really IMHO the concept of the movie is in poor taste
and they have told theaters that they can drop the movie
who wants to see something like that on Christmas day anyway…unbroken is much more inspiring

I wouldn’t see anything on Christmas day but I thought it looked kind of funny.  It’s not the first time the movies have made fun out of North Korea, see Team America World Police from the Southpark guys.  No one hacked the movie producers for movies like White House Down or the other Olympus Has Fallen.

Can you image the outcry if another county made a movie about assasinating our President (by name)……please the move is inappropriate and goes too far.  White House done and those types of films use fictional presidents, very different.

I’m going to wait for the BlueRay or streaming.  It’s all fiction so I don’t see how this is different.  Or look back and you’ll find North Korea did make some propaganda videos that depict their air force dropping bombs on DC.  No one here is freaking out about that.  Kim Jong Dong Wong needs to take a chill pill.

Anyone or any company afraid to show the movie because mr. bowl cut will pitch a hissy fit is a p****y.    Don’t care if the movie is a piece of crap or worthy or not…  Either we have free speech and free enterprise or we don’t.  Where do you draw the line? If X offends Y, we can’t do Z….   It’s becomes infinite if someone decides to make a threat about anything that annoys them.

Really? A fictional, joke of a movie?   Being taken seriously by the leader of a country?  And the charge would be what? I am bombing you because you made fun of me?  How is this any different than any political cartoon poking fun of any politician, of any party, at any time in history? As one, minute example… Dr. Seuss had a slew of anti Hitler/Mussolini/Hirohito cartoons prior to and during WWII.  Should the newspapers not have printed them because they may have angered Hitler et al,  because they would have “threatened” to attack.  Actually Hitler did more than threaten, there were attacks off of our east coast, not necessarily due to cartoons, but oh, yea, we were actually AT WAR.  We dealt with it, we did not cower to threats from an egomaniac.  We are a sad lot these days, in that it seems we are willing to implode our own freedoms so that we spare a dictator from being offended and having his “widdle feelwings hurted”.

But any movie mocking or possibly pointing out real or fictional aspects of the Catholic Church are ok (Dan brown for instance. And I enjoy his stuff.  But everyone told the church to stuff it for being offended at his “fiction”)  and so on and so on… Youtube videos that call for beheading of George Bush are ok… and so on.   You either like all speech or you don’t.
What “fire” would they be calling out?

So speech you don’t like is verboten?  Remind me again who gets to decide what is inappropriate? What is stupid?  Art critics? law professors? The point is not that the movie is stupid. The point is that it must be allowed.

“emphatic” people indeed.  Perhaps you meant empathetic?  Because certainly they are emphatic about expressing their views.  Which, while I may disagree with, I would never say they have no place….

Noah – you are embarrassing yourself.
So we shouldn’t make any more movies with B class stars?
Jealousy is never attractive.  Seth got 6 million because that’s
what the free market has determined.  I would guess he has
probably made other movies that made 10X that.
There are people you realize that think that the $12 dollars you
get for reading a CXR is way too much.

and yes I do believe I deserve the 12 bucks I would get for reading a chest x-ray/Pax
PS don’t encourage D list actors

Noah, do you really believe all the stuff you post or are you just trying to get other members goat?
I do agree that this movie is likely a pile of cr*p and without all the hype is direct to DVD quality. That said, I dont think this qualifies as a freedom of speech example. Its not the government who is telling us we cant view it (as far as I know), its scaredy cat Sony and movie theatres who have the right to show it or not. There is a long list of contentious movies that people have tried to ban over the years and looking back, the world didnt shake when they were shown. With all the media attention, Seth has probably earned his $6M now.

that picture where they are making fun of Kanye West was pretty funny.  What this really comes down to is that the movie theaters don’t want to get hacked.  Maybe they should hire some better InfoSec people.

What I found interesting is the speculation is that North Korea is responsible for the Sony hack but were most likely provided the technology by China.  The theory behind that is China can see how their cyber war tech works but technically they didn’t do it.

It’s hard to put it past China as they’ll steal any IP and claim it as their own.  Some of there car design rip-offs are pretty blatant, and then the Chinese courts will say they don’t see the resemblance.  There’s probably already people selling bootlegs of this movie in Bejing.

It’s Seth Rogan fer chrissake, & his pal James Franco. It’s not meant to be high (well, maybe high) art. It’s a goof even if uncomfortably so. It’s along the lines of Ali G only with a suit & tie.

Not interested in the move but I am disappointed that Sony caved out of fear of a terrorist threat. Americans caving to terror threats is not exactly what I’d like us to be known for.

I find myself in the odd position of agreeing with Furious. +1, spot on, and all that.

It’s been said that Sony should never have considered making such an insulting movie, criticizing a world leader like this. Of course, some of those same folks are OK with the ChickenSh*t comment, but I digress.

Let’s say Sony in its infinite wisdom had made this comedy about assassinating Netanyahu. I would whine about it, Israel would protest, but you wouldn’t see Sony getting hacked, or threats made to attack innocent movie-goers ala 9/11.  And dare I mention the death threats made to Salman Rushdie and the Danish cartoonist who offended those who are not to be offended? The fallout from this movie is yet another demonstration of what happens when the insane run the asylum.

By the way, I’m glad Noah gets $12 for reading a CXR. Perhaps that is an average figure. We sometimes get less.

Do people really consider Kim Ding Dong a “world leader”?  If anything the country is reclusive and from what I’ve seen the people there are sort of brainwashed into thinking the sun shines out of that family’s rear end.  I actually find Kim and Bibi kind of similar in some ways, but Bibi doesn’t seem as crazy.

North Korea can’t keep the power on at night and their people are kept pretty ignorant.  I suspect their “hacking” is just a proxy that is entirely underwritten and executed by the Chinese.  You all may find this interesting:

Cantor is out of office if you hadn’t noticed.  BUT you would NOT be hearing death threats from Israel, and Sony wouldn’t have been hacked and brought to near-destruction. Just a little, minor difference.

Looks like now the US is officially putting it on the North Koreans.  I read this in the Wash Post but what I find baffling is we know what the originating infrastructure is but we’re not blocking traffic from them.  Mind bottling.  Sony get’s hacked a lot, wonder if anyone there will fall on sword like the Target CIO.

trust me if it had been about Bibi…you have aldi and all the rest screaming anti-Semitism  and Cruz/Rubio/Cantor/ Schumer would all be front row center with their condemnation/ Hollywood would come to a standstill

I’m surprised you didn’t say something about the Jews running Hollywood so that would never happen…

You miss the point completely, which doesn’t surprise me. He11 yes I’d be screaming Anti-Semitism. Cruz and Rubio might also, and Schumer, well, who cares? Cantor is out of office if you hadn’t noticed.  BUT you would NOT be hearing death threats from Israel, and Sony wouldn’t have been hacked and brought to near-destruction. Just a little, minor difference.

looks like a typical goofball response of North Korea.  They want to help investigate, and they’re fully ready to strike the US homeland if we retaliate.  I’m not sure if they realize how silly they sound.

that’s the one thing is it’s hard to prove who actually committed the offense and then what qualifies as an act of war.  I was reading something earlier that now some security experts are even saying the FBI has weak evidence that is was North Korea.  I think the speculation that someone like China probably handed them a hack and are kind of using them as the guinea pig to test it might be true.  As I understand all North Korean internet access goes through China, and China itself cracks down on internet access of it’s own people.

The U.S. Justice Department announced indictments against three North Korean citizens it said were involved in attempts by a key hacking group to extort about $1.3 billion from victims in the banking, financial and crypto-currency world.

The hackers — tied to groups that were behind a 2014 hack of Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. — used phishing messages to try to get victims to download malicious code, the Justice Department said in a statement on Wednesday.

North Korea hackers have become the worlds leading bank robbers, said John Demers, head of the Justice Departments National Security Division, told reporters on a conference call.
