David French We should take Ron DeSantis more seriously than many pundits are taking him today. He has struggled under Trumps relentless attacks, but hes still the clear second choice, and its way too soon to write his campaign obituary.
Rosie Gray Ron DeSantis is the only Republican so far who appears capable of putting up a credible challenge to Trump. But his pre-candidacy wasnt very encouraging: Hes allowed Trump to define him as a personality-challenged weirdo, and he has made politically questionable moves like the six-week abortion ban he signed.
Bret Stephens Three months ago, I would have predicted that Ron DeSantis, fresh from his resounding re-election as governor of Florida, would beat Trump for the Republican primary. Now he looks more like the Ted Cruz of this electoral cycle, pompous, mean and not nearly as clever as he seems to think he is.
-
More seriously than any Republican not named Donald Trump. Ron DeSantiss weaknesses are obvious social awkwardness above all but even as his poll numbers have sagged, nobody else has emerged from the pack, so he enters the race as the only currently plausible vehicle for Republicans who dont want Trump again.
403 Forbidden
I will add a caveat
*IF* this glitchy, weird, underviewed Twitter spaces launch is the price Ron D has to pay for Musk to go all in on him and give a $billion, well, then its a different story.
Otherwise the format made no sense and the whole thing is a fail
-
saw a clip of Trey Gowdy asking him as POTUS what will you do about Ukraine. Then he goes into a minute of ending the woke military, and not worrying about global warming. I guess he doesn’t know one reason global warming concerns the military is because the use boats need cooler water for their nuclear fueling system. Also we’re likely to fight over resources once the glaciers melt away.
[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/05/25/desantis-announcement-musk-twitter-internet/]DeSantis and Musk bet on each other. They both lost.[/link]
You could hear this conviction, too, in the extended interview that DeSantis gave post-fiasco. Woke, woke, woke [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/05/24/ron-desantis-2024-announcement-twitter/?itid=lk_inline_manual_15]literally, three times in five seconds[/link]. This guy hates the mainstream media. He hates all this gender brainwashing! He hates the elite cabal, big corporations and local government officials colluding to do whatever bad thing it is the cabal is doing. It is absolutely not the economy, stupid. Its not inflation, or crime, or the nations waning influence around the globe.
Who on earth was DeSantis talking to? The better question is, who online was he talking to? His chosen audience, apparently, was meme-minded dwellers of the fever swamps. The event focused less on what his candidacy meant for America than on how cool it was that the campaign was launching on Twitter Spaces, as no campaign for so consequential an election had before, and how important it was that Musk had purchased Twitter. A President DeSantis, [link=https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/meatball-rons-sad-discord-chat]Sacks said at one point[/link], would be a cool-headed ruthless assassin. This sort of language isnt in Joe Six-Packs vocabulary. Joe 4chan, on the other hand
DeSantis and Musk, put simply, are betting on each other. DeSantis needs to create his own version of the Fox News audience that so loves his rival. Musk wants to turn his platform into his own version of Fox News one relevant enough that an Oval Office aspirant would pick it for his campaign pulpit. Yet on Wednesday night, they both lost.…
The trouble is, the internet is not America, and its fever-swampiest residents arent the Republican Party. Worse for DeSantis, relying on the internet to win over America is particularly risky for a right-winger. Cozying up to tech is tough for conservatives, because when tech works well, it does a lot of stuff they dont like such as removing hate and harassment, or fighting misinformation.
Musk himself has proved this with Twitter: operating a social media site according to an ideology that disdains everything required to successfully operate a social media site. His contempt for so-called censorship and fondness for offending normies has driven away users and employees alike. The platform has fallen apart to the point that it cant sustain a Twitter Space when it matters most. Musk and his allies have broken the internet, all right but not in the way they mean.
The anti-DeSantis media is trying to make a mountain out of this, but a technical delay at one event is a non-issue in the long run. But, it lets people who hate DeSantis have a little fun. That’s the entire extent of it. Yesterday’s news.
DeSantis has real problems: (1) Trump (2) Disney (3) he’s a Republican who picked a losing fight with a large corporation which, I think, is Florida’s largest employer (4) he’s no longer looking (at all) like a competent moderate. In fact, neither competent nor moderate.
People are trying to pretend that Florida is solid red MAGA country, etc etc, b/c they hate DeSantis. It isn’t. He won in a landslide b/c, at the time, he seemed competent and reasonably moderate.
I don’t have a crystal ball, but he hardly seems like the front runner to me.
-
Well Florida is a big ag state right? If Disney is employer 1 Im thinking Tropicana must be up there too. Hes not bright.
Anecdotal but I know a guy that owns a big landscape firm here in CLE. Even hes like things are Fd. They do best with migrant workers. Hes like white guys just spend time on their phone and cant hack the work. So what you see in that video is reality. A lot of crud jobs are done by the people we want to keep out.

sorry, was replying to earlier messages about the Twitter thing. Have not watched the video. But yeah agree if he’s anti-immigration that’s dumb too. I have friends in both the restaurant and construction industries. If you got rid of undocumented immigrants their costs (passed on to the consumer) would explode.
There are a bunch of reasons we need more immigration in the US.

A campaign launch is an opportunity to introduce yourself to the world. One of a limited number where most candidates not named Donald Trump can drive multiple news cycles of media attention.
The catastrophic launch isn’t the end of the world, but it is a significant lost opportunity and will make at least a few in the donor class give pause.DeSantis has real problems: (1) Trump (2) Disney (3) he’s a Republican who picked a losing fight with a large corporation which, I think, is Florida’s largest employer (4) he’s no longer looking (at all) like a competent moderate. 1 and 4. Disney is mostly a side show for the GOP primary. If he actually gets the nomination then it will go from nothing to a little bit of something.
People are trying to pretend that Florida is solid red MAGA country, etc etc, b/c they hate DeSantis. It isn’t. He won in a landslide b/c, at the time, he seemed competent and reasonably moderate.

He’s in second. He’s far behind Donald Trump at the moment, but 15 points or so ahead of the rest of the GOP second tier (Pence, Haley, Ramaswamy) and the kids table (Hutchinson, Scott)
Average of GOP primary polls:
Trump 54%
DeSantis 20%
Pence 5%
Haley 4%
Ramaswamy 4%
Scott 1%
Hutchinson <1%

It’s happening everywhere. Yeah! Maybe it’s my optimism?-
I don’t think Dems are going to let him pivot to the middle on abortion after he just signed a 6 week heartbeat abortion ban a month ago

I don’t care if he gets away with it. I wouldn’t believe him if he tried. I wouldn’t vote for him because he would make a terrible president for a number of reasons. He’s proven to us all that his judgment is pathetic.
I’m a merely happy when I see anyone in politics realizing it is wise to move to the middle. It’s happening in both parties. I am more optimistic than ever.-
Republican (never Trumper) friend of mine described DeSantis as the 2023 equivalent of the Giuliani 2008 campaign.

Ron DeSantiss Joyless Ride
[link=https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2023/06/ron-desantis-2024-presidential-election-campaign-florida/674274/]Mark Leibovich[/link]: DeSantis and his wife, Casey, had just finished a midday campaign event, and the governor was now working a quick rope lineemphasis on quick and double emphasis on working. The fast-talking first lady is much better suited to this than her halting husband. He smiled for the camera like the dentist had just asked him to bite down on a blob of putty; like he was trying to make a mold, or to fit one. It was more of a cringe than a grin. -

If someone is aspiring to the presidency and their critical takeaways regarding the Trump administration are that Trump was:
[ol][*]Too deferential to experts on COVID [*]Too anxious to distribute a life-saving vaccine [*]Not harsh enough on immigrants who were brought here as children [*]Too adversarial to the prison-industrial complex, and [*]Not passionate enough about the need for a rhetorical attack on the woke left [/ol] Well, then you are going to have to forgive me if I come to the conclusion that you are a deranged lunatic.

Yeah, all the reassurances I’ve read about DeSantis, like he will “move to the center” once he’s nominated (I can sell you a bridge too – cheap, very cheap), never exactly explaining what any “center” is to those people and 2nd excuse, he’s REALLY a Reagan Republican and will show that again, once he is nominated. But I ask, is that really their center? I really, really doubt that. Ronnie is a Lib RINO to these people in the party today. He would never get nominated in today’s party much less elected.
Texas Sheriff Recommends Criminal Charges in DeSantis Immigration Stunt
A Texas sheriffs department has recommended that the district attorney in Bexar County bring criminal charges over the first iteration of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis so-called migrant relocation program, the [link=https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/immigration/article276114271.html#storylink=cpy]Miami Herald[/link] reports.
Those flights last September sent 49 asylum seekers, most of them Venezuelans, from San Antonio to Marthas Vineyard, Massachusetts.
The operation allegedly lured migrants onto the flights with false promises of jobs and opportunities on the other end.

Newsom told Politico in an [link=https://www.politico.com/news/2023/06/06/florida-migrant-flights-gavin-newsom-00100644]interview[/link] on Tuesday that at least some of the migrants who were flown to the state capital of Sacramento appear to have been misled and sent under false pretenses. He rejected the Florida state governments insistence that the migrants all traveled voluntarily.
When you have the smoking gun, which is the paperwork in hand that everyone hands over to you, its pretty self-evident, he said.
Newsoms declaration came after California Attorney General [link=https://thehill.com/people/rob-bonta/]Rob Bonta [/link](D) said that Florida [link=https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/4034544-california-says-florida-behind-migrant-flight-to-sacramento/]appeared[/link] to be responsible for a private plane of South American migrants that arrived last week with no prior arrangement or care in place. Did Newsom declare for the race? Also he’s not the one that get’s to file charges. It would be the California judicial system.
Ron DeSantis’ Approval Rating Has Collapsed
[link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.newsweek.com%2Fron-desantis-approval-rating-2024-polls-1805073]https://www.newsweek.com/ron-desanti…-polls-1805073[/link]
According to online polling company Civiqs’ dynamic approval rating graph, DeSantis currently has a net approval rating of negative 19 points, with an average of 55 percent of respondents disapproving of him, compared with 36 percent who have a favorable view of the Republican.
In comparison, the Florida Governor’s overall approval and disapproval rating was tied at 47 percent in early December.
Ron DeSantiss flailing campaign team couldnt let Pride month pass without stepping on their own dick.
…
From there the ad takes a hard turn, with a deep house beat and images that work very hard to depict Ron DeSantis as the countrys most-based, faggot-hating, alpha male. The pro-DeSantis portion of the ad compares him to fictional serial killer and cannibal Patrick Bateman, the (purportedly gay) Greek warrior Achilles, and the floating image of the GigaChad, a highly photoshopped muscle man.…
Mike Figueredo of the Humanist Report [link=https://youtu.be/7AJmpXlfz1U?t=40]is quoted[/link], saying DeSantis just produced some of the harshest, most draconian laws that literally threaten trans existence (emphasis added).
Its important to recognize the context here. This is not one of those clip mashups where MAGA types make fun of hyperventilating lefties making overwrought claims about their opponents. Its exactly the opposite. This clip is interspersed with shirtless muscled men who are ostensibly there to demonstrate DeSantiss strength.
The whole point of the ad is that DeSantis is tough enough to go there and actually target the LGBTs, unlike that cucked Trump who just wants to be loved.
