I believe it is right now for private practices.  The ACR is sitting at 762 jobs.  If you eliminate all the corporate jobs there are probably 400 private practice jobs.  Many private practices are not actively advertising but they know that volumes have come back and they will be needing the staffing.  Do some research, send some emails and make some calls.

Agreed. Depends upon your specialty (or how general your skills are), but I’ve seen an increase for my niche over the past month.

Agree to both posts above.

General radiologists are always in demand.

My group is always looking to add good talent. Between growth and retirements there always is a need.

We aren’t advertising. We mainly higher those with connections to the area. That almost always is the best long term fit for both parties.

Yes. We’re also hiring, not advertising, already have a few lined up from prior interview cycles.

Hiring.  The pandemic has forced us (and probably many people) to revise our interviewing and hiring strategies.  It’s no longer so easy or even desirable for either party to simply come for an interview.  And so we’ve added additional filters to ensure that those we bring out are truly interested and would be an excellent fit.

It’s ended up being an improvement.  Quite a bit of time and effort saved, and we don’t lose anything by not interviewing someone who wasn’t really all that interested.

Similar thoughts and experience here.

Public service announcement: For anyone interviewing soon, please practice looking at your webcam, reducing nervous movements, and staying engaged with the interviewer. The initial virtual interview is likely here to stay and there is no need to make it awkward by having the camera look up your nose as you stare up or further down at your screen instead of making “virtual eye contact”.

Good advice above. Preparing and rehearsing for interviews is really important. It always surprises me how physicians who have invested so much in their medical training often do not apply the same diligence to the job hunt and interview process. It’s like you can see the finish line at a marathon and then suddenly you let up and take a long break.

Our volume is still 85-90% of what it used to be. So no hiring for the foreseeable future.

As usual, the auntminnie experience is different than real world. If you look at official numbers, still the volume of medical business is below the pre-Covid era.

Agree. Prepandemic acr listings were around 1200 so we remain well below that even if we are no longer scraping the bottom of the barrel.

We won’t be hiring for at least 3 years or so… still looking for about 3 partners to retire.

I’m sure there is a ton of geographic variability.  But overall one has to assume it is logical that imaging volume is down a bit nationwide.

We are back over 100% and have not stopped hiring.

PPs are hurt harder from what I understand. Big ones like Kaiser are doing ok right now.

Kaiser is a payer/provider… They are bringing in money, but not spending it… They are probably insulated and will see a lag based on unemployment related declines in membership. They also will likely have to return some of the memberships fees as other insurers have done (I speculate).

I think the lag is a concern for everyone.   We’re still in the “snap back” part of the volume curve right now, people getting healthcare that they had deferred.

But if the unemployment rate remains elevated and more people lose insurance, then demand will fall off again …. potentially for an extended period of time.

I can totally see how someone running a PP or an administrator running a large system would want to be cautious in aggressive hiring at this time.

We’re continuing to hire because we were *markedly* understaffed heading in to the pandemic … so a long way to go to get to normal, even if volume ended up off 5-10% from the highs.

Were back to 100%+, and expect rest of year to stay up. More people using ER as primary care, and we know what that means for volume. Wouldnt hazard a guess on next years numbers. We are recruiting now, anticipating retirements, or partner retracting involvement.

Midwest is starting to look pretty busy again. I’ve had a few job interviews over the past few weeks, all decent offers.

Midwest is busy around me…100-110%.  Outpatient centers are flooded with people that think they are safer than going to the hospitals.   New weekend hours, later hours, etc.

Large private group in south. Volumes back to normal. Hiring across multiple disciplines, we don’t typically post the positions online.

Anyone live in the rocky mountains? How is the job market around the rocky mountain area? Is it pretty easy to find a PP partnership pathway gig in MT, WY, CO, ID, basically somewhere i can ski in the winter and enjoy the mountains in other ways in the summer?  Honestly, more rural in a lot of ways, better

I dont know what its like at present, but ski country jobs have always had more demand than supply. Too many 50 year old rads looking to go pet time and live in their vacation home

Job market seems very strong right now which is great news for me since my current group is trying to sell themselves to the highest corporate bidder.
