Former President Donald [link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.rawstory.com%2Ftrump-news%2F%3Futm_campaign%3DSmartLinks]Trump[/link] suggested on Tuesday that he would violate any gag order preventing him from talking about special counsel Jack Smith’s election interference case against him.
While speaking to a crowd of supporters in Windham, New Hampshire, Trump complained about Smith’s [link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.msnbc.com%2Fdeadline-white-house%2Fdeadline-legal-blog%2Ftrump-protective-order-jack-smith-chutkan-rcna98735]request[/link] for a protective order. “Crooked Joe now wants the thug prosecutor, this deranged guy, to file a court order taking away my First Amendment rights so that I can’t speak,” Trump told the group. “The case is a ridiculous case. It’s a First Amendment case. But we don’t want Trump to speak. So they want me, they take away your rights on First Amendment.”

sure seems like Trump is doing a good job building the prosecution’s case for a full gag order some time in the future. -
[h1]The Case Against Pardoning Trump[/h1]
[link=https://morningshots.thebulwark.com/p/the-churchillian-case-against-a-trump?utm_source=post-email-title&publication_id=87272&post_id=54598785&isFreemail=false&utm_medium=email]Charlie Sykes[/link]:
When President Gerald Ford issued a pardon to outgoing President Richard Nixon, he could reasonably assume that Nixon would go more or less quietly into exile. He was not the avatar of a mass movement that continues to lay siege to democratic institutions.
Trump on the other hand
Does anyone seriously believe that a pardon would disarm Trump, or calm the base into rationality and respect for democratic norms? Does anyone (anyone? anyone?) think that he would as Susan Collins so famously and wrongly claimed learn his lesson?
Would a pardon put a stop to his firehose of demagoguery, invective, abuse, and attacks on the [link=https://politicaldictionary.com/words/deep-state/]deep state[/link] and the criminal justice system? Does anyone seriously think that a pardon would lance the boil of revanchist Trumpism?

Special Counsel Obtained Search Warrant for Trumps Twitter Account:
Prosecutors working for Jack Smith, the special counsel who has twice brought indictments against former President Donald J. Trump, obtained a search warrant early this year for Mr. Trumps long-dormant Twitter account as part of their inquiry into his attempt to overturn the 2020 election, according to court papers unsealed on Wednesday.
The warrant, which was signed by a federal judge in Washington in January after Elon Musk took over Twitter, which is now called X, is the first known example of prosecutors directly searching Mr. Trumps communications and adds a new dimension to the scope of the special counsels efforts to investigate the former president.
The court papers, which emerged from an appeal by Twitter challenging a part of the judges decision to issue the warrant, did not reveal what prosecutors were looking for in Mr. Trumps Twitter account, which the tech company shut down just days after the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Georgia Prosecutor Will Bring More Than 12 Indictments
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to seek more than a dozen indictments when she presents her case regarding efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia before a grand jury next week, CNN reports.
Willis has been eyeing conspiracy and racketeering charges, which would allow her to bring a case against multiple defendants. Her wide-ranging criminal probe focuses on efforts to pressure election officials, the plot to put forward fake electors and a voting systems breach in rural Coffee County, Georgia.
Theyre Coming for Everyone
Three sources who have spoken with prosecutors tell Rolling Stone that they believe that Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis is likely to indict not just Donald Trump, but a number of his associates involved in attempting to overturn the election, as well.
Said one lawyer: It really seems like theyre coming for everyone. Based on what I know, Willis and her team do not seem to be stopping at Donald Trump. The scope for this is probably going to be a hell of a lot wider than thatand round up a significant number of people.

Kyle Cheney live tweeting the Trump protective order hearing –
CHUTKAN: What the defendant is currently doing the fact that hes running a political campaign has to yield to the orderly administration of justice. If that means he cant say exactly what he wants to say about witnesses in this case, thats how it has to be.
LAURO: “My client will abide by the integrity of the process” but he “cant be subject to some kind of contempt trap.”
CHUTKAN says no one is talking about contempt but says Trump’s speech rights must yield to pretrial release conditions and rules against witness intimidation.
[b]LAURO: Govt’s proposed protective order woudl provide political “advantage” to Joe Biden.
I cannot and will not factor into my decision effect on political campaign, she says, “for either side.”
[/b]LAURO: “The risk is that someone can say something in the course of a heated debate or a heated campaign and [prosecutors] are going to throw a flag.” He vows his client will follow precise letter of the court’s order.
CHUTKAN: “I’m glad to hear that.”
CHUTKAN: “The existence of a political campaign is not going to factor into my decision. I intend to keep politics out of this.
….
but ….
CHUTKAN sums up the arguments. “It is close.” “At this point, I’m not persuaded that the government ahs shown good cause to subject to the protective order all the information in this case.” She adopts defense proposal.
CHUTKAN emphasizes Trump is subject to pretrial release conditions, which include bar on harassing or intimidating witnesses. “All his behavior and statements are governed by conditions of release.

The more a party makes inflammatory statements the greater the urgency will be that we proceed to trial quickly to ensure an impartial jury.

Atlanta-area prosecutors investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia are in possession of text messages and emails directly connecting members of Donald Trumps legal team to the early January 2021 voting system breach in Coffee County, sources tell CNN.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is expected to seek charges against more than a dozen individuals when her team presents its case before a grand jury next week. Several individuals involved in the voting systems breach in Coffee County are among those who may face charges in the sprawling criminal probe.
Investigators in the Georgia criminal probe have long suspected the breach was not an organic effort sprung from sympathetic Trump supporters in rural and heavily Republican Coffee County a county Trump won by nearly 70% of the vote. They have gathered evidence indicating it was a top-down push by Trumps team to access sensitive voting software, according to people familiar with the situation.

Trump appears to engage in witness intimidation in the Georgia case – an explicit call for Duncan not to testify.
[link]https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump[/link]
I am reading reports that failed former Lt. Governor of Georgia, Jeff Duncan, will be testifying before the Fulton County Grand Jury. He shouldnt. I barely know him but he was, right from the beginning of this Witch Hunt, a nasty disaster for those looking into the Election Fraud that took place in Georgia. He refused having a Special Session to find out what went on, became very unpopular with Republicans (I refused to endorse him!), and fought the TRUTH all the way. A loser, he went to FNCNN!

[h1][b]Ex-Republican Legal Officials Back Speedy Trial for Trump[/b][/h1]

[link=https://politicalwire.com/2023/08/14/trump-indicted-in-georgia/]Trump Indicted in Georgia[/link][/h2]
Donald Trump was indicted by a Fulton County grand jury [link=https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1691284897812414464]along with 18 others[/link] and charged with conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.
Key line from the [link=https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23909543-23sc188947-criminal-indictment]98-page indictment[/link]: Trump and the other defendants charged in this indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump.
Trump faces [link=https://twitter.com/bluestein/status/1691283045146382336]13 felony charges[/link] himself, including racketeering, conspiracy to commit forgery and filing false documents.
It appears there are also [link=https://twitter.com/kaitlancollins/status/1691286497788334081?s=20]30 unindicted co-conspirators[/link].
[link=https://www.ajc.com/politics/trump-18-others-indicted-for-trying-to-overthrow-2020-georgia-election/PQ3N2YBIDRDJFLJGFLEBZUWM6I/]Atlanta Journal Constitution[/link]: The Georgia case is unique because in addition to Trump, it also charges a cast of supporting players from former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to then White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and former Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer.
[link=https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/08/14/us/trump-indictment-georgia-election/6d3c2cad-0523-5552-bde9-b61f72684714?smid=url-share]New York Times[/link]: Prosecutors describe the criminal enterprise as one that operated not only in Fulton County, Ga., but also in other states, including Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and in the District of Columbia. This underscores the power of a racketeering charge: Ms. Willis did not have to show that all of the acts took place in her jurisdiction.
Others charged-
Rudy Giuliani
John Eastman
Mark Meadows
Kenneth Chesebro
Jeffrey Clark
Jenna Ellis
Ray Smith III
Robert Cheeley
Michael Roman
David Shafer
Shawn Tresher Still
Stephen Lee
Harrison Floyd
Trevian Kutti
Sidney Powell
Cathleen Latham
Scott Hall
Misty HamptonLooks like there are an additional 30 unindicted co-conspirators in the Georgia indictment.

[h1]Trump Will Try to Move Georgia Case to Federal Court[/h1]
[link=https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/08/15/us/trump-indictment-georgia-election]New York Times[/link]: Moving the sprawling racketeering case against him and his allies to federal court would have advantages for Mr. Trump, the most obvious being that the jury pool for a trial would be drawn from a broader area than Fulton County, Ga., the Democratic stronghold where the charges were brought on Monday night.
And it could make it more likely that the U.S. Supreme Court, a third of whose justices are Trump appointees, would ultimately weigh in on where the trial should be held.(when Trump tried to do the same thing in NY it [link=https://www.thedailybeast.com/trumps-bid-to-sink-the-manhattan-da-alvin-braggs-case-has-already-made-it-stronger]didn’t work out so well[/link].)

Trump reportedly won’t pay Jenna Ellis’ legal fees because she’s been supportive of Ron DeSantis.
Look for her to flip early.-
All sorts of fun. Like former WH lawyer Ty Cobb saying whatever his report is will likely end up as evidence against him because it’ll made up and mean to tamper with the jury pool.
Also people like Jim Jordan getting ripped for “it was only legal advice line” forget who posted but the reply was “that’s like saying Ted Kazinski was jailed for using the US Postal Service”-

[b]Trumps Lawyers Tell Him to Cancel Press Conference[/b][/h1]
Donald Trumps promised press conference to refute the allegations in the indictment handed up by the Fulton County District Attorneys Office is now very much in doubt, [link=https://abcnews.go.com/US/trumps-legal-advisers-urge-cancel-press-conference-refute/story?id=102336380&cid=social_twitter_abcn]ABC News[/link] reports.
Sources tell ABC News that Trumps legal advisers have told him that holding such a press conference with dubious claims of voter fraud will only complicate his legal problems and some of his attorneys have advised him to cancel it.-
“”Although Jim Joness followers would later be stereotyped as sinister, brainwashed idiots, the journalist Tim Reiterman argues in his seminal book on the subject that many were decent, hardworking, socially conscious people, some highly educated, who wanted to help their fellow man and serve God, not embrace a self-proclaimed deity on earth.””
