How to build up a radiology application for a non-traditional student?
Posted by freddychepe_223 on October 24, 2020 at 10:01 amHello! I’m an attending doc interested in going back to pursue radiology residency. What would you advise are the best ways to build up my application to be a strong applicant? Thanks in advance.

Why in the world as an attending would you go back to apply for 5 years of training in a specialty that is getting assaulted on all sides? Makes no sense.
Also if you completed one residency, your GME funding is likely significantly limited.-
I’m aware of both of these things, thanks. Still would be interested in why you feel radiology is being “assaulted” but yes, I have though a lot about this.

If you want to be a radiologist, hearing about the “doom and gloom” is an indispensable part of the field. Radiology worked fantastic for me and right now I work part time just because I need the intellectual stimulation. When I chose radiology in med school in 90s, many people were talking about the extinction of radiology by early 21st century and every time people say that this time is different than all the history. So nothing against radiology. But you have to do a lot of soul searching and investigation before making such a big life-changing decision. I am not sure the pros & cons of switching is in your favor.
Good Luck.

I 100% hear you as well and can appreciate the candor and the positive view of radiology.
Can I learn more about why you don’t think the pros and cons of switching would be in my favor? I feel very dedicated to this so would definitely like to understand more.
