Erdogon will not create 11,000 votes out of nothing. Authoritarians get democratically elected and then they dismantle their country’s democracy guaranteeing their staying in power in the name of freedom.

I’m surprised it’s even close. Based on what I’ve heard about the earthquake it sounded like a lot of people in power were at fault. there was an amnesty grant for lax building standards and builders kept using sub-par materials and standards.

Sure but in Turkey you’re looking at a government that sure looks like it bears a lot of responsibility for people being buried in rubble. The buildings there were catastrophes waiting to happen.
