so will private prison contractors become the new suppliers for family detention suppliers that separate mothers from their kids-making both groups prey for trafficking–like Japanese camps in WW2

Bring on investigation. Special Prosecutor probably needed as questions about integrity of Administration & Congress & FBI.

I happened to overhear someone listening to a YouTube video from a priest who was talking about how Donald was sent by God to sort of bring back the flock in America so to speak.

Apparently there are people out there who think Donald was sent by God. Despite any evidence that he’s anything but a douche bag. I googled it out of curiosity. There’s are some alt-news places. “Doctor” Lance Wallnau.

Lore has it that there are more 4 leave clovers in Ireland then elsewhere and some say this is the source of the phrase “Luck of the Irish”, but of course you find it more self aggrandizing to just assume your position is correct—not sure why you want to discriminate against 4-leaves you need to be more open and accepting. Yes, the Shamrock is 3 leaved (hence St Pats trinity analogy-oh maybe I do know my history)  but the clover can be 4 leaved and those with 4 leaves are associated with luck and also with Ireland.

Maybe we should have a thread about clover.  Anyhow besides the Shamrock shake, masterful Guinness pours also use a Shamrock in the head of the beer.  ’nuff said.

Trump sent a Tweet about being nice to his people.  Kelly Conway getting beat up now after making small talk about microwaves in Trump tower being used to monitor the campaign.  The KAC pivot move isn’t bailing her out anymore.

“If Conway didn’t realize that talking about surveillance through TVs and microwaves in the context of Trump Tower might be problematic when it comes to focusing on Trump’s agenda, she should have. The liar in chief exposed with the Obama tweet and Kelly Anne has lost cred–especial after the picture of her on her knees about to have a party with a group of Black males after a super bowel event
she crawled out from the swamp this last weekend-media ho ho ho

Trump sent a Tweet about being nice to his people.  Kelly Conway getting beat up now after making small talk about microwaves in Trump tower being used to monitor the campaign.  The KAC pivot move isn’t bailing her out anymore.

“If Conway didn’t realize that talking about surveillance through TVs and microwaves in the context of Trump Tower might be problematic when it comes to focusing on Trump’s agenda, she should have. And if she did mean to inject these things into the conversation again, without any proof that they were actually used that’s a pretty cynical move.”

There’s a bit of that in partisan politics but I also think that some people hold a distinction between being a bad husband, jerk, sub-par in some department etc versus the job they perform…if Trump somehow had a successful presidency, a lot of people would forgive/minimize his many personal shortcomings…

See you in court said DJT. Seems like Trump flapping his mouth about banning muslims has inevitably caused him issues. Maybe he can learn something from this experience.

judge, Derrick K. Watson of Federal District Court in Honolulu, wrote that a reasonable, objective observer would view even the new order as issued with a purpose to disfavor a particular religion, in spite of its stated, religiously neutral purpose.

another failed press conference–this time with German Prime Minister–sad–maybe he felt haunted by HRC but still quite bad
I don’ t know if anyone caught this but I caught the event at the beginning when Ivanka and Jared were first let in and they were given initially second row seats but then they changed to where Ivanka was given front row but at the very end seat–I notice Trump would look in that direction during the conference and after the second German reporter wire tap question Trump looked over and the press conference quickly ended–my guess Ivanka signaled it is going down hill /cut it short

he has good insights but I think he needs to research that the tax form sent to him probably was the same tax form that got put in the public when Donald sued someone for questioning his wealth–a suit that went nowhere because Trump could never prove he was a billionaire to the courts satisfaction
–one thing that needs to be explored is that on MsNBC -the tax form that got published was the year that Trump married Melania and in order for her to meet US citizenship qualification she would have to produce tax info to boost her ==it was a joint filing that listed them both and maybe she only had to produce the 2 sheets

Fareed has been using the term “bullsh*tter” in reference to Trump since the Summer of 2016.       It is a perfectly apt term.

His kids follow suit.  Ivanka wasn’t going to have a White house job, just moving to DC.  Now she’s getting a West Wing office and she’ll voluntarily follow the ethics rules.  Kind of makes me think on a certain level she thinks she’s above the ethics rules.

theyre not saying shes going to voluntarily subject herself to ethics rules to be nice. Theres recognition that theyre in very uncertain territory here. The better thing to do would be to concede she is subject to the rules. It would create some outside accountability, because if she can voluntarily subject herself to the rules, she can voluntarily un-subject herself to the rules.

Chief Propagandist Steve Bannon kind of demoted off of National Security Council post at Gen McMaster’s request. McMaster worried Mr Breitbart was politicizing foreign policy, something of an oxymoronic idea in today’s world. Guess it was too obvious having Bannon on NSC while claiming foreign policy was above politics.

I feel the white house is building a defense against a Flynn flip–Bannon was there to watch Flynn–not that Trump’s supporter National Enquirer had run a front page story that Trump found the Russian spy–it was Flynn

Susan Rice, like Trump, is a public figure.   She has no potential for a defamation claim.

                      _____

But we have to follow the bouncing ball.

First Trump said he was wiretapped  by Obama’s agencies– Then Comey and the Intel heads destroyed that claim.

So then it was the Brits that did it — And that claim got shot down.

So then it’s on to a different topic, but one similar to sound the same to the Trump supporter and to be spun that way by Fox, … that it was incidental collection and unmasking.    –Despite the fact that request for unmasking would be part of Rice’s routine daily duties, the claim has once a shifted.   Susan Rice is a favorite villain for the Right, so she makes a perfect attack point, despite no evidence.  (See also: Benghazi)

If Susan RIce leaked then fine … go after her.  But there’s no evidence she did… just like there’s no evidence for the first two Trump versions of the wiretap claims.

      -Peace Out

The Constitution’s language was deliberately kept general and therefore vague the Founders recognizing that writing literally for every occasion was an impossible goal and achievement, so their language is general. The fact that the Founders themselves argued over points of language and meaning and interpretation proves the point. As does decades of SCOTUS interpretations and opinions. The 9th Amendment itself proves the point as the arguments for and against argue the impossibility of a literal Constitution that covered every contingency, present then in the past as well as for the future.

The argument of a literal Constitution makes as much sense as a “literal” Bible. Originalism is still-born except in the minds of fantasists.

I wanted to better understand President Trumps America, a place where truth is being ripped from its moorings as he brands those tasked with lashing it back into place journalists as dishonest enemies of the people.
                So I went to Russia.

It was like a visit to the land of Alternative Truth Yet to Come. But it also gave me a glimpse into how our new national look is playing in the global information war, where competing narratives are clashing along a sliding scale of fact and fiction.

As soon as I turned on a television here I wondered if I had arrived through an alt-right wormhole.

Back in the States, the prevailing notion in the news was that Mr. Assad had indeed been responsible for the chemical strike. There was [link=https://www.infowars.com/false-flag-attack-started-syriaus-conflict-alex-jones-reports/]some reportage[/link] from sources like the conspiracy theorist and radio host Alex Jones best known for suggesting that the Sandy Hook school massacre [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_NQYKzBvPQ]was staged[/link]  that the chemical attack was a false flag operation by terrorist rebel groups to goad the United States into attacking Mr. Assad. But that was a view from the fringe.

On the popular Russian television program Vesti Nedeli, the host, Dmitry Kiselyov, questioned how Syria could have been responsible for the attack. After all, he said, the Assad government had destroyed all of its chemical weapons. It was the [i]terrorists [/i]who possessed them, said Mr. Kiselyov,

When Trump administration officials tried to counter Russias [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/11/world/middleeast/russia-syria-chemical-weapons-white-house.html]f[/link][link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/11/world/middleeast/russia-syria-chemical-weapons-white-house.html]alse n[/link][link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/11/world/middleeast/russia-syria-chemical-weapons-white-house.html]arratives[/link] by releasing to reporters a declassified report detailing Syrias chemical weapons stockpiles and suggesting to The Associated Press without proof that [link=http://bigstory.ap.org/article/19772be1238e49fbb62c509a5b659b3d/official-us-military-takes-extra-precautions-syria]Russia knew of Mr. Assads plans[/link] to use chemical weapons in advance the Russians had a ready answer borrowed from Mr. Trump himself.

As the pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia put it, Apparently it was for good reason [link=http://www.nytimes.com/topic/person/donald-trump?inline=nyt-per]Donald Trump[/link] called unverified information in the mass media one of the main problems in the U.S.

It was the best evidence Ive seen of the folly of Mr. Trumps anti-press approach. You cant spend more than a year attacking the credibility of the dishonest media and then expect to use its journalism as support for your position during an international crisis at least not with any success.

While Mr. Trump and his supporters may think that undermining the news media serves their larger interests, in this great information war it serves Mr. Putins interests more. It means playing on his turf, where he excels.

Clinton RAISED taxes while Bush lowered taxes. Republicans predicted that Clinton’s economy would fail miserably while Bush’s would flourish. The exact opposite happened. So if you take what Republicans predict about an economy & do the 180 degree opposite you will make out well.

So we have Reagan’s tax cuts and Bush’s tax cuts not improving the economy while we have Clinton’s and Obama’s tax increases and the economy improves, what do the results say about tax cuts and an economy you want to stimulate into growth?

I’m more curious about how the 15% changes the current system. Like I mentioned GE but the have the army of lawyers and accountants who make sure the effective tax rate is low. So we might have a 30% corporate rate now. It what’s the diff if major companies can get it down to single digits anyway.

Whether GE pays 15% is unimportant, it’s the promise of tax cuts generating growth that’s bunk. Mnuchin argues that we will see economic growth jumps from 1.8% to 3% and up while also arguing that depends on measuring the growth using static scoring or dynamic scoring. All of which is called BS by all economists including Douglas Holtz-Eakin.

Proposing trillions of dollars in tax cuts and then casually asserting that such a plan would [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/04/20/trumps-treasury-secretary-the-tax-cut-will-pay-for-itself/?utm_term=.2a0b5326dd2a]pay for itself with growth[/link], as Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said, is detached from empirical reality.

No one accepts the argument that economic growth will more than cover any tax cuts. It was called “Voodoo Economics” then and it still is. So watch the deficit explode.

And looks like The Wall isn’t happening. Tough luck, Trump supporters.

In the current environment we already have businesses that are making money hand over fist.  So I’m skeptical about the whole growth thing too.  Cutting tax isn’t a reason to create jobs.  I also think the whole small business jobs thing is bunk.  Like if you cut regulations and taxes all sudden every 5th household is going to franchise a subway and hire people.

I guess what I’m asking is it better to collect 15% with no loopholes from all businesses.  Or stay at 30% while leaving in place all the mechanisms for a large company to get down to paying little to no tax at all.

                      As for tax proposals”

                      [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/26/opinion/trumps-laughable-plan-to-cut-his-own-taxes.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2…cut-his-own-taxes.html[/link]

The proposal was so empty of illustrative detail that few people could even begin to calculate its impact on their pocketbooks. Further, depending on where they live, some middle-class families might not benefit much or at all, because the plan does away with important deductions like those for state and local taxes.
As to the rationale offered up by Mr. Mnuchin and Mr. Cohn, even many conservative economists believe that the argument that tax cuts will pay for themselves, by increasing investment and creating jobs, is the same supply-side fantasy that has repeatedly been proved wrong. This durable nonsense would instead add mightily to a federal debt that Americans will be paying off for generations to come.

Here again, the long-term consequences were hard to figure, because Mr. Cohn and Mr. Mnuchin offered no estimates of the plans costs; guesswork by some analysts put the figure in the same ballpark as the tax plan Mr. Trump offered [link=http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/analysis-donald-trumps-revised-tax-plan]during the campaign[/link], or about $7 trillion in additional debt over the first 10 years and nearly $21 trillion by 2036.

Business is not suffering due to high taxes.

Mr. Trumps plan aims to cut corporate tax rates from 35 percent to 15 percent. To hear the administration tell it, the present rate is choking investment and killing jobs. In fact, big businesses are earning record profits, and many of them pay [link=https://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-16-363]no federal taxes[/link]. The corporate income tax brought in just 10.6 percent of the federal governments revenue in 2015, down from between a quarter and a third of revenue in the 1950s, according to the [link=http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/04/13/high-income-americans-pay-most-income-taxes-but-enough-to-be-fair/]Pew Research Center[/link]. A better approach, as part of broad-based reform, would be to eliminate loopholes that have encouraged businesses to avoid their fair share of taxes.

The tax plan seems geared to improve Trump’s bottom line at everyone else’s expense save for the upper 1-3%, but definitely not for the other 97%.

Mr. Trump would also apply that 15 percent tax rate to pass-through income that business owners get from limited liability companies, a change that would directly benefit real estate developers like him. This would also create a huge incentive for wealthy Americans to turn their earnings into pass-through income in order to avoid paying higher personal income tax rates. This is no idle threat. Many Kansas residents, including the [link=http://kcur.org/post/thanks-tax-cuts-bill-self-highest-paid-state-employee-owes-little-kansas-income-taxes#stream/0]mens basketball coach of the University of Kansas[/link], have sheltered income in L.L.C.s since that state exempted income generated through such legal structures from its income tax in 2012.

Worldwide, average corporate taxes are less than ours but as GE proves, we have many deductions and loopholes that allow 0 taxes to be paid, and in the case of GE I believe the government even credited them.

I want to pick up one of the David Cay Johnston books.  I’ve heard him speak on taxes and I think many times it’s even worse than paying no tax.  He cites instances of Walmart actually getting to keep sales tax.  Or like Cabelas getting paid to open a store.  Maybe I’ll hit the Amazon and pick up a paperback.

I had heard about this Kushner story on the way in today.  This sounds like some shady BS.  Promising Chinese investors visas for investments in Kushner real estate.  Even if you give Jared the benefit of the doubt, it sure looks like they’re trying to profit from his status as adviser to POTUS.  Doesn’t matter if they’re sorry or not.
