He never listens to his lawyers. But he listened this time, didnt he? Why? Because hes scared. He is scared hes just a couple of steps away from that jail cell closing behind him.
Chris Christie, quoted by the [link=https://www.huffpost.com/entry/christie-trump-scared-of-jail_n_64e0da41e4b04a3ebc33f537]HuffPost[/link], on Donald Trump canceling his news conference next week.

We obtained records showing a senior DOJ officials handwritten notes on an email rejecting Trump loyalist Jeffrey Clarks scheme to falsely tell state officials that DOJ was investigating significant concerns that could change 2020 election results.
(Doesn’t help Trump’s “I thought I really won” case either)

Trump out on $200,000 bond in GA case.
_________
Interesting snippet from the bond agreement:
The Defendant shall make no direct or indirect threat of any nature against any codefendant; The Defendant shall make no direct or indirect threat of any nature against any witness including, but not limited to, the individuals designated in the Indictment as an unindicated co-conspirators Individual 1 through Individual 30; The Defendant shall make no direct or indirect threat of any nature against any victim; The Defendant shall make no direct or indirect threat of any nature against the community or to any property in the community; The above shall include, but are not limited to, posts on social media or reposts of posts made by another individual on social media; (5) The Defendant shall not communicate in any way, directly or indirectly, about the facts of this case with any person known to him to be a codefendant in this case except through his or her counsel. -
DOJ’s response to the 2026 trial date. Summary:
1. Trumps lawyers didn’t use the right data sets when calculating average trial times (it’s COVID era timing and includes pretrial, trial AND sentencing)
2. No one reads every single piece of discovery any longer….and here’s the DOJ recommendations for electronic discovery ICYMI Turnip attys
3. Why are you bringing up CIPA, there is little to no classified info to be used at trial
4. Don’t whine about the amount of discovery…more than 65% of it is either from Trump himself or he already has it.
5. Conflicts with GA court appearance? Fine, we’ll slide a week[link=https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.258148/gov.uscourts.dcd.258148.32.0_1.pdf]https://storage.courtlist….dcd.258148.32.0_1.pdf[/link]

[h1][b]Trump Floats Plan to Flee to Russia[/b][/h1]
Donald Trump lashed out at Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis [link=https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/110930777273421644]in a bizarre post on Truth Social[/link].
Wrote Trump: The failed District Attorney of Fulton County (Atlanta), Fani Willis, insisted on a $200,000 Bond from me. I assume, therefore, that she thought I was a flight risk Id fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again.
He added: Would I be able to take my very understated airplane with the gold TRUMP affixed for all to see. Probably not, Id be much better off flying commercial Im sure nobody would recognize me!

Meadows and Fani Willis is a fun follow –
Meadows asks for an extension to present himself to the Atlanta jail

Willis says no-
“I am not granting any extensions. I gave 2 weeks for people to surrender themselves to the court. Your client is no different than any other criminal defendant in this jurisdiction. The two weeks was a tremendous courtesy. At 12:30 pm on Friday I shall file warrants in the system. My team has availability to meet to discuss reasonable consent bonds Wednesday and Thursday.”
________
Meadows gives a “do you know who I am!?” response:

“While I can understand the sentiment behind the assertion that Mr Meadows is ‘no different than any other criminal defendant’ in (Fulton County), we both know that is simply not true when it comes to our request. He is a former federal official…”

[b]Georgias fake electors acted at Trumps direction, indicted ex-GOP chair says[/b][/h1] David Shafer, former chairman of the Georgia Republican Party and one of the [link=https://www.axios.com/2023/08/15/georgia-indictment-trump-co-defendants]19 defendants[/link] in the Georgia election interference case, claimed in a court filing that he and the other Republican electors who tried to falsely certify Donald Trump as the winner in Georgia were acting at the former president’s behest.
Why it matters: As defendants in the sprawling case begin to [link=https://www.axios.com/2023/08/22/trump-codefendant-surrender-georgia-jail]turn themselves in[/link] ahead of the Friday deadline, Shafer’s position signals that some may be poised to turn on the former president.
Flashback: Shafer and 15 other Republican electors met at the state capitol on Dec. 14, 2020 and signed a document falsely declaring that Trump had won Georgia.
[ul][*]Trump and several of his former lawyers along with some of the Republican electors and other alleged conspirators now face charges relating to their alleged roles in trying to overturn the results. [/ul] State of play: “Mr. Shafer and the other Republican Electors in the 2020 election acted at the direction of the incumbent President and other federal officials,” Shafer’s lawyers wrote in the [link=https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.gand.310324/gov.uscourts.gand.310324.2669.0.pdf]court filing[/link] Monday.

Government filing re “the IT guy”

… In Mar 2023, govt called Taverasthen repd by Woodwardbefore DC grand jury. Beforehand, govt warned Woodward of a potential conflict, but Woodward said he knew of none. Taveras then perjured self, denying discussing destroying video surveillance footage with De Oliveira.
… Govt notes in passing that Taveras had been referred to Woodward by a Trump lawyer and his fees were then being paid by Trumps Save America PAC. …
… Govt says the target letter crystallized Woodwards conflict, because having Taveras correct his g.j. testimony, to avoid prosecution, would implicate Nauta, Woodwards other client.
… Woodward still declined to recognize a conflict, insisting that, per govt, Taveras could choose to tough out his indictment by going to trial and hoping for the best. He said hed also told Taveras of his right to cooperate, too.
On Jun 27 govt asked for a conflicts hearing before chief judge Boasberg in DC, who supervises the DC grand jury, where the perjury occurred. Govt advised Judge Cannon same day in sealed filings. Woodward did *not* object. …
Judge Boasberg asked an independent counsel, Shelli Peterson of DC Federal Public Defenders, to advise Taveras on potential conflicts. Taveras asked Peterson to represent him and then retracted his false testimony, implicating Nauta, De O, & Trump, per govt. /12
… Pretty powerful filing, IMHO. Unnecessarily embarrassing to Woodward, Nauta, De Oliveira, Trumpand Judge Cannon. Whole filing here:
[link=https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23924434-129-usa-reply]https://www.documentcloud…23924434-129-usa-reply[/link]-
Woodward should perhaps be having his disbarment hearing some time soon.

I am not a lawyer, but I am a frequent reader of legal prose. And while I can’t assess the legal merits of the arguments made, that filing to remove the case from state courts was clearly written by a lawyer who practices his craft under the premise of: [i]’If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, pound the table and yell like hell*’ [/i]
It’s like an AI algorithm was programmed to spit out random legal constructs with the hope that one of them actually applies.
I have a feeling it’ll be just as successful as the 60 or so suits filed in the aftermath of the election. There are probably a dozen or so of these petitions hitting the northern district of georgia federal filing system right now. Every judge in the circuit is going to get at least one of those petitions. They probably groan at the prospect of having to spend time on writing the dismissals. No, it’s not ‘all politics’ if you go and forge an instrument.
* or its modern corollary: [i]’If the facts are against you, argue the law. If the law is against you, argue the facts. If the law and the facts are against you, baffle them with bullsh1t.’ [/i]

Didn’t say there is anything wrong with rolling this up as the organized crime case it is.
What IS wrong with this approach on the organized crime cases is that often it leaves low level operatives with decades long fed sentences while the triggerpullers and shot-callers walk away with some tax reporting charges.

[b]Georgia Prosecutors Want October Trial Date for Trump[/b][/h1]
Georgia prosecutors [link=https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23926016-request-for-oct-23-trial-date]asked a state judge[/link] to schedule Donald Trumps racketeering trial for Oct. 23, 2023, an unexpectedly expedited timeline that they proposed in response to a formal demand by one of Trumps 18 codefendants for a speedy trial, [link=https://www.politico.com/news/2023/08/24/fulton-county-prosecutors-ask-judge-to-set-oct-23-trial-on-trump-racketeering-charges-00112816]Politico[/link] reports.
The demand came Wednesday from Kenneth Chesebro, an attorney who is accused of orchestrating a scheme to send false electors to Congress. His speedy trial demand seeks to force a quick trial that comes within, or shortly after, the term of the grand jury that issued the indictment against Trump and his allies. On Thursday morning, Chesebro asked for an expedited arraignment to facilitate his speedy trial effort. -

But does that force the other defendants to agree to a kangaroo court ? His case is gonna get split off and with any luck he is eligible for parole by the next election.

Indisputable truths. Yet Trump is the one being indicted.

“The former head of the CIA [was] on TV everyday saying Russia attacked our democracy. They interfered in our election…They all knew it was bullshit. They all knew from the very beginning…Meanwhile all of it was actually a U.S. intelligence agency’s operation to interfere in the election.”

From the Left and Right …
Judge Luttig and Laurence Tribe agree that Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson should sue to have Trump removed from the ballot
[link=https://twitter.com/judgeluttig/status/1695814568092516551]https://twitter.com/judge…us/1695814568092516551[/link]
Steven Calabresi, a law professor at Northwestern and Yale and [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/10/us/trump-jan-6-insurrection-conservatives.html]co-founder of The Federalist Society[/link], has suggested that a candidate, specifically Christie, take the lead: Chris Christie is legally injured by Donald Trumps name being on the ballot, Calabresi wrote this month in [link=https://reason.com/volokh/2023/08/10/trump-is-disqualified-from-being-on-any-election-ballots/]The Volokh Conspiracy[/link], a libertarian-leaning legal blog. They draw from some similar voters. Christie should sue, if necessary, to get Trumps name off the ballot. Id expand Calabresis call for Christie to sue to include Hutchinson as well, especially since he seems to be well aware of the arguments in favor of Trumps disqualification.
From there, the case is likely to rocket up to the Supreme Court, where its anybodys guess how the supposed originalists in the majority would react to an argument that would have such major ramifications on the Republican Party. But even without a suit from either of the two candidates, the court will likely hear a case on the matter soon enough. Baude and Paulsen argue that Section 3 is self-executing, meaning that theres no need for any sort of criminal conviction or [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/08/15/trump-ineligible-14th-amendment-unconstitutional-presidency/]action from a legislature[/link] to put it into effect. That would mean, for example, that even though special prosecutor Jack Smith [link=https://www.msnbc.com/deadline-white-house/deadline-legal-blog/full-text-trump-indictment-pdf-jack-smith-jan-6-2020-election-rcna96030]hasnt charged Trump with insurrection-related crimes[/link], officials could still cite the 14th Amendment as a reason to keep him off the ballot.
