  • part-time work

How hard is it to find a part-time gig right out of fellowship or 1-2 years out of fellowship?

Between our new family and other interests I would like to keep my rads work to a part-time basis.

Part time on a weekly basis thru locum tenen is not tough.  Partial week is harder.  Jobs are drying out a little.

In many places the availability is limited by malpractice insurance.
You have to pay 52 weeks of coverage even if you work 20.
We tried to develop a position where two senior rads would cover 52 weeks between the two, but did not do it because we had to buy two full time policies

What are some telerad companies that are decent to work for:  Templeton, US Teleradiology?  Any input is appreciated.  Don’t they usually require 3 years commitment/contract?

You can PM me for frank opinions or confidentiality.  Also, any input on locum companies as well, maybe Comphealth?

Yes malpractice is that high. Depending on where you work it can be over 20K a year. The other problem is all the other benes such as heath ins., pension, etc. We had 2 rads split a position, but based pay on total compensation so that benes were included. This meant that they each were paid for significantly less than 50% of partner.

Not hard to find a part time job esp if you do IR or MSK. Just talk to the groups.

I would just get your own malpractice insurance and be an independent contractor. You can work as much or as little as you want- assuming you are in a decent size city with decent opportunities.

How much do you estimate you could earn on a part-time basis, say 3 days a week?

is med malpratice insurance that high for rads in the US?

I am from Canada and we pay a few thousand a year, how much in the US (I realize it is state dependent)?

Is it higher for interventional rads?

How common are independent contractors?  Any examples of how much or how little time they spend working, or what kind of time and hours they schedule?
