  • Post 9-11 United We Stand?

Post 9-11 the mantra was United We Stand.

Post Trump and the Jan 6 Insurrection, that’s nothing but a joke thanks to Trump & the GQP who are now the anti-democracy party. And Conservatives? What do Conservatives stand for now? The failed coup détat, the failed Reichstag fire of January 6?

What Trump and Republicans have proven is that foreign terrorists were not the national existential threat they were made out to be. The biggest threat to our nation was and remains the Timothy McVeigh’s today, the ones who want to destroy the democratic government of the US.

A sad day for America. Domestic terrorism is our biggest threat, not Islamists.

    [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/10/opinion/trump-republicans-coup.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2…-republicans-coup.html[/link]

What happened at the Capitol on Jan. 6 was not a coup attempt. It was half of a coup attempt the less important half.

The more important part of the coup attempt like legal wrangling in states and the attempts to sabotage the House commissions investigation of Jan. 6 is still going strong. These are not separate and discrete episodes but parts of a unitary phenomenon that, in just about any other country, would be characterized as a failed coup détat.

As the Republican Party tries to make up its mind between wishing away the events of Jan. 6 or celebrating them, one thing should be clear to conservatives estranged from the party: We cant go home again.

In the normal course of democratic politics, people who disagree about one issue can work together when they agree about another. We can fight over taxes or trade policy.

But there isnt really any middle ground on overthrowing the government. And that is what Mr. Trump and his allies were up to in 2020, through both violent and nonviolent means and continue to be up to today.

When it comes to a coup, youre either in or youre out. The Republican Party is leaning pretty strongly toward in. That is going to leave at least some conservatives out and, in all likelihood, permanently out.

Its really quite puzzling how poor your reading comprehension is. Stop trying to tie conservatism to Trump. Your NYT missive didnt even try to do that. In fact it did the exact opposite.

Most conservatives I know did not like Trump. Some voted for him as an alternative to HRC. Many of those voted for Biden. A few held their nose and voted for Trump again. None supported Jan. 6.

This NYT makes a good point that these people have no place in the current Republican Party.

Frumi quotes from the article and then calls out conservatives as complicit and anti democracy.

Its tiring and its not working Frumi. As NR said nice once, it just makes you repulsive to those that want to support democracy from the middle. People will vote against just like they did against HRC. You should give your tribe a break and go sleep it off in your cave. They will thank you for it later.

What he needs to do is stop playing into the extreme rights hands. They love to turn his hatred around. They may be deplorable but their vote counts just as much as his. Work from the middle and we might get somewhere.

Sooooo, you all disagree with me but agree with Kevin Williamson?

Williamson is not exactly a Liberal you know. He is very right wing & writes for NR.

But I guess none of you know that or ignored it or never took the time to read his opinion.

                Typical.

Conservatives. LOL. An empty label. What is a Conservative in the post Trump era.

                  An oxymoron, thats what.

I miss Aldadoc & a few others.  I thought Aldas Conservatism was very far Right but that shows how things change. Even he could not swallow Trump as I recall.

All the Conservatives nowadays cant seem to define Conservatisn outside of owning the Libs. Thats not Conservatism, news for you all.

So to the good old days of Conservatives who had values even as we disagreed.  Hi to Alda  & to a few  others who no longer post in thispost-Trump era. Hope you are well on this 20th 9-11 anniversary.

Republican Party is basically white Nationalist, Q-Anon types, anti science goofs and conspiracy theorists

Moderate Republicans of the past are now independents or democrats

The only people breaking this country apart are the Leftist racists focused on splitting us apart through race identification and victimhood.

Ever been to small town America vs a big city? Yeah one of those places is where everyone is nice and gets along and one of those is the opposite.

The victimhood mentality is not unique to the party that the victim is accusing of claiming victimhood.

I generally think its good for the wealthy political to keep average joe citizens divided. They can keep raking in the $$$$ while everyone else fights about vaccines, CRT, masks, election fraud etc. Nothing positive is happening for average joe. No lower taxes, no new roads, no new airports, new high speed internet, just nothing.
