Currently Head of the CIA, now nominated for Secretary of State by Trump.

Might be a bumpy ride:

Rand Paul will oppose Pomeo nomination

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said that CIA Director Mike Pompeos earlier support for the Iraq war and defense of enhanced interrogation techniques or torture in the view of Paul and many other senators is disqualifying for his nomination to be Secretary of State, [link=http://politi.co/2FASVDJ]Politico[/link] reports.

And the Kentucky senator indicated he may be willing to filibuster both Pompeos nomination and CIA director nominee Gina Haspel, who he says is gleeful in her defense of torture techniques.

I give him 6 months before his reputation is in tatters like Kelly–Trump’s God is Putin and he will throw anyone under the bus for that
Pompeo Secretly Met Russian Foreign Minister
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Friday in an encounter the American side apparently wanted to keep under wraps, [link=https://www.politico.eu/article/state-department-keeps-quiet-as-pompeo-meets-lavrov-in-munich/]Politico[/link] reports.

The State Department made no announcement of the meeting, which took place in Lavrovs own dedicated meeting room at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, where the major annual conference of politicians, policymakers and security experts is held. Pompeos aides also did not provide any readout after the meeting ended.

As a travel-related sidebar: mrs_dergon has family in and around Munich, so we are there frequently. One of our traditions every time is to go to the Trader Vic’s in the basement of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof for a couple of fog cutters and a mai tai. It is some of the best euro people watching you’ll find (and a great place to get drunk) [image]https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif[/image]

The State Department says its paying more than $2 million per month to provide 24-hour security to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and a former top aide, both of whom face serious and credible threats from Iran.

The department told Congress in a report that the cost of protecting Pompeo and former Iran envoy Brian Hook between August 2021 and February 2022 amounted to $13.1 million. The report, dated Feb. 14 and marked sensitive but unclassified, was obtained by The Associated Press on Saturday.

Pompeo and Hook led the Trump administrations maximum pressure campaign against Iran and the report says U.S. intelligence assesses that the threats to them have remained constant since they left government and could intensify. The threats have persisted even as President Joe Bidens administration has been [link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fapnews.com%2Farticle%2Frussia-ukraine-putin-business-iran-bahamas-c0577bf7718055d730a3b72802c132c2]engaged in indirect negotiations with Iran[/link] over a U.S. return to a landmark 2015 nuclear deal.

Pompeos memoir debuted at No. 3 on the New York Times best-seller list for hardcover nonfiction. Two weeks later, it remains on the rankings at No. 5. The Times notes that retailers reported bulk orders of [link=https://amzn.to/3Ij1S1X]Never Give An Inch[/link].

Pompeo is not a candidate for federal office, so he is allowed to personally profit when his PAC buys his book with donors funds.
