Please help me ranking these
Posted by kaspianmartin236_76 on November 7, 2021 at 5:56 amPlease help ranking for diagnostic radiology residency (location and rent/price are not my parameters). Want to do a fellowship after my residency -not decided about specific fellowship, then work in private practice for years before probably joining academics:
Boston, Brown, Florida, Jefferson, Maryland, Mayo (MN), Wake Forest, Wisconsinvuonganhhmuk112_783 replied 3 years, 1 month ago 6 Members · 14 Replies -

Reputation wise, Mayo is above the rest. Jefferson, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, and Maryland would roughly be the next tier followed by the rest not too far behind. If you care about rep, rank them in about that order.
Ultimately, youll get good training at all of these. Unsolicited advice: location matters. Training is harder than you think it will be (even radiology), choose somewhere where you can enjoy your time away from the hospital and within a reasonable distance from your support system.

Thank you! I am from GA and spent all my life there until now. Therefore, I said location is not an issue, as none of these places (except Florida) is close and I have no family connections anywhere else. I am single. If location is also considered and Florida is excluded, could you provide your ranking? E.g., Bostons close proximity to major research centers such as Harvard, or cold weather in MN. Whether Browns Ivy League status matters much in long run in my career?

It would be meaningless for someone else to rank programs for you other than the rough reputation categories given above.
Do you like the cold? Are you a city person? Do you take more stock in having a brand name residency program that your grandma will recognize or would you rather go somewhere lesser known but arguably more regarded in the rads world (e.g. Wake or Wisconsin)?
These are just some factors to consider when ranking programs.

Thanks again for the previous input. Could someone help me how the DR residency at Boston University and Brown University?

All great programs. I would factor in the weather and the cities much more than you think. Lived in GA all your life? I suspect you will hate the cold- a bone chilling, life-sucking force that will dramatically diminish the quality of your limited time out of hospital (my opinion only!!!). Wisconsin, Boston, MN- thats cold on a whole new level. Philly is probably too cold!
Also the cities. Philly and Providence RI maybe not quite as nice as Winston-Salem (my opinion only!!!!),
Obviously some tongue in cheek here, but all of those programs will set you up for a great career, none will hold you back. On that list, Id pick Wake.-

Weather is a good point. If you are not used to the cold and winter then being in a relatively more isolated place (like Rochester MN or even Madison) may be difficult. At least in a place like Boston there are a lot of people. Depends on how much you like the city life.
Mayo is the best name on the list but the location is not for everyone. Wisconsin, Jefferson, Maryland and probably Wake are also very solid. Region matters for fellowship (less so) and jobs. If you want to end up in the south at all, Wake and maybe Florida/Maryland would be the best for networking. PP especially relies on regional networking. You could probably end up doing a fellowship at Emory or Duke from any of these places but residency connections are 4 years vs 1 year from fellowship where you are looking for jobs halfway through.
All food for thought. The culture of the program matters a lot too. I think most programs you listed are solid and you will have plenty of opportunities.-
