  • Liability for Injury Incurred due to Flexion/Extension C-spine X-Rays

Posted by Valerie-R on July 3, 2024 at 9:56 am

I had a provider order flexion/extension X-rays on a person in a stiff c-collar. I was told to just remove the collar and do the flexion and extension images. I was alone, unsupervised by the provider. Should I perform flex and ext of the cervical spine without the provider present? It is very possible to cause injury to the c-spine by performing this exam. I would think they are in a stiff c-collar for a reason. Would I be liable for any injury caused? Am I wrong?
