  • Bill Gates, Sr dies

Those who claim that the wealth they have accumulated is theirs to pass on without returning anything back to the American system show a shocking lack of appreciation for all that the system and public monies did to help them create wealth.

        No problem.

I have to say, I didn’t even realize he was still alive.

Also, I don’t follow that quote.  It says that the person has built up the wealth aka earned it…but then somehow owes it back to the government even though it’s already been taxed several times?

It should be set up just like tIRAs vs rothIRAs …get taxes on the front end (capital gains, income tax) or the back end (wealth/estate tax, gift tax) but not both.

I don’t understand when it became fashionable to despise wealthy people and what they have accomplished.

It used to be you walked through a rich neighborhood and said “Man, how can I work hard to get what those people have.”  And then you went out and you did it.  Now, people walk through those neighborhoods and all they can think about is “Man, they don’t deserve that.  How can we take it from them.”
