Speaking as someone who voted for neither Hillary or Trump, I have to say that I’m impressed by how he’s been able to stir up the pot in only 1 week.

Canceling TPP, putting Mexico on their heels and setting up the table to renegotiate NAFTA… Keep this up, and he’ll get my vote for 2020.

It’s a large volume trade nation but it’s mostly one way, that would be Mexican goods flowing into the US.  Probably a large part to do with NAFTA because it became cheap to do manufacturing in Mexico.  According to the chart those are the largest deficits, auto/parts.

I don’t get the concept of sanctuary cities, mayors can decide that they want to chose not to enforce federal laws? What exactly is their rationale? Why don’t they just lobby to change the laws?

There is some rationale. You don’t want victims of crime or witnesses afraid of talking to the police because they fear getting deported after an innocent police contact. So it does make sense for a police department not to check on immigration status for witnesses or victims. But that is not what most of the ‘sanctuary’ thing is about. For some reason those mayors and city councils find it appropriate to protect criminals who have final orders of removal by refusing to hold them on federal detainers.

Be curious to know. So far I’ve heard 1 name, Steinle, allegedly shot by an illegal immigrant who was deported 5 times. Not protected 5 times but deported 5 times.

I am not aware of thousands upon thousands of dangerous criminals let free in order to prevent their deportation for being dangerous criminals. Or protected by law enforcement officials in so-called “sanctuary cities’ in order to foil the Federal law agents and ICE.

Blame where blame is due. If the feds are unwilling to take someone for deportation that is one thing, but if violent felons with final orders are sprung to make some sort of political point, it is criminal.

That’s the quandary.  “If the feds are unwilling to take someone for deportation that is one thing”.  You might not be a sanctuary but what if the government doesn’t want to do it’s job and deport the illegal.  I don’t know why the locals stopped the guy but I’d bet he had no insurance or driver’s license.  Then the feds didn’t boot him.

I’m still wondering what violent felons are being sprung in order to protect them from Federal deportation. Obama after all was known as the Deportation President, having deported more people than his predecessors.

The agents on the ground do what their chain of command tells them to do. With the new admin, there is hope that going forward the feds do their job and proceed with removal proceedings.

You mean the police checking status on all contacts? No, it doesn’t happen. It only happens if someone gets arrested and prior to getting released on bond or their own recognizance.

The collectivists think that immigrants are too dumb to understand the difference between talking to the police as a victim and as a perpetrator. So they promote this lie that this is done to make it easier for the police to investigate crime and to protect immigrants from their countrymen who exploit their fear of the police. Just part of the overall concept that all the minorities need protection and that there is only one force that can provide that protection, the all loving democratic party.

Hope indicates a forward facing statement, not a fact. Your argument is invalid.

The two past administration’s (obama and bush2) had a catch&release policy for illegals. Even those with final orders for removal were let go and told to report at some point in the future for deportation. Only a selected few who were in removal due to violent crimes were sometimes kept in custody and actually expelled.

Well unfortunately everyone arrested is entitled to their day in court, even non-citizens. A major inconvenience for people like you.

Courts are backed up with months of delays. In order to provide Constitutional rights they either have to be held in jails for over 1 year waiting just to see a judge or maybe Congress has to fund courts & hire personnel for a change. And computer systems. In 2014 computer system crashed for weeks forcing everyone back to paperwork and pencils for instance.

Only 11 million to deport. Should be easy, if only the Constitution didn’t get in the way.

Actually, folks with final orders of removal had their day in court. Often several of them. A friend of mine is a staff lawyer with the board of immigration appeals (EOIR/BIA) who deals with all of that.

Courts are backed up with months of delays. In order to provide Constitutional rights they either have to be held in jails for over 1 year waiting just to see a judge or maybe Congress has to fund courts

Make that years of delays in the immigration courts.
Yes, we should fund those courts and the EOIR/BIA properly. As it is mostly clogged with mexican nationals, maybe we should levy a tax on mexican imports to pay for it. I think 20% should do for starters.

This is one of those things that feels PC policed.  I don’t write the statements and speeches.  It’s hard to see him as anti-Semitic if he wants to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.  That’d make him a rock star in the book of Bibi.

the executive order was poorly vetted and showed disaster leadership with respect to the flip flop on green card holders over the weekend
but to the supporters of Matthis–what did he know while standing there and watching Trump–why is he called mad dog–WWW 3 is upon us
calling left wing hysteria will not hold up when Trump sends troops to get that oil( his supporters–oh he does not mean that–wait to when the draft is re-enacted by the draft dodger)

You posted info that was not true. It does not mention Christians. You embellished its contents just like some media and the left leaning actors looking foolish carrying on the other night. The result a low rating for the award show.

Mentioning Jews in the Holocaust is PC?

The Wannsee Conference was not about how to exterminate Gypsies and homosexuals and Communists and all the Party considered undesirables, the Final Solution was strictly about Jews. It was about the “Jewish Question.” Note the word, “Jewish” (Judenfrage)

That is a fact, not a politically correct position. Unless you can point to some facts showing the conference was not strictly about Jews.

    [link=http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/holocaust/h-wannsee.htm]http://www.historyplace.c…olocaust/h-wannsee.htm[/link]

On January, 20, 1942, Reinhard Heydrich, Himmler’s second in command of the SS, convened the Wannsee Conference in Berlin with 15 top Nazi bureaucrats to coordinate the Final Solution (Endlösung) in which the Nazis would attempt to exterminate the entire Jewish population of Europe, an estimated 11 million persons.

“Europe would be combed of Jews from east to west,” Heydrich stated.

“Instead of emigration, there is now a further possible solution to which the Führer has already signified his consent – namely deportation to the east,” Heydrich stated for example when referring to mass deportations of Jews to ghettos in occupied Poland and then on to the soon-opened death camps at Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka.

“…eliminated by natural causes,” refers to death by a combination of hard labor and starvation.

“…treated accordingly,” refers to execution by SS firing squads or death by gassing – also seen in other Nazi correspondence in a variety of connotations such as “special treatment” and “special actions” regarding the Jews.

    [link=https://www.britannica.com/event/Wannsee-Conference]https://www.britannica.co.event/Wannsee-Conference[/link]

Wannsee Conference, meeting of Nazi officials on January 20, 1942, in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to plan the final solution (Endlösung) to the so-called Jewish question (Judenfrage). On July 31, 1941, Nazi leader Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring had issued orders to Reinhard Heydrich, SS (Nazi paramilitary corps) leader and Gestapo (Secret Police) chief, to prepare a comprehensive plan for this final solution. The Wannsee Conference, held six months later, was attended by 15 Nazi senior bureaucrats led by Heydrich and including Adolf Eichmann, chief of Jewish affairs for the Reich Central Security Office.

It is right?  Not saying it seems like an attempt to be PC.  It feels like there’s an attempt to make something a problem that shouldn’t be.  They didn’t say Jews and that was not PC to some people.

I think the best way to remember the holocaust is not letting it happen again.  Yet still things have happened like Rwanda, Bosnia, there’s Syrians getting killed in droves.  I was still in high school when something like Rwanda was going but it’s crazy to me that no countries did more.

Acting AG tells a Justice not to enforce ban as it isn’t lawful.

Maybe symbolic & temporary but is a good direct public stand against a bad decision.

              “You’re fired!” Says Trump.

But the point was already made. Cheers for the AG.

Yates knows the law–Trump does not –by including a preference for Christians the ban became a religious ban–simple-it was against the law
but orange Hitler fires a qualified female AG that he had asked to stay on is a line in the sand–it’s is Nixon without class
the p grabber put out a poorly vetted plan and dumps on a qualified female AG–she should sue for wrongful termination

“Hold all politicians accountable, regardless of Party,” they said.

        BS

It’s an appointed position serving at the pleasure of the president. If she rose to the acting AG position from a career job at DOJ she falls back to that civil service position.

Where do you come up this? The ban was vetted through the compliance office at the DOJ. She made a political decision not to enforce it. Even left wing attorney Alan Dershowitcz in an interview on the Clinton News Network said “Sally Yates is a terrific public servant, but I think she’s made a serious mistake here.” He also never called the ban unconstitutional. She was insubordinate and refused to carry out a lawful order.
Could Trump have rolled it out and planned it better. Absolutely.  It was a mess the way he did it.

Dershowitz also criticized Trump’s ban as “badly executed” and “inconsistent with American values.”

The issue of resigning or do it & then object or outright refusing is a personal decision each with compromises. Enforcing the ban & objecting later was a non-starter. So she could have loudly resigned boldly stating the law was offensive at best & unlawful in her opinion as she already stated, same result pretty all the way around. 6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of the other.

I think she made the right decision. She didn’t go down quietly.

Maybe McConnell’s argument should be turned around on him the next 4 years since Trump actually lost the popular vote by a large margin. After all, McConnell says let the voters decide, not the Electoral College. By that argument Trump lost.

If that happens eventually the Republicans will use the nuclear option but the GOP cheer leaders will still blame Reid. Yet as I recall, McConnell also swore that no candidate would be acceptable anyway should Hillary have won, something the cheerleaders forget.

Both sides are idiots over the SCOTUS nominee. Garland should have gone through the process. McConnell speaking on the Senate floor warned Reid when he changed the rules it would come back to bite him. Reid changed the rules and now it is going to bite the dems.

It sounds as if the nominee has some Dem support.  This is one of the ways the government is really fluffing silly and they wonder why they’re overwhelmingly unpopular.  President nominates someone that person should be questioned, listened to, and get a vote.  There should be no party parliamentary process shenanigans.

Dems are terrible politicians, who cares what people said last year. GOP stole a SCOTUS seat, they should be screaming about it and absolutely filibuster. Voters have clearly demonstrated they don’t give a **** about obstructionism, as evidenced by them handsomely rewarding the GOP despite their historic obtructionism. Make them kill the filibuster once and for all.

OK.  So WTF does it mean when the head of the NSA put’s out a memo to that says “Iran has been put on notice”?  Now Iran is a bad actor and I did read the thing about bombing the Frigate, the belief was that they actually intended to suicide bomb a US Naval ship.  Plus they’ve launched a ballistic missile.  Are the armed forces bigly enough that we should now go fight Iran?

that was shady but doesn’t bother me too much, essentially let the American people decide through POTUS choice, more importantly, ideologic balance in SCOTUS doesn’t change…next pick will be “huge”…

Both sides are idiots over the SCOTUS nominee. Garland should have gone through the process. McConnell speaking on the Senate floor warned Reid when he changed the rules it would come back to bite him. Reid changed the rules and now it is going to bite the dems.

That was stupid. They should have given him an up/down vote and voted him down like god intended.

the nuclear option would backfire in the end
I can see headlines stolen election Bush vs Gore–stolen Comey/russia/Trump election and now stolen SC( 3 strikes that dog don’t bounce)

    Quote from MISTRAD

You can thank Harry Reid for this one…if Dems block Gorsuch (who is eminently qualified) GOP will pull the nuclear option.

And yes, I know the GOP was unfair to Garland. Both sides are idiots…but the idiots with more power will win.

Christie was on the 11 th hour with Brian Williams last night and said Trump was not well served  by his staff with the immigration roll out which imho was far worst than the ACA roll out–airlines have had to give out refunds and not knowing the specifics on green card holders
Spicer -u will recall that I said he was bad for the job when I saw his weekend preview on FOX–after the hissy fit –he is done–he has no credibility—he allowed his colleagues to see one of the worst acts of unprofessionalism and he continues to fail–he is done
Omarosa – has been with Trump from the beginning has not served the President well-she should have rehearsed with him what Black historic leaders would be discussed –provided dossiers-and could have made Trump look hip by mentioning the new coin–instead he looked ignorant and maybe demented–as Christie said –a President is not to have to deal with things his staff should be doing but his staff are ignorant and have no clue on how Washington works–so it will get worse

Iran is linked up with Russia though.  They work together in Syria, and Trump has seemingly praised Russian action in Syria.  The whole middle easy is a cluster f with muslim infighting and being proxy wars of Iran/Saudis/US backing various groups. POTUS should have really worked through this with DOD and National Security before making the statement.

You had on a nice rain coat. Your iPhone was a 6 Plus. You could have been a fellow parent in one of my daughters schools. You seemed, well, normal. But you had these feelings in you, and, the reality is, so do a lot of people in this country right now.

But, afterward, my 7-year-old, who witnessed the whole thing, kept asking my wife, Why did she say, Go back to China? Were not from China.
No, were not, my wife said, and she tried to explain why you might have said that and why people shouldnt judge others.
Were from America, she told my daughter. But sometimes people dont understand that.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is tiring of Trump’s jabs about The Apprentice, offering to switch jobs.

Hey Donald, I have a great idea why dont we switch jobs? said Mr. Schwarzenegger, his face filling the screen. You take over TV, because youre such an expert in ratings, and I take over your job.

And then people can finally sleep comfortably again, Mr. Schwarzenegger added, with an impish grin.

I’ll take a sane Schwarzenegger any day over Trump. The world is insane enough without Trump throwing gasoline on it.

Hapless UC Berkeley administration and police department allow black-block anarchists to disrupt an event organized by college republicans:

The university had charged the college republicans a ‘free speech fee’ of $7,000 to allow the talk yet failed miserably at ensuring the safety of the event.

As usual, there was a larger crowd of protesters who made their discontent with the speaker known via peaceful means. The violence was perpetrated by a group of professional rioters who had been bused in. This is in all likelihood the same cast of characters that caused the violence on inauguration day. It was up to the UC Berkeley police department to ensure the safety of the attendees and the peaceful protesters. If they don’t have the manpower to deal with the black-block professional rioters, they need to call in city of Berkeley and Alameda county before the event, not after things have gone out of control. This is the same politically motivated holding back that gave the rioters in Baltimore ‘room to destroy’ in 2015.

Good question. As the UC Berkeley police didn’t bother to arrest them, there is no way to identify and to follow the money back to the people who are paying for this.

The movement even claims to be finding adherents far afield of major population centers. A participant in CrimethInc, a decades-old anarchist network, pointed to rising attendance at its meetings and activity cropping up in new places like Omaha.

The Left ignores us. The Right demonizes us, the anarchist website Its Going Down boasted on Twitter. Everyday we grow stronger.

Little known to practitioners of mainstream American politics, militant anti-fascists make up a secretive culture closely associated with anarchists. Both reject social hierarchies as undemocratic and eschew the political parties as hopelessly corrupt, according to interviews with a dozen anarchists around the country. While some anarchists espouse nonviolence, others view property damage and even physical attacks on the far right as important tactics.

While extreme right-wing groups have been enthusiastic supporters of Mr. Trump, anti-fascists express deep disdain for the Democratic Party. And it is mutual, by and large: They amount to the lefts unwanted revolutionary stepchild, disowned for their tactics and ideology by all but the most radical politicians.

American exceptionalism, dying on the vine by authoritarian beliefs. Looking for the Father Leader to take care of us against the enemies whom we now fear and once didn’t.

        [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/03/opinion/a-return-to-national-greatness.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2…ational-greatness.html[/link]

The Library of Congresss main building is one of the most magnificent buildings in Washington, or in the country. It was built in a pivotal, tumultuous time. During the 23 years in the late 19th century that it took to design and build the structure, industrialization transformed America. More people immigrated to America than in the previous 250 years combined.

The building articulates the central animating idea that held this bursting, turbulent country together. That idea is best encapsulated in the mural under the dome of the main reading room. A series of monumental figures are depicted, each representing a great civilization in human history and what that civilization contributed to the human story.

In that story, America is placed at the vanguard of the great human march of progress. America is the grateful inheritor of other peoples gifts. It has a spiritual connection to all people in all places, but also an exceptional role. America culminates history. It advances a way of life and a democratic model that will provide people everywhere with dignity. The things Americans do are not for themselves only, but for all mankind.

This historical story was Americas true myth.

But now the myth has been battered.

And so along come men like Donald Trump and Stephen Bannon with a countermyth. Their myth is an alien myth, frankly a Russian myth. It holds, as Russian reactionaries hold, that deep in the heartland are the pure folk who embody the pure soul of the country who endure the suffering and make the bread. But the pure peasant soul is threatened. It is threatened by the cosmopolitan elites and by the corruption of foreign influence.

The true American myth is dynamic and universal embracing strangers and seizing possibilities. The Russian myth that Trump and Bannon have injected into the national bloodstream is static and insular. It is about building walls, staying put. Their country is bound by its nostalgia, not its common future.

Burn baby… Burn. The old 60’s and 70’s line for rioting. Except those Riots had some purpose with true individual rights. The neighborhoods and Campuses of White Left Elitists are being desecrated with no support to cease the carnage by the local law enforcement. How honored the bay area must feel right now to know they are behind the cause.  But don’t worry, they have a sanctuary city they can run to across the bridge if needing to hide. But who’s going to care… and why should they worry? Berkeley offers law academia and no doubt will use this for future enrollment Marketing.
And Guess who’s going to pay for the repair? The conglomerate Insurance company, not the Perps.

As useful as “Drill, baby drill.”

Why would you think anyone would be proud to see their neighborhood burned and vandalized? Or are you just happy yourself to see the neighborhoods of “Campuses of White Left Elitists” being vandalized because it feels good to you while you can simultaneously condemn the vandals?

Only the vandals believe in their purpose of destruction, no one else does.

Except: Drill baby… Drill… puts food on the table for the middle class, increases your 401k, allows Gore to purchase his Jet Fuel cheaper and allows the Middle class put their kids through schools like Berkeley to be indoctrinated . Far reaching attempt to compare Burn to Drill, not even close. I do feel it’s tit for tat and it’s laughable to see how those protesters decided to think of only themselves and not the community around them. Typical “Me First, My Feelings” and “So what” about the rest of you agenda. I’m I pleased, to see the retrograde back to a community no… they’re a**holes. Am I surprised? No, it was bound to come back based on the lack of condemnation by the Media, Local Government and School Officials. There is limited news worthy of the damage and meanness to the Riot. Only, the reasoning of why they had to do it and it’s just cause. No arrests… nothing.

If my Dad was alive, they’d all get the belt and no dinner then the next day, go back out, apologize, and clean up their mess.

Your problem is your own worldview of resentment & blaming the wrong others. You have a hard-on for Gore, fine, but it’s not based in reality, only resentment. The reason for renewables is for the simple fact of not sh1tting in our own nests. And fossil fuels haven’t run out yet but they won’t last forever.

As for the violent protesters, they are alone, no one supports them except in your right-wing Fox-fed angry imagination.

Funny article, Steve Bannon is reading “The Best And The Brightest,” by David Halberstam in order to help avoid early missteps in the Administration.

He does have a sense of humor.

Note, “The Donald” is not know to be reading anything except his own twits and re-twits.

      [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/04/opinion/sunday/steve-bannons-book-club.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2…bannons-book-club.html[/link]

I asked if he was indeed reading The Best and the Brightest.

      Oh, yes, he said.

He seemed surprised that I was surprised, although really I was stunned at the situations surreal appropriateness. If a novelist were imagining the Trump presidency, this book, a case study in what can go wrong from the outset of an administration ushered in by a change election in uncertain times, is precisely what Mr. Bannon would be reading.

Im having everyone in the transition read it, Mr. Bannon continued, later clarifying that everyone meant several people.

Its great, he said of the book, for seeing how little mistakes early on can lead to big ones later.

In this light, Mr. Bannon seems less a repudiation than a reincarnation of the tragic protagonists of The Best and the Brightest.

Even many Super Bowl commercials were smacking Trump in the face about American diversity. And the commercial by 84 Lumber really did showing a mom & daughter.

Trump is President for only a minority of us, the majority of whom still believe in America.

            Multiculturalism has failed.

I’m not sure what world you guys are living in. The evidence is clear.

Identity politics is a marxist innovation that was also tried and implemented last century with murderous results and unfathomed deaths. Yet you are trying to implement the same ideas and policies.

And you call it “believing in America”

We literally just had these same things happen last century and you guys are proposing them again. Read about Stalin. Read Solzhenitsyn, read about Mao

The ignorance is astounding and it will end in even more chaos and death because it always does when the delusional persist.

My joke has been for a long time that the end of Trumps anti-immigration crusade is going to be when the drywall manufacturers get on his case. Without mexican workers skilled and willing to hang drywall, they’ll go out of business.

I recall the very same argument being made about Italian tradesmen.

A skill is a skill & people want to make a living that’s why we or our ancestors came here leaving the old country behind. That was the final statement in the commercial, people who want to do things want to come here.

BTW, in reference to an earlier complaint about Snowflake Millennials, my friend’s son was referred to jobs as a plumber apprentice. He likes it. And the pay.

SNL is going to have tons a material the next 4 years. They hardly have to write it, the Trump Administration does it for them.

Yup. I’ve heard the other Baldwin is going to be playing Eric Trump soon. Just saw a funny picture floating around twitter. It’s hypocrite in chief Donald Trump. A collage of all his tweets criticizing Obama playing golf. He’s played golf 2 weeks in a row and 2 out of 4 weeks of his presidency.

Here is another most excellent clip. Andrew Miller splitting 8s and doubling down on claims of voter fraud. Simply getting shut down by stephanopolous by saying produce the evidence. Is there anyone at the Whitehouse Willing to not be a total idiot on TV?

Add to the criticism of Obama’s vacation costs. I seem to recall it being pretty heated.

Now how much is the taxpayer footing for Trump’s residences and childrens’ trips & junkets?

How much did we pay for Nancy Peloso’s travel on an Air Force jet to home to Cali? In one two year period she cost us $101,000.00 and that was just for her booze.

So now it’s Pelosi? What’s next, a rehash of Gore’s electrical and airline bills?

I’m not the one getting my panties in a knot about vacations & travel costs by Democratic politicians, Republicans are. If u want stringent rules, fine, just apply rules across the board to everyone regardless of party.

The travel etc…should all deserve scrutiny.  It’s low hanging fruit in a time when we should be looking to save $.  Republicans claim to want to reign in spending, well

Jumped the shark? The National Endowment for the Arts? Doesn’t even reach the level of apples and oranges. What’s next, the cost of haircuts for the Trump family vs Medicare expenditures?

Stick to the point at hand. It’s why I absolutely don’t trust social media for my news, it tends to be extremely biased or just off the wall “wha?” as if the Arts Endowment budget is related to security costs at Trump Tower.

On Friday, President Trump and his entourage will jet for the third straight weekend to a working getaway at his oceanfront Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla.

On Saturday, Trumps sons Eric and Don Jr., with their Secret Service details in tow, will be nearly 8,000 miles away in the United Arab Emirates, attending the grand opening of a Trump-brand golf resort in the Beverly Hills of Dubai.
Meanwhile, New York police will keep watch outside the Trump Tower in Manhattan, the chosen home of first lady Melania Trump and son Barron. And the tiny township of Bedminster, N.J., is preparing for the daunting prospect that the local Trump golf course will serve as a sort of northern White House for as many as 10 weekends a year.

Barely a month into the Trump presidency, the unusually elaborate lifestyle of Americas new first family is straining the Secret Service and security officials, stirring financial and logistical concerns in several local communities, and costing far beyond what has been typical for past presidents a price tag that, based on past assessments of presidential travel and security costs, could balloon into the hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of a four-year term.

[b]Trumps three Mar-a-Lago trips since the inauguration have likely cost the federal treasury roughly $10 million, based on figures used in an October government report analyzing White House travel, including money for Coast Guard units to patrol the exposed shoreline and other military, security and staffing expenses associated with moving the apparatus of the presidency.[/b]

[b]In New York, the city is paying $500,000 a day to guard Trump Tower, according to police officials estimates, an amount that could reach $183 million a year.[/b]
[b]Earlier this month, The Post reported that Secret Service and U.S. embassy staff paid nearly $100,000 in hotel-room bills to support Eric Trumps trip to promote a Trump-brand condo tower in Uruguay.[/b]

For Trump, the costs come with an additional perk: Some of the money flows into his own pocket. While Trump has removed himself from managing his company, he has refused to divest his ownership, meaning that he benefits from corporate successes such as government contracts.

[b]The Defense Department and Secret Service, for instance, have sought to rent space in Trump Tower, where leasing a floor can cost $1.5 million a year[/b] though neither agency has disclosed any details. In addition, Trumps travel to his signature properties while trailed by a press corps beaming images to the world allows the official business of the presidency to double as marketing opportunities for his brand.

I saw an article about his Florida weekends.  I’ll bet the people of Palm Beach are loving him.  They have to shut down the major roadway when his motorcade rolls in/out.  I also recall seeing a lot of small and/or private airfields in Florida.  No private aviation within a 30 mile radius of Mar-a-lago.

another Russian death–US envoy dies. Russia’s ambassador to the UN Churkin had the audacity to say this to US envoy Samantha Powers when she questioned Russia’s atrocities in Syria:” the weirdest speech to me was the one by the US representative who built her statement as if she is Mother Teresa herself. Please remember which country you represent. Please remember the track record of your country” he said… Gee the latter Part sounds eerily similar to P. Trump’s “U think our country is so innocent”–this is the US not Russia–things that make u say

Keep you eye on the ball, not the distractions. Trump wins by distracting from the real issues winning more support from his base while bamboozling the opposition who sputter in response instead of dealing with the real issues. He’s incompetent, soup-rounded by incompetents but who are skilled in manipulating people and the media with distractions and fake issues and real fake news.

Five years ago, I [link=http://www.city-journal.org/html/dodging-trump-bullet-10850.html]warned [/link]about the risk of a Donald J. Trump presidency. Most people laughed. They thought it inconceivable.

I was not particularly prescient; I come from Italy, and I had already seen this movie, starring Silvio Berlusconi, who led the Italian government as prime minister for a total of nine years between 1994 and 2011. I knew how it could unfold.

Now that Mr. Trump has been elected president, the Berlusconi parallel could offer an important lesson in how to avoid transforming a razor-thin victory into a two-decade affair. If you think presidential term limits and Mr. Trumps age could save the country from that fate, think again. His tenure could easily turn into a Trump dynasty.

Mr. Berlusconi was able to govern Italy for as long as he did mostly thanks to the incompetence of his opposition. It was so rabidly obsessed with his personality that any substantive political debate disappeared; it focused only on personal attacks, the effect of which was to increase Mr. Berlusconis popularity. His secret was an ability to set off a Pavlovian reaction among his leftist opponents, which engendered instantaneous sympathy in most moderate voters. Mr. Trump is no different.

The Italian experience provides a blueprint for how to defeat Mr. Trump. Only two men in Italy have won an electoral competition against Mr. Berlusconi: Romano Prodi and the current prime minister, Matteo Renzi (albeit only in a 2014 European election). Both of them treated Mr. Berlusconi as an ordinary opponent. They focused on the issues, not on his character. In different ways, both of them are seen as outsiders, not as members of what in Italy is defined as the political caste.

The Democratic Party should learn this lesson. It should not do as the Republicans did after President Obama was elected. Their preconceived opposition to any of his initiatives poisoned the Washington well, fueling the anti-establishment reaction (even if it was a successful electoral strategy for the party).

The last thing they should want is for Mr. Trump to use the Republican establishment as a fig leaf for his own failure, dumping on it the responsibility for blocking the popular reforms that he promised during the campaign and probably never intended to pass. That will only enlarge his image as a hero of the people shackled by the elites.

He’s not totally surrounded by incompetents.  I would say Mattis, and his new pick HR McMasters are quality.  Sort of makes you wonder why he didn’t pick someone like McMasters in the first place.  I listened to a McMasters speak at a conference via YouTube and he seems very in tune with reality.  Which is why it’s hard to understand Trump.  He’s clearly appointed some garbage people, like Betsy Devos or Rick Perry.  One who thinks we’re fending off grizzlies in school, and the other who didn’t know what his job would be.

Rick Perry thought the Energy Department meant he & the oil industry would be doing a circle jerk with each other.
