Trump says he never said that people with coronavirus should go to work … FAKE NEWS!

Trump Insists Less Travel Will Help Economy

Heres how President Trump tried to reassure Americans about the state of the economy during a [link=https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1235712349090263040]Fox News town hall event[/link]:

[blockquote] Well, look, we were set to hit 30,000 on the Dow. This is a number that nobody even came close to. And already we have the number. And even though its down 10 or 11 percent, its still the highest its ever been, by far. It certainly might have an impact. At the same time, I have to say, people are now staying in the United States, spending their money in the U.S. and I like that. People are now staying in the United States, spending their money in the U.S., and I like that. Ive been after that for a long time.

[/blockquote] [link=https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/03/trump-coronavirus-help-economy-travel-stock-market.html]Jonathan Chait[/link]: This string of sentences is like an onion of stupidity, and peeling back each layer revealed even more stupidity lying beneath.

All this work to protect Donald’s feelings of failure. Maybe someone needs to buy some paper towels form Costco for him to throw at the CDC meeting so he can say how President “Only I” fixed everything, & “Take that!” Democratic hoax!

Perhaps you should request that President Donald twit less often. As often ad dergon posts it is no match for Donald’s twits which have the intended consequences of drastically changing the subject every 15 seconds. Something Donald twitted 3 days ago feels like 3 mos ago he twits so often dragging the “news” with him along.

You pretty well have to keep a running tab just to keep up otherwise you are lost in Donald’s noise. dergon’s posts help to keep up with Donald’s noise.
Why the U.S. Is So Vulnerable to Coronavirus

As the number of coronavirus cases mount in the US, experts are warning that the country is unusually vulnerable to the spread of the disease, the [link=https://www.ft.com/content/00017d02-5f39-11ea-b0ab-339c2307bcd4]Financial Times[/link] reports.

Public health officials and academics are concerned that a mix of high numbers of uninsured people, a lack of paid sick leave, and a political class that has downplayed the threat could mean it spreads more quickly than in other countries.

The spread of coronavirus could be fuelled by patients reluctant to seek care because of the expense of the US healthcare system.
Trump Interrupts Coronavirus Briefing to Ask About His Ratings, wants Cruise Ships to stay at sea to keep numbers down.

President Trump interrupted a Friday press conference on the 2019 novel coronavirus to ask a Fox News reporter whether his town hall show on Fox on Thursday night had good ratings, the [link=https://www.thedailybeast.com/president-trump-interrupts-coronavirus-briefing-to-ask-fox-reporter-about-his-tv-ratings?ref=home]Daily Beast[/link] reports.

In a rambling briefing that bordered on bizarre, Trump also said coronavirus testing kits were almost as perfect as his infamous phone call with the Ukrainian president and he didnt want infected cruise ship passengers to come ashore in California because it would increase the U.S. tally of COVID-19 cases.

Said Trump: I like the numbers being where they are. I dont need to have the numbers double because of one ship.

Donald apparently has a “natural ability” to understand medicine!

Just like I said he would brag! He knows this stuff better than all his physicians!

Everyone can retire now, Donald has it all taken care of in his tiny hands. And he didn’t even have to sleep in a Holiday Inn!

I still can’t get over people are actually supporting this total idiot.

“Fool supporters once, shame on Donald,
Fool supporters twice, shame on the supporters!”

President Trump likes to say that he fell into politics almost by accident, and on Friday, as he sought to calm a nation gripped with fears over coronavirus, he suggested he would have thrived in another profession medical expert.

I like this stuff. I really get it, Trump boasted to reporters during a tour of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, where he met with actual doctors and scientists who are feverishly scrambling to contain and combat the deadly illness. Citing a great, super-genius uncle who taught at MIT, Trump professed that it must run in the family genes.

People are really surprised I understand this stuff, he said. Every one of these doctors said, How do you know so much about this? Maybe I have a natural ability.

And he described coronavirus testing kits which his administration has been criticized for being slow to distribute as beautiful and said they were as perfect as his Ukraine phone call last summer that led him to be impeached.

The upshot was that the self-proclaimed medical savant came off looking less interested in his administrations unsteady efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus than he was in bolstering his own status in a campaign year.

Redfield said the agency had sent out 75,000 kits. Then Trump jumped in: Anybody who wants a test will get a test, thats the bottom line. A few moments later, he jokingly compared the situation to his phone call last summer in which he had pressured Ukraines president to launch an investigation into Democratic presidential candidate [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/candidates/joe-biden/?tid=lk_inline_manual_20&itid=lk_inline_manual_20]Joe Biden[/link] and his son.

The tests are all perfect, like the letter was perfect, the transcription was perfect, right? Trump said. This was not as perfect as that, but pretty good.

How was the show last night? Trump asked a Fox reporter in the room, referring to a Fox News-produced, town hall-style event in Scranton, Pa., that he had participated in the night before.

Did it get good ratings? Trump said. The reporter said he didnt know. Oh, really? Trump continued. I heard it broke all ratings records. But maybe thats wrong. Thats what they told me.

Trump administration overrode CDC recommendation that elderly, at-risk populations not fly: AP

The White House this week batted down a recommendation from health officials that elderly people and those who are physically fragile not fly on commercial airplanes, according to an unnamed official with direct knowledge of the situation.

The Associated Press reported that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) submitted a plan this week with the recommendation as a way to control the spread of the virus. However, administration officials reportedly ordered that that particular provision of the plan be removed.

The Trump administration has since then suggested that those who are most susceptible to the virus not travel, but, according the news source have stopped short of stronger guidance laid out by the CDC.
[link=https://www.news4jax.com/health/2020/03/08/state-department-urges-us-citizens-to-avoid-cruise-ship-travel/]State Department urges US citizens to avoid cruise ship travel[/link]
Passengers on Cruise Ships

U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship. CDC notes increased risk of infection of COVID-19 in a cruise ship environment. In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented strict screening procedures that have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers from disembarking. In some cases, local authorities have permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local quarantine procedures. While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities.

This is a fluid situation. CDC notes that older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease. This entails avoiding crowded places, avoiding non-essential travel such as long plane trips, and especially avoiding embarking on cruise ships. Passengers with plans to travel by cruise ship should contact their cruise line companies directly for further information and continue to monitor the Travel.state.gov website and see the latest information from the CDC

Its no longer contained and although the seriousness of an infection is not really know and may turn out to be another flu-type season its best to get out in front early

The White House needs to muzzle Trump. His comments are outright ridiculous. Pence does a much better job w messaging. Trump needs to smarten up on his handling this because this will prevent his re-election. It needs to start w him by canceling all his upcoming rallies. They need to take a serious look at at events drawing crowds such as NBA games, NHL games and especially NCAA March Madness.   NCAA in particular draws a lot of travel from all over the country. Travel seems to be a common denominator in all this.

Calling a national emergency would open up funding for dedicated testing centers in all major cities amongst other things

That would be the first step in minimizing a pandemic

Denial is not going to make this go away

Yup. Public perception has reached an inflection point. At or near the point where better off saying eff it, all non-essential travel and events are cancelled until we know more.

I’ve got ticket in Toronto for Hamilton in a few weeks.  That’s the only city travel I have planned.

After that it’s all just getting up to an isolated island in north Ontario for the summer.

As long they don’t close the US/Canada border I’m ok

Telling Trump not to talk about something is like telling your dog not to scratch his balls.

From what we know, it’s not something that one infected person would spread to a large crowd. Yes, it’s travel related, but the spread still tends to be among persons in close contact, like the crew in the cramped crew-quarters on a cruise ship or among family.

I went to an NBA game last night. 4 courtside seats that someone couldn’t use. Was very conscious about what I touched etc. I guess if I die, I’ll be a martyr for the cause of basketball.

I love the idea of this as “pandemic”

It’ll scare markets, but that’s because of the existing economic conditions/governments/joke central banks/etc

Biologically this is pretty much a nothing burger, for any normal person. There will always be a blame session when some unfit old bag like kpack dies. That’s just America — especially if you have TDS

State governors in the states that are affected can already do that.

NG has lots of resources that can come in handy with this. Dealing with materials from a quarantine center isn’t all that different from dealing with a NBC incident.
Matt Gaetz Will Self-Quarantine
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who made light of the coronavirus outbreak by wearing a gas mask, is now self-quarantining after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for the coronavirus.

Doug Collins Will Self-Quarantine
Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) announced that he would self-quarantine at his home after coming into contact with a person who later tested positive for the novel coronavirus, [link=https://thehill.com/homenews/house/486666-doug-collins-to-self-quarantine-after-coming-in-contact-with-coronavirus]The Hill[/link] reports.

Said Collins: This afternoon, I was notified by CPAC that they discovered a photo of myself and the patient who has tested positive for coronavirus. While I feel completely healthy and I am not experiencing any symptoms, I have decided to self-quarantine at my home for the remainder of the 14-day period out of an abundance of caution.

Collins was recently [link=https://twitter.com/samstein/status/1237099279627489281]shaking hands[/link] with President Trump before his CDC tour in Atlanta last Friday.

Apparently Donald has been physically in contact exposed to a couple of people who were exposed themselves.
