[h1]McCarthys Impeachment Theater[/h1] The speaker is pinned between pro-impeachment hardliners who want to shut down the government, vulnerable moderates whose fate will determine control of Congress, and maybe the outcome of the 2024 election, too.
[link=https://puck.news/mccarthys-impeachment-theater/]Tina Nguyen[/link]:
Yes, it would be easy for Gaetz to initiate the process of snatching the gavel from McCarthy. But the problem, as the Republican source put it, is preventing McCarthy from grabbing it right back. John Boehners resignation as Speaker in 2015 was prompted not just by a [link=https://politicaldictionary.com/words/motion-to-vacate/]motion to vacate[/link] vote, but by the fact that there was a viable, vote-getting challenger waiting in the wings: Paul Ryan, who would eventually become Speaker himself. McCarthy has no such threat to his supremacy, unless Gaetz and four colleagues want to throw in with the Democrats.
Said a GOP source: If the inquiry is not enough, and they motion to vacate Kevin, then hell say, Ok, go ahead. Then you know what? Someones gonna renominate McCarthy and were gonna do 20 rounds again, just like last time. Thatd be the biggest waste of fucking time youve ever seen.[/QUOTE]The threat to vacate is mostly a hollow one until a challenger steps up

Im not a big fan of restating the obvious but yes. Thats the appropriate analysis.

It’s going to be interesting to see if it proves out that he knew Santos was a dirty little fella and backed him anyway.
-
Of course he knew.
The Santos story broke before he was even sworn into congress. He was already under multiple investigations for credible criminal activity in January of 2023.
McCarthy knew at least as much as all of us but backed him anyway . And qevin needed his support for speaker and to pass his budget
Santos is a convenient vote for McCarthy so McCarthy wont push him out

Haha. I was going to respond with another restating the obvious retort.

Yeah makes sense. The other one I’m not really understanding is Gaetz. There’s a pretty notorious video of Qev walking up saying something to him. Patting his shoulder and then he got his vote. Gaetz seems like he’s back to tough talking on KM. So what gives? I’m figuring he’s got the goods on Matty. Gaetz is all bark.

Been a tough stretch for Kevin with the house vote, no house vote impeachment inquiry stuff. He looks like an idiot.
