Val Demings (D-FL)
Posted by btomba_77 on April 23, 2021 at 6:21 am[h1]Val Demings Mulls Bid for Higher Office[/h1]
Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) said shes seriously considering a statewide bid against Sen. Marco Rubio (R) or Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), boosting Democratic hopes in a battleground state thats growing increasingly red, [link=https://www.politico.com/news/2021/04/23/demings-challenging-desantis-rubio-484386]Politico[/link] reports.
Said Demings: Ive received so many calls and texts and emails, and have been stopped when Im out and about by people who are asking me that very same question. Matter of fact, they think I should run for statewide office and maybe challenge the governor, or challenge Sen. Rubio next year. Im seriously considering a statewide run. And well see what happens.

Rubio is not real popular over all here. Considered kinda wishy washy and Val should drive turnout in Orlando and broward brevard counties
As far as desantis ….. he will have his hands full with Nikki Fried our secretary of agriculture and a rising political star
Desantis is an odd case. Very popular with the white trumpers not so much with Cuban/Latino group who went big for trump in the general
Would not be surprised if Fried knocks off desantis
Nationally desantis is getting good publicity in republican media but he is just freakin weird. He has that weird blank stare and aloofness similar to Mike Pompeo
While he gets high marks from republicans he is just kinda weird and not real likable day in and day out
If he ever makes it to the national stage you will see what I mean

Rubio is sort of the anti Desantis
He is really popular with the Cuban/Latino community but the white trumpers dont really like him
It will be very interning to see how 2022 plays out

Re Rubio
[link=https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/28/marco-rubio-2022-campaign-463382]https://www.politico.com/…o-2022-campaign-463382[/link]
What Democrat beats that guy?: Top Dems flinch from Rubio challenge
Florida Democrats cant stand Marco Rubio. But, at the moment, they dont have much confidence they can knock him off in 2022.
-
Rubio is solid
And now I dont know anyone who considers FL a purple state anymore
Its a really tough lift to knock him off

Deleted UserApril 23, 2021 at 8:36 amIm going to disagree big time with that
I dont think Rubio is solid at all here
He is almost a joke amongst white trumpers
Very popular With the Cuban and other Latino groups which are a powerful voting block
I do thing Val Demmings can drive turnout in the major counties
Would be interesting

Why is Val Demings special and why could she possibly beat DeSantis or Rubio in a lean-red state?
Seems unlikely. I also like how it’s an either/or situation which clearly delineates the fact that she doesn’t care about either job at all but only herself. But hey that’s true of all politicians so it’s cool.-

This is a 50-50 state
Whoever wins the I-4 corridor usually wins statewide
Val demmings extremely popular in Orlando and Tampa which is pretty much the I-4 corridor
North florida is the republicans stronghold they do like desantis there but they are not big on Rubio
If you recall trump trounced Rubio in the florida primary 2016
North florida is very trump friendly but they arent big on Rubio
-
You are the only person I know who thinks FL is still 50/50
more like 51-49 or 52-48 R lean…. somewhere between 2-4PVI.

Trump had strange effect on florida
If you look at the 2018 midterm it was essentially a 50-50 statewide race for governor and senator
Just watch

Her profile jumped as one of the impeachment managers during Trump’s first trial.
She’s relatively new to Congress without a lot of baggage.
Biden had her on the list of potential VP candidates which also raised her profile.
Her name recognition is high statewide for a Rep.

Add those fleeing the blue state BS to the Cuban and Venezuelan exiles along with your run of the mill deplorables and youve got yourself a beautiful freedom fiefdom.

Also amusing that you would consider blue anon clown show BS a selling point in FL.

Deleted UserApril 23, 2021 at 6:44 pmFlorida is like California in 1950-60
I live in pinellas county
Its the 4-5th most populous county in the state
Our population has increased 11% since 2014
Most of the new people are north east transplanted liberal voters
Florida is a very unique state but its very trending progressive
I live here. I see it every day
Just wstch

“Most of the new people are north east transplanted liberal voters”
I don’t think that’s true either. Sure, that is *some* of the retirement migration. But there is probably a 5-6 point GOP advantage in Boomer/Silent generation voting and I haven’t seen anything to suggest that the trend or in-migration is getting more Blue.
-
I would tend to think its more red. The impression that I have of Florida is largely rural and then you have the places are chock-a-block with money. Like Naples, west palm, Miami. That felt like a different planet compared to Orlando.
Kind of like OH. Population centers vote dem and the white burbs/hog gnarlin folks are super Trumpy.

Deleted UserApril 24, 2021 at 2:35 pmThere are 3 Floridas
North florida is heavily Republican 70-30
South florida is democratic 60-40
Central florida is really close to 50-50 and is basically the I-4 corridor
Whoever wins that wins statewide except this past presidential election
Trump did extremely well with non-Cuban Latinos. Better than any politician in recent memory even better than Jeb Bush who has a Spanish speaking wife
I dont think the trump effect will carry on to other republicans in the future
Thats my opinion

I really dont get the leftist identity politic thought process, that they would think this is something that matters.

I will tell you that we usually vote Democratic
I dont know the stats on the 2020 election but there is a weird Macho effect that for some reason trump tapped into. Despite the fact that trump belittled Puerto Rico and did next to nothing to help us many of my Ststeside relatives of mine voted for him
Dont know why

[h1]Val Demings’ Secret Weapon Against Rubio: Black Women[/h1]
[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/05/25/rising-democratic-star-val-demings-wants-challenge-florida-sen-marco-rubio-could-she-win/]Ashley Daniels and Pearl Dowe[/link]: We expect Demings will have a good chance, given her strong fundraising history and her connection to Black female voters in community and civic organizations. Our research finds that Black womens organizations are critical in mobilizing support and votes.
When a statewide Democratic candidate takes full advantage of these networks, engaging regularly with Black female voters, that constituency can give her a competitive edge at times enough to win historically Republican states.
Thats what we saw in 2017, when Doug Jones won the U.S. Senate race in Alabama, backed by Black women. And its what we saw when both Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff won the 2021 Senate runoffs in Georgia.

Val Demings officially launches. Battle lines pretty clear…. she tags Rubio as pals with Trump and Washington same old, same old.
Rubio calls her a socialist.
Good ad. I think Marco is going to be tough to pick off…. but we can hope 🙂
