CNBC is showing a Madoff miniseries( Monday and Tuesday)–and it shows all the tricks he did to get away with it( selling the con–like the Don –he would haul out papers, have fake computer data)–
I remember at a Trump rally he was saying Hillary will say see u in 4 years suckers–of course we are  all aware of his projection techniques by now and it’s his supporters who he was referring to as suckers and as he said[b] u let the snake in[/b]

David Brooks shows his admiration of President Trump and his intellect and accomplishments. And this is the 3rd time I’ve read about the Dunning-Kruger effect in relation to Trump in the past week.

At certain times Donald Trump has seemed like a budding authoritarian, a corrupt Nixon, a rabble-rousing populist or a big business corporatist.

At base, Trump is an infantalist. There are three tasks that most mature adults have sort of figured out by the time they hit 25. Trump has mastered none of them. Immaturity is becoming the dominant note of his presidency, lack of self-control his leitmotif.

He is thus the all-time record-holder of the Dunning-Kruger effect, the phenomenon in which the incompetent person is too incompetent to understand his own incompetence.

He wants people to love him, so he is constantly telling interviewers that he is widely loved. In Trumps telling, every meeting was scheduled for 15 minutes but his guests stayed two hours because they liked him so much.

Which brings us to the [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-revealed-highly-classified-information-to-russian-foreign-minister-and-ambassador/2017/05/15/530c172a-3960-11e7-9e48-c4f199710b69_story.html?utm_term=.ebeceb3a02d7]reports that Trump betrayed[/link] an intelligence source and leaked secrets to his Russian visitors.  He did it because he is sloppy, because he lacks all impulse control, and above all because he is a 7-year-old boy desperate for the approval of those he admires.

The Russian leak story reveals one other thing, the dangerousness of a hollow man.

We badly want to understand Trump, to grasp him, David Roberts [link=https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/5/12/15621140/interpret-trump]writes in Vox[/link]. It might give us some sense of control, or at least an ability to predict what he will do next. But what if theres nothing to understand? What if there is no [i]there[/i] there?

        so true
the sad part with Madoff is that he would have still been going if the crash had not happened
with Trump–I feel the electorate college let us down–would you let an electrician do your open heart bypass–

They voted for the person that won their state.  That’s how it should be.  Trump is in there because people voted for him.

If they can do whatever they wanted John Kasich should be president. Best candidate that ran period. as Spicer would put it.

The Trump supporters rejected him–he never shined during the debates
but Comey has made the drip drip drip into gush gush gush–
Flynn  was a vital asset for Russia–a general on their side–they could probably have retaken Ukraine–so due to the checks and balances of our system I am quite happy that he was taken out quick and I hope the legal system/military dealt him an earth shaking blow

so the Russians say oh it was not classified info–this is such a joke–they see the cracks in their infiltration
and I thought yesterday that the intelligence had to been provided by Israel–Bibi has had visits to Russia–he plays both sides imho

As Issas middle finger so fantastically illustrates, this week is a tough one in the Trump-Congress relationship. It [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/05/16/president-trumps-defenders-on-capitol-hill-are-wavering/]marks the first time[/link] in Trumps still-nascent administration that he has virtually no Republican supporters on Capitol Hill in his latest controversies. A sizable number of Republicans in Congress supported him on his travel bans and his decision to fire Comey (and not immediately fire Flynn).  But on the latest revelations, they just cant find a way to justify their president’s actions.

4 months into the Trump Administration & GOP even talking about removal, “impeachment” by another name. Ross Douthat calls it the “25th Amendment Solution.” Calls support for Trump the equivalent of support “for a syphilitic emperor.”

Read the things that these people, members of his inner circle, his personally selected appointees, say daily through anonymous quotations to the press. (And I assure you they say worse off the record.) They have no respect for him, indeed they seem to palpate with contempt for him, and to regard their mission as equivalent to being stewards for a syphilitic emperor.

It is not squishy New York Times conservatives who regard the president as a child, an intellectual void, a hopeless case, [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/16/us/white-house-staff.html]a threat to national security[/link]; it is people who are [link=http://theresurgent.com/i-know-one-of-the-sources/]self-selected loyalists[/link], who supported him in the campaign, who daily go to work for him. And all this, [i]in the fourth month of his administration.[/i]

[i]Meanwhile, from the perspective of the Republican leaderships duty to their country, and indeed to the world that our imperium bestrides, leaving a man this witless and unmastered in an office with these powers and responsibilities is an act of gross negligence, which no objective on the near-term political horizon seems remotely significant enough to justify.[/i]

What happens if Congress or a special investigator actually requests or subpoenas documents from the Trump Administration in the Russia investigation and are refused?

I you can’t say “YES” to whether you trust Trump’s judgement – the answer is likely, “HELL NO!”

                      [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/republicans-in-congress-struggle-with-this-question-do-you-trust-trumps-judgment/2017/05/24/d9a7cdd0-402a-11e7-9869-bac8b446820a_story.html]https://www.washingtonpos…ac8b446820a_story.html[/link]

Its a simple question, but for Republicans in Congress, its not an easy one.
Do you trust President Trumps judgment on major decisions?

Im not answering questions like that, said Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) after hopping off an underground tram shuttling him from the Capitol to his Senate office building. Thats ah … he trailed off as he walked toward an elevator.

Flake was one of a dozen Republicans from across the ideological spectrum asked this week to reflect on Trumps judgment. Most of them werent eager to address the subject head-on. They diverted and demurred. They paused contemplatively before answering. Some grew visibly uncomfortable. Others declared their conviction in Trump but then qualified their words or expressed confidence in the people around him. Only one of those interviewed Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) offered an unqualified yes regarding Trump himself.

This wavering confidence, and perhaps loyalty, comes after a torrent of controversial decisions by the president and explosive revelations regarding the ongoing investigations into possible coordination between Trump associates and Russia. It also comes amid signs that members of Trumps own administration dont fully trust the presidents decisions.

When Trump revealed highly classified information to two Russian officials in the Oval Office earlier this month, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA and the National Security Agency, [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-revealed-highly-classified-information-to-russian-foreign-minister-and-ambassador/2017/05/15/530c172a-3960-11e7-9e48-c4f199710b69_story.html?utm_term=.ee86adae1b6f]according to a Washington Post report earlier this month.[/link]

And when Trump asked the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election, both refused deeming the appeal inappropriate, according to [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-asked-intelligence-chiefs-to-push-back-against-fbi-collusion-probe-after-comey-revealed-its-existence/2017/05/22/394933bc-3f10-11e7-9869-bac8b446820a_story.html?utm_term=.8b0c8efee710]another Post report this week[/link].

After chewing over the question of whether he trusted Trumps judgment on big domestic and national security decisions as he descended an escalator, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) used this strategy.

He has the responsibility and so therefore, ah, I respect the result of the election. I respect the constitutional authority that he has.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) took a similar approach in a conversation with reporters a few steps from the Senate chamber.

Do you trust the presidents judgment right now on big national security decisions, big domestic policy decisions, in light of all of these revelations? one asked.

Well, hes president of the United States, the second-ranking Republican replied. He won the election and hes entitled to make those decisions. Ah, we need to try to work with him and I am to try to help him be successful.

The question led some GOP lawmakers to fall back on familiar talking points: Hes different. His campaign was different. His presidency is different.
But its starting to sound more like a disavowal and less like a defense.

Is he an unconventional politician? Yes, he is. Thats why people chose him. They didnt want traditional politicians to get elected, said Cornyn, the Senate Republican whip.

He added: So, they got what they voted for.

“They got what they voted for.”

Make of it what you will, whistle past the graveyard, but they are some of the GOP leadership. If the leadership isn’t clearly behind Trump he’s got issues.

Interesting Trump notes I’m seeing.  In talks with Philippines Dueterte he basically said the Dueterte is doing a good job on the drug war, AKA extrajudicial killings.  He also gave him location of 2 US subs which is something that is not ever talked about.  Your WTF of the moment brought to you by DJT.

offended–is there a reason why the Trump woman wore all black to meet the pope–in Israel Melania was in white–like is the Catholic church in mourning to have Trump there–and then at the end Trump tried to power shake the pope–thank goodness that one of the cardinals did that to him as he left

As for white in Saudi perhaps because it was 110 degrees? One of the psychology of white can also symbolize new beginnings, wiping the slate clean. Or perhaps she just happened to like it.

Trump is jealous. He needs to be noticed above all others, why he shoved aside the prime minister of Montenegro, Dusko Markovic so Trump could stand in front to look like a leader in his own eyes. Instead he just looked like an entitled line-cutter.

The man stated violent opposition to circumcision so that alone makes the Bernie support suspect, not to mention his statement, “If Donald Trump is the Next Hitler then I am joining his SS to put an end to Monotheist Question. Trump vs everyone else. The end of American influence. The rise of Russia and China as they fill the leadership void thanks to the Manchurian President.

            [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/02/opinion/donald-trump-poisons-the-world.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2…poisons-the-world.html[/link]

This week, two of Donald Trumps top advisers, H. R. McMaster and Gary Cohn, wrote the [link=https://www.wsj.com/articles/america-first-doesnt-mean-america-alone-1496187426]following passage[/link] in The Wall Street Journal: The president embarked on his first foreign trip with a cleareyed outlook that the world is not a global community but an arena where nations, nongovernmental actors and businesses engage and compete for advantage.

That sentence is the epitome of the Trump project. It asserts that selfishness is the sole driver of human affairs. It grows out of a worldview that life is a competitive struggle for gain. It implies that cooperative communities are hypocritical covers for the selfish jockeying underneath.

The essay explains why the Trump people are suspicious of any cooperative global arrangement, like NATO and the various trade agreements. It helps explain why Trump pulled out of the Paris global-warming accord. This essay explains why Trump gravitates toward leaders like Vladimir Putin, the Saudi princes and various global strongmen: They share his core worldview that life is nakedly a selfish struggle for money and dominance.

The error is that it misunderstands what drives human action. Of course people are driven by selfish motivations for individual status, wealth and power. But they are also motivated by another set of drives for solidarity, love and moral fulfillment that are equally and sometimes more powerful.

People are wired to cooperate. Far from being a flimsy thing, the desire for cooperation is the primary human evolutionary advantage we have over the other animals.

By looking at nothing but immediate material interest, Trump, McMaster and Cohn turn America into a nation that affronts everybody elses moral emotions. They make our country seem disgusting in the eyes of the world.

I wish H. R. McMaster was a better student of Thucydides. Hed know that the Athenians adopted the same amoral tone he embraces: The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must. The Athenians ended up making endless enemies and destroying their own empire.

Trump fails the President Obama test
it has been how many days since tax day but we have no word on whether Trump even filed–u would think this would not be hard since technically he did not work last year but campaign
President Obama for all 8 years released his taxes–that’s character

A good portion of American voters have certainly shown they are fearful kitties since 9-11 and the GOP has shown it self to love manipulating this fear.

Yes, make America Great again, start by growing a spine not made of jello. And cojones. The Brits have shown us how it can be done. But we’re still afraid. Poor, poor dears.

oh and his man Putin could not pull it off on his talk with Fox–he reverted to a conspiracy theory on CIA  with JFK assassination( like gee that parallels Trump’s love for conspiracy theories and Ted Cruz dad)
folks any foreign power would salivate to have an ex-general had of national security in their corner–please this is not hard
Putin’s oh later they told me I was sitting next to a general at that dinner( are you kidding–the Russian intelligence does not just allow their leader to sit next to anybody oh and Jill Stein who cut votes for the left was at the same table–this was a well thought out infiltration and I believe HRC–Americans provided instructions on where to insert)

I believed Trump imho from Comey’s notes was trying to entrap Comey with saying out loud you are loyal–Comey has on tape if Trump was taping as saying–Honest loyalty
with respect to tapes I would think the Presidency would have a system in place because u don’t want people saying false things after meeting with you–I saw recently Nixon saying  I should have kept President Johnson’s system in place and I was like yeah Johnson did have some sort of tape system in place because CNN had on a documentary a tape of Johnson telling this guy he had appointed him to the Warren committee( the guy ???? southern senator was like please Mr. President I don’t want to be on that committee–Johnson’s reply –it has been done, I have made an announcement, u will be on that committee)

All these people making Clinton’s, “It depends on what the meaning of is, is,” defense seem like an amateur’s attempt at misdirection and not answering a direct question. Guess they like their job & feel dirty enough not to explain but not dirty enough to resign or fired by Trump.

Psychiatrists are not talking for a reason. The American Psychiatric Association, the leading professional organization for shrinks, has a longstanding ban on its members commenting on the mental health of public figures, called the Goldwater Rule. The rule not only forbids psychiatrists from diagnosing a public figures behavior without obtaining their consent or personally evaluating them but also forbids any public opining on them at all. Even if to say, Trump doesnt have a mental illness.

So Handel wins GA.  She apparently did a good job as painting Ossof as a Pelosi Democrat.   Some of the analyst I heard this morning on NPR are basically saying how toxic Pelosi is for some of these districts that the Dems want to overturn.  People would take a Trump republican over a Pelosi Democrat.

Further proof it’s time for Nancy to go.  They should’ve voted in Tim Ryan as speaker.

If Jesus was a Democrat & replaced Pelosi, the South & Republicans in general would become ex-Christians & move on to some other religion. Jesus is just too liberal and socialist. And anti-Capitalist, after all, he threw out the money-changers.

Karen is a dull non-inspiring establishment politician who will have the ACA cloaked around her neck fighting for GOP dollars in 2018 for re-election( everyone will be asking the RNC for money)–can she get another 20-mill–a 4 point win is really poor given that Price won by double digits–it took Pence/Price/and that nasty ad about the Bernie supporter shooting up a park to get her with a 4 pint margin win in a seat once held by Newt–not a good outlook if GOP

I’m not so sure I buy that.  Any person who is able to get the support necessary to replace her in Dem leadership is going to be [i]at least[/i] equally liberal, from a safe district (probably on the coast somewhere), and will be quickly branded by the opposition party in a negative fashion.

The key for Democrats is to put up good candidates who run good campaigns and put them into every competitive district in the country.  Then give them lots of $$, lots of infrastructure support, and a winning economic message.

Regarding Pelosi, She’s been successfully demonized by and to those whose primary news sources are FOX and other right-wing outlets so if they said Pelosi engaged in Satanic rituals sacrificing children, these people would believe it and it all probably happens in a pizzeria.

recall how the reporter outed him to Marla and the John Miller comment–all 3 went to a restaurant and per the reporter Donald said nothing but got up and left
recall his Obama -they can not believe what they are finding–the birther lie
-that he saw people cheering and had friends die in 9/11
-the President Obama wire tap lie
-now the Comey wire tap lie
    a serial pattern

One the one hand the libs like to say that Hilary had 3 million more votes than Trump……and then on the other hand they claim that democrats keep losing because democrats need to get out of their EZ chairs and vote. Which is it? If the majority of the country is anti-Trump why do democrats continue to lose elections?

I get it –U need to divert from the tweet tape lie–it just falls into the pattern of the reporter outing John Miller to Marla
Trump’s Mueller is an honorable man comment imho is like a wise guy saying that’s a really nice house u have there

One the one hand the libs like to say that Hilary had 3 million more votes than Trump……and then on the other hand they claim that democrats keep losing because democrats need to get out of their EZ chairs and vote. Which is it? If the majority of the country is anti-Trump why do democrats continue to lose elections?

Sloppy written way of saying the white house issued a press briefing about evidence that Syria might be planning another attack.  They did this release when Mattis was away.  I don’t think they dropped a MOAB in Syria either, that was Afghanistan.  In Syria they launched tomahawks from the naval force.

                Narcissistic Rage:
is a reaction to narcissistic injury, which is a perceived threat to a narcissist’s self-esteem or self-worth. Narcissistic injury (or narcissistic scar) is a phrase used by Sigmund Freud in the 1920s; narcissistic wound and narcissistic blow are further, almost interchangeable terms.

If you’re going to make stuff up, why this?  Everyone at G-20 is talking about Podesta, really?

    Trump Tweet
“Everyone here is talking about why John Podesta refused to give the DNC server to the FBI and the CIA. Disgraceful!”

    [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2017/07/07/trump-claims-everyone-at-g-20-is-talking-about-podestas-role-in-russian-hacking-episode/?utm_term=.a15d8d9ef881]https://www.washingtonpos…utm_term=.a15d8d9ef881[/link]

This was from Adam Schiff Tweet
“Yes, I’m sure that’s the big talk at G20. Not climate change or trade, but why didn’t John Podesta give a server that wasn’t his to the CIA”

I’m sure that was Angela’s 1st question today. And Macron’s. Only Putin didn’t ask because he already knew the answer.

Trump’s supporters don’t care that it makes no sense, it’s just more misdirection about Hillary & the DNC & Podesta.

President Trumps advisers recruited two businessmen who profited from military contracting to devise alternatives to the Pentagons plan to send thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan, reflecting the Trump administrations struggle to define its strategy for dealing with a war now 16 years old.

Erik D. Prince, a [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/15/world/middleeast/blackwaters-legacy-goes-beyond-public-view.html]founder of the private security firm Blackwater Worldwide[/link], and [link=http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/f/stephen_a_feinberg/index.html?inline=nyt-per]Stephen A. Feinberg[/link], a billionaire financier who owns the giant military contractor DynCorp International, have developed proposals to rely on contractors instead of American troops in Afghanistan at the behest of Stephen K. Bannon, Mr. Trumps chief strategist, and Jared Kushner, his senior adviser and son-in-law, according to people briefed on the conversations.

On Saturday morning, Mr. Bannon sought out Defense Secretary [link=http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/m/james_n_mattis/index.html?inline=nyt-per]Jim Mattis[/link] at the Pentagon to try to get a hearing for their ideas, an American official said. Mr. Mattis listened politely but declined to include the outside strategies in a review of Afghanistan policy that he is leading along with the national security adviser, Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster.

The highly unusual meeting dramatizes the divide between Mr. Trumps generals and his political staff over Afghanistan, the lengths to which his aides will go to give their boss more options for dealing with it and the readiness of this White House to turn to business people for help with diplomatic and military problems.

The major political parties used to advance America’s and Americans’ interests above all else. Today, major parties are globalist in nature. They champion commerce over culture, immigrants (even illegal ones!) over Americans, and easy fixes over substantive decisions for the country’s long-term health.

The rhetoric has also declined immeasurably. I can’t think of a single modern political figure who’s given a speech that could hold a candle to the erudition and beauty of those of, for instance, Theodore Rossovelt Jr.

Teddy Roosevelt? He served at the start of the 20th Century, over 100 years ago. And he was of the Progressive Party – AKA “Liberal.” You support a liberal agenda? Teddy was an environmental activist & believed in government regulation of monopolies and capitalism and was pro-consumer protection, supported women’s suffrage and desegregation. And he supported immigration.

if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin

As for speeches, John F. Kennedy,

“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

“In a time of domestic crisis, men of goodwill and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics.”

                      Or Robert F. Kennedy:

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.

                      &

Some men see things as they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not.

                      Or Martin Luther King:

                      And Barack Obama:

We, the People, recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which only asks what’s in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense.

My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a nation of immigrants. We were strangers once, too.

I am an environmentalist. I support government regulation of the market at large. I don’t have a problem with immigration from European countries – the same general stance, btw, as that held by virtually everyone until the disastrous Immigration Act of 1965.

Settlers who came from…? The only indigent Americans were American Indians, AKA Native Americans. Everyone else was an immigrant.

                      Wrong.

They weren’t “Americans” of any sort, because there was no “America” – just untamed wild land with hundreds of tribes warring with each other over land and buffalo.

If I go to the Amazon and set up shop after clearing some brush, I’m a settler – not an immigrant.

                      New Worlders then?

They certainly were immigrants. They came from Denmark & Norway, Spain, Portugal, Britain, Holland, France, Italy and the continent of Africa (although most were brought in chains). Not a native among them.

                      Your ancestors were immigrants.

                      Settler & Immigrant are synonyms.

BTW, a definition of “immigrant” is “an organism in a new habitat.” I think that applies regardless of your explanations.

And “indians” or “Native Americans” or whatever you want to call the indigent people here in the New World had established communities. The land was settled already, when the Europeans or other Old Worlders came.

An immigrant is one who resettles in a new [i]country[/i]. If there’s no extant country, one is not an immigrant.

There are such things as “immigrant” plants and animals. They are not immigrating or even settling in another country.

Yes, but in the human context, it refers to countries.

It’s sad that Leftism has gotten to the point where it has to reach as far as to apply animal/plant word usage to human populations just  to attempt to keep its argument’s head above water.

Why MUST “immigration” be strictly defined as moving to a political country? What needs do you have for that? Immigration has been defined as more than that for quite a long time. What political need do you have and why?

The people crossing the Bering Straight millennia ago are called “immigrants” as well as settlers.

The first is the [i]short chronology theory[/i], that the first migration occurred after the Last Glacial Maximum, which went into decline after about 19,000 years ago,[link=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bering_strait_theory#cite_note-Blaiseetal1990-10][10][/link][/sup] and was then followed by successive waves of [b]immigrants[/b].[link=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bering_strait_theory#cite_note-20][20][/link][/sup] The second theory is the [i]long chronology theory,[/i] which proposes that the first group of people entered the Americas at a much earlier date, possibly 21,00040,000 years ago,[link=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bering_strait_theory#cite_note-Bonattoetal2009-21][21][/link][/sup][link=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bering_strait_theory#cite_note-Cinq1979-22][22][/link][/sup][link=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bering_strait_theory#cite_note-Bonnichsen1978-23][23][/link][/sup] followed by a much later second wave of [b]immigrants[/b]

This timeline for ancestral Native Americans departure adds to a growing body of evidence that humans colonized the Americas earlier than previously thought. In the past, archaeological evidence seemed to indicate that people arrived roughly 13,000 years ago, bringing the so-called Clovis cultureknown for its signature spear points and associated with various sites in North Americawith them. Recent discoveries together with genetic research have made the case for an earlier wave of [b]immigrants[/b], Schurr said.
