Trump Urges Supporters to Gather at Federal Courthouse
Donald Trump, the only former president to ever face criminal charges, will make his first public remarks Saturday since the release of a federal indictment accusing him of mishandling classified information, as he and his allies issue inflammatory calls to action and escalating attacks on law enforcement, the [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/06/10/trump-indictment-speeches-georgia-north-carolina/]Washington Post[/link] reports.
Trump encouraged supporters to assemble on Tuesday in Miami, where he is scheduled to appear in court.
Said his post [link=https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/110516652745413008]on Truth Social[/link]: SEE YOU IN MIAMI ON TUESDAY!!!
[link=https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2023/06/10/trump-dumps-gas-on-the-political-fire-00101384?nname=playbook&nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&nrid=0000014e-f0ed-dd93-ad7f-f8edad790000&nlid=630318]Playbook[/link]: The backdrop is an unmistakable rhetorical escalation from Trumps supporters and even some of his rivals inside the GOP some of whom have not only attacked the Justice Department and special counsel Jack Smith but have cast Trumps indictment as a politically apocalyptic moment. -

FBI resisted opening probe into Trumps role in Jan. 6 for more than a year

In the DOJs investigation of Jan. 6, key Justice officials also quashed an early plan for a task force focused on people in Trumps orbit
{A}bsent from Sherwins {Michael R. Sherwin, then-acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia,}11-page presentation to Garland on March 11, 2021, was any reference to Trump or his advisers those who did not go to the Capitol riot but orchestrated events that led to it.
…
A Washington Post investigation found that more than a year would pass before prosecutors and FBI agents jointly embarked on a formal probe of actions directed from the White House to try to steal the election. Even then, the FBI stopped short of identifying the former president as a focus of that investigation.
A wariness about appearing partisan, institutional caution, and clashes over how much evidence was sufficient to investigate the actions of Trump and those around him all contributed to the slow pace. Garland and the deputy attorney general, Lisa Monaco, charted a cautious course aimed at restoring public trust in the department while some prosecutors below them chafed, feeling top officials were shying away from looking at evidence of potential crimes by Trump and those close to him, The Post found.
The investigation has been ongoing for a while now
I think the new news is that it is now a *criminal* investigation

Senate panel finds more pre-Jan. 6 intelligence failures by FBI, DHS

Committee report cites striking FBI shortcomings, says DHS analysts were hesitant in the wake of criticism from handling of George Floyd protests
The 105-page report said the FBI and DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis failed to fully and accurately assess the severity of the threat identified by that intelligence, and formally disseminate guidance to their law enforcement partners with sufficient urgency and alarm to enable those partners to prepare for the violence that ultimately occurred on January 6th.
The document sheds new light on the many different types of warnings the FBI received from nongovernmental organizations tracking extremism online, from the public, and from its own field offices. Days after the riot, The Post revealed the existence of a [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/capitol-riot-fbi-intelligence/2021/01/12/30d12748-546b-11eb-a817-e5e7f8a406d6_story.html?itid=lk_inline_manual_9]Jan. 5 report from the FBIs Norfolk office [/link]warning of online discussion of attacking Congress. But the Senate report includes a similar, previously unknown written warning issued that same evening by the New Orleans FBI office.
That New Orleans warning noted that some participants in the planned stop the steal protest had decided to establish an armed, so-called Quick Reaction Force in Northern Virginia.…
That was because, the report found, federal officials simply didnt believe what they were being told.
The agencies, the report concluded, were biased toward discounting the possibility of such an unprecedented event.
Hostettera answers are long and meandering. He just uncorked the claim that The real insurrection took place on Nov 3, 2020.
Hostetter testifies that it will be proven at some point that the election was fraudulent and that its an act of treason He was asked to explain his prior statements that the penalty for treason is death

DOJ is appealing the sentences against the Oath Keepers convicted of seditious conspiracy or obstruction, including the 18-year term for Stewart Rhodes. All of the sentences, even Rhodes, were well below what the sentencing guidelines called for.
Lock them up……for longer.

Wow! What a thread!
Sentencing is beginning in Jan 6 case of Audrey Southard-Rumsey Prosecutors will ask for 6 years prison, arguing she went on “violent rampage” in Capitol. And they say, while carrying a pole, she was a “principal agitator” in the mob — and called “for a 1776-style revolution”
…
Never seen anything like this in any Jan 6 hearing. Southard is unleashing a list of grievances. Shes thrown away her written remarks, ignored her lawyers warning, is glaring periodically at prosecutors and has launched into something of a tirade Standby
…
Potentially the most self-destructive thing Ive seen in the 1000+ Jan 6 cases so far
…
Southard walked to podium clutching a paper with her written statement. She tossed it aside and says to judge I wanted to tell you exactly what you want to hear, but I wont. I wont lie. There were vicious lies about me and she glares toward prosecutor
…
Southard: My whole dream of my life has been taken, because people have different politics than mine She then says Antifa was filming her on Jan 6
…
The judge has ordered Southard to stop turning toward and pointing at others in courtroom A US Marshal moved up next to Southard at podium. Right behind her as she continues speaking
…
Asst US Attorney immediately stands to tell judge the Dept of Justice is no longer agreeing to a reduction in sentence for Ms Southard for acceptance of responsibility The possible sentence recommendation just grew. Because of Southards words.
…
Whoa
Judge adds terror enhancement in caseFeds had sought 6 years prison New guidelines are now closer to 10 years

The Qanon Shaman wants to Reverse his Jan 6 Guilty Plea
In order to change his guilty plea, Angeli must convince a judge he received ineffective representation from his original lawyer, Albert Watkins. He now says that statements his lawyer made in an attempt to mitigate his crimes weren’t true.
“I never said I was duped by Trump,” he told the BBC. “I never denounced Q or the QAnon community and I am not schizophrenic, bipolar, depressed or delusional.”
…
Legally, rioters who try to take back a guilty plea are getting into potentially risky territory, said Mr Gross. It’s rare for courts to allow someone to do that, and when they do, they run the risk of facing a new trial – something that federal prosecutors have underlined in their response to Angeli’s case.
…
Because of his ongoing case, Angeli didn’t answer questions about his actions during the riot. But he implied that spending time in solitary confinement – which he called “a form of soft torture” – led to his original decision to plead guilty.
Angeli has used his notoriety to boost his profile since exiting prison. He has a podcast, runs online courses and sells merchandise on his website – including selling $44 flags, $33 t-shirts and $17 mugs.
He is also back to spreading conspiracy theories online, insisting that he is only trying to spread the truth about a variety of government plots.
And while he backed away from his statement in court that he would have done everything differently during the Capitol riot, he did express one thought that sounded almost like a regret.
“I really tried to stop people from going crazy,” he said. “I would have tried a lot harder had I known what was going to happen.
“But who’s going listen to the crazy guy in the face paint and the horns telling everybody to calm down?”

Vivek Ramaswamy says Jan 6 happened because of censorship (over Hunter Biden’s laptop) …. says it was just a ‘friendly preview’ of the violence to come

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy doubled down on his claim that censorship was the root cause for the storming of the U.S. Capitol, and that the Jan. 6 insurrection was a friendly preview of what the country could see in the future.
Ever since Donald Trumps supporters laid siege to Congress, Ramaswamy [link=https://www.mediaite.com/politics/vivek-ramaswamy-downplays-trumps-role-on-jan-6-after-old-comments-condemning-trumps-abhorrent-behavior-resurface/]has argued[/link] that the former presidents conduct was egregious, but that Big Tech censorship was worse than Trump pushing his lies about the 2020 election.
Ramaswamy affirmed this position of his when he [link=https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/meetthepressblog/vivek-ramaswamy-suggests-real-cause-jan-6-riot-was-pervasive-censorshi-rcna94387]spoke to Tucker Carlson[/link] over the weekend, telling him You want to know what caused January 6th is pervasive censorship in this country. You tell people in this country they cannot speak, that is when they scream. You tell people they cannot scream. That is when they tear things down.
On Monday, Ramaswamy went even further by describing Jan. 6 as a culmination of the suppression of Hunter Bidens laptop, other forms of social media censorship, and government overreach during the coronavirus pandemic. My concern, Ramaswamy said, is unless we reconcile ourselves with what the truth of the matter was that led to Jan. 6, thats really just going to be a friendly preview of whats to come in this country.

DeSantis on Jan. 6 riot: It was not an insurrection
During an interview with actor Russell Brand, DeSantis was asked if he would consider those who participated in the Jan. 6 riot insurrectionists or protesters. The Florida Republican downplayed the events of the Capitol attack, saying in part of his response, it was not an insurrection.
These are people that were there to attend a rally and then they were there to protest. Now, it devolved, and it devolved into a riot. But the idea that this was a plan to somehow overthrow the government of the United States is not true, and its something that the media had spun up just to try to basically, you know, get as much mileage out of it and use it for partisan and for political aims, DeSantis continued.
If somebody is honestly doing an insurrection against the U.S. government then prove that thats the case, and Id be happy to accept it, he added later. But all youre showing me is that there are a lot of protesters there. And it ended up devolving, you know, in ways that was unfortunate, of course, but to say that they were seditionists is just wrong.
-
absolute facts.
It was a riot. They had seen the left endorsing riots for the last two years and they were fed up as well and they felt like it was their time.
you think they were trying to over the country without any weapons?
Oh yeah, that one person did have zip ties or something.
(for the record, I was horrified that day and I was afraid that they were going to burn the Capitol down. Fortunately they were not there for that. Donald Trump should have been there in person with a megaphone demanding people to stand down,)

The attempt to overthrow the 2020 election is one of the biggest stories of the century….. the largest for our democracy since the Civil War.
Yes. We’re still talking about it… and will be for decades.-
lol wut?
The only way it gets talked about for decades is in lessons on how to make a nothingburger into something for political gain and control

Thomas Sibick sentenced to more than 4 years in prison for Capitol riotWASHINGTON Thomas Sibick and his lawyer came to the federal courthouse here Friday to tell the judge that Sibick is a changed man: not the manic rioter who ripped a cops badge and radio away from him amid the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, but a stable and increasingly healthy fellow with a new wife and a good job and a heart full of regret for an appalling action he still doesnt understand.
But former D.C. Police Officer Michael Fanone the cop Sibick assaulted on one of the most dire days in American history came to the courthouse, too, to speak of how much Jan. 6 changed him. Visibly angry throughout the hearing, Fanone made clear that the attack he suffered that day, and the heart attack and brain injury that resulted, ended his law enforcement career.
Fanone urged U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson to show Sibick little mercy. And in the end, she didnt, sentencing Sibick to 50 months in prison and then 36 months of supervised release. Sibick will also have to pay $7,500 in restitution.
I cant treat this as the biggest calamity in your life when someone elses life was ruined, Jackson told Sibick.
