I guess the moral if the story is……It’s better to be a mall cop wannabe vigilante than a street corner cigarette salesman

I love the resisting arrest comment Dalai

5 police officers surround the guy….one coward gets behind him with a chokehold while the other 4 hold him down.

I guess that’s resisting

If you choose to play by those rules then don’t be shocked and appalled when some lunatic from declares it open season on police

It’s that type of attitudes that gives these idiots ideas

I suppose the cops should have let him run off to break the law some other day.

No, the lunatics declare it open season on cops far more because of rhetoric like yours than like mine. A constant drum-beat of how horrible the police are, how they are targeting African-American males, ad nauseum, is the fodder for crazies (and some not so crazy) to kill those who are out there protecting you and me.

The anti-cop message is the ideology of those who don’t want to be bothered with following the rules of society.

NYPD have a long history of over aggressive tactics with police reports that don’t reflect what happened and then suddenly a tape appears…luckily this guy was white  so no death and the person who took the tape had nothing the police could put him in jail for(retaliation)…I can’t BREATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

George Zimmerman involved in Florida shooting
George Zimmerman — acquitted by a Florida jury over the death of Trayvon Martin — was involved in a shooting in Lake Mary, Florida, on Monday, police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett said.

Zimmerman apparently suffered a minor gunshot wound, CNN affiliate WESH-TV reported, citing the police chief.

The affiliate spoke with one witness, Ricardo Berrare, who also said Zimmerman’s injuries didn’t look serious.

“He walked normally into the ambulance, so he wasn’t being helped or nothing,” Berrare told WESH.

The shooting is under investigation, but it appeared to be some type of road rage incident, Gillett told CNN

Not so sure what Stand Your Ground law has to do with the Zimmerman case. Please explain since that was not mentioned by the defense in the Zimmerman trial

Mr Frum. facts are not disingenuous. This case never had anything to do with Stand Your Ground. Those on the left constantly blow up nonsense trying to push their own agenda.

However.. this appears to be a long standing feud between these two. Again.. nothing to do with Stand Your Ground

Just because Zimmerman’s defense team didn’t bring up Stand Your Ground in the trial, that doesn’t mean the law was irrelevant to the jury’s decision. The Judge  made clear in the jury instructions that they should consider the law.

“If George Zimmerman was not engaged in an unlawful activity and was attacked in any place where he had a right to be, he had no duty to retreat and had the right to stand his ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he reasonably believed that it was necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.”

It was Florida’s 2005 SYG that brought that above terminology into the standard jury instructions.

It is true that during the trial Zimmerman defense team claimed he was unable to retreat, not unwillinging. But, the jury confirmed that they had discussed “stand your ground” during deliberations.

Mark O’Mara, the head of Zimmerman’s defense team gave a nod to acknowledging the potential to confuse juries with SYG terminolgy being used, under Florida law, in non SYG defense case.

”Only include it in those cases where the ‘stand your ground, no duty to retreat’ issue is relevant,” O’Mara told Reuters on Wednesday. […]
O’Mara said his proposal was “a nice polishing of the jury instructions that will address people’s concerns that juries are getting confused about stand your ground when it’s not appropriate.”

Would Zimmerman have been acquitted of murder pre-2005 under a  different legal standard? Probably.   The prosecution would have been smarter with a manslaughter charge.   But SYG is interdigitated everywhere in Florida’s system for self-defense legal cases, whether defense team explicitly make claim or no, making it at least a contributory factor.

I didn’t count the numbers here but this site has a list of which states are duty to retreat and which are stand your ground.  In Ohio we are duty to retreat which makes sense to me because it protects against people like Zimmerman who seemingly caused their own trouble and you can also still use deadly force as long as it’s justified.

There was no ‘stand your ground’ issue in the Zimmerman case. He had the imprints of the sidewalk on the back of his head to prove that he had nowhere to retreat to.

It’s not a stand your ground issue but there’s a big dif between stand and duty to retreat.  The later in my mind causes less trouble.  You have a duty to not be in the trouble in the first place.

In his order, the judge wrote that Zimmerman had failed to show any fraudulent representation and said any further arguments in the case would be futile.

There can be no claim for conspiracy to defraud if there is no adequately stated claim for fraud, Cooper wrote in the order filed more than two weeks ago.
