She’s smarter than Trump but you can say that about most people.
I think she’s definitely shown some masterful shade. “I don’t think the President would be that petty, do you”. Or something like that. That’s an all time back hand.-
It’s not just a matter of being smarter than Trump being easy, she kept the Democratic caucus together in single united opposition, something she’s done before.
Trump was betting that like the Republican House before, the Democratic House would be malleable to his whims.-

say what you want but she’s been eating Trump’s lunch.
There’s nothing about Trump that seems great. He likes to tell you he’s great but actions speak louder than words. 2 out of 2 Donald Trumps agree that Donald Trump is the greatest ever. He’s the best golfer, he know how to make deals, he knows the most about drones, he could’ve been a General.-

Lol reasonable. Yup I’m sure she got to her level of achievement by being reasonable. How can you possibly say that?
I would say one of the most sure things you could say about anyone who ascends to elite political standing that they are not reasonable. These are among the least agreeable people in the world.

Not sure what your beef with Pelosi other than she is a woman, accomplished, experienced & gets the job done. She is magnitudes more capable and competent than any of the House Republicans have been. She is very reasonable believing in compromise but she is a highly competent fighter as Republicans have known for years now.

The Right creating manipulated videos of Pelosi slowed down to 75% speed to make her appear drunk or worse.
If the truth is embarrassing, alter the truth.
[link]https://wapo.st/2Wp7q59[/link]
[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/05/23/faked-pelosi-videos-slowed-make-her-appear-drunk-spread-across-social-media]https://www.washingtonpos…ad-across-social-media[/link]
Distorted videos of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), altered to make her sound as if shes drunkenly slurring her words, are spreading rapidly across social media, highlighting how political disinformation that clouds public understanding can now grow at the speed of the Web.
The video of Pelosis [link=https://www.c-span.org/video/?460960-1/speaker-pelosi-center-american-progress-ideas-conference]onstage speech[/link] Wednesday at a Center for American Progress event, in which she said President Trumps refusal to cooperate with congressional investigations was tantamount to a coverup,” was subtly edited to make her voice sound garbled and warped. It was then circulated widely across Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
[link=https://www.facebook.com/PoliticsWatchDog/videos/409823189602380/]One version[/link], posted by the conservative Facebook page Politics WatchDog, had been viewed more than 2 million times by Thursday night, been shared more than 45,000 times, and garnered 23,000 comments with users calling her drunk and a babbling mess.
Rudolph W. Giuliani, Trumps personal attorney, [link=https://twitter.com/aaronblake/status/1131734771518910465?s=21]tweeted a link[/link] to the altered video Thursday night with the note, What is wrong with Nancy Pelosi? Her speech pattern is bizarre.
On Thursday night, Trump tweeted a [link=https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1131728912835383300]separate video[/link] of Pelosi a selectively edited supercut, taken from Fox News, focused on moments where she briefly paused or stumbled that he claimed showed her stammering through a news conference. The clip included roughly 30 seconds of Pelosis [link=https://www.c-span.org/video/?461025-1/speaker-pelosi-calls-president-trump-master-distraction]full 21-minute briefing[/link] on Thursday, in which she took questions from reporters and discussed what she called Trumps temper tantrum.
Analyses of the distorted Center for American Progress video by Washington Post journalists and outside researchers indicate that the video has been slowed to about 75 percent of its original speed. To possibly correct for how that speed change would deepen her tone, the video also appears to have been altered to modify her pitch, to more closely resemble the sound of her natural speech.
Pelosis voice was distorted in a separate YouTube [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXY3vEsQm3g]video[/link], posted earlier this month by a conservative channel with more than 28 million total views. That video slowed a speech Pelosi had given to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association to make her words sound notably slurred. That video appeared to be a version of [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m1Zvbs7MQ4]another video[/link] with roughly 200,000 views, in which a man laughed over of a spliced montage of her speech. The [link=https://newsline.artba.org/2019/05/16/artba-newsline-podcast-for-may-16-2019-with-nancy-pelosi/?utm_source=ARTBA+Members&utm_campaign=ebd32b67bb-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_05_16_08_57&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b957ce48dc-ebd32b67bb-165439009&mc_cid=ebd32b67bb&mc_eid=ce479006f9]original audio[/link] shows no such distortion.
Pelosi has been the target of similar efforts before. A [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bximGbdm5Mk&feature=youtu.be]video[/link] last year from The Next News Network, a conservative YouTube channel with more than 1 million subscribers, said Pelosi was fumbling her speech because she was drunk or pretty sick.” The channels owner did not respond to requests for comment.Ixrayu’s concern about being manipulated by the media seems to happen almost exclusively from one side of the political aisle.
Can’t say I’ve heard about any manipulated videos from Right-wing sites of Trump appearing stupid. I guess because he does all that work himself, not needing assistance from Democratic propagandists.
Right-wingers are being owned by their own faked propaganda. -

I don’t find her cold at all but she is very capable of serving that coup de grâce as a cold dish.
She is probably the most capable person outside of McConnell in Congress. -
That’s one thing that drives me nuts about how Congress runs. You can have party leaders or whatever but no one person should have power to flat out stop the legislature. Like not hearing Merrick Garland, or not bringing bills to the floor. It’s like we elect people to vote on stuff and send it forth to the POTUS.
-
Some elect people to make sure things don’t happen. Compromise is evil according to these voters. If their agenda can’t get done with no compromise then they want their elected to stop everything and never any bi-partisan agreements that could lead to the other side claiming success in anything.
That’s been McConnell’s playbook since December 2008. And he is popular with his constituents for it. -

Nancy Pelosi may be the most powerful congressional leader in modern U.S. history.”
In the 22 months since shes returned to the speakers chair an enormous achievement in itself Pelosi has centralized power in an unprecedented way. Its due not just to her own maneuvering, but to a variety of circumstances: a chaotic president, a paralyzed Senate, and a national health emergency thats spurred the most serious economic crisis in decades.
For many Democrats, Pelosi is the face of the resistance to President Donald Trump. From clashes over government shutdowns to impeachment to yelling matches in the White House and publicly tearing up a copy of his State of the Union address, Pelosi has been Trumps chief antagonist. There have been acrimonious relationships between presidents and House speakers before, but never one so public or so bitter. Its been over a year since the two have spoken.

[link=https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/04/house-lookahead-pelosi-leaders-454902]Politico[/link]: The dynamic could turn awkward over the next two years as younger members begin maneuvering to seize their shot at the top while trying not to alienate the leader they all want to replace. Pelosi still hasnt definitively said this is her last term but has signaled as much, and is eager to seal her legacy without losing any leverage. -
some of these people are too old including Nancy, or Diane Feinstein. She barely won it this time. Some dems voted for Hakeem Nicks.

The GOP celebrates violence. The attraction of 2nd Amendment solutions.
[link=https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/10/pelosi-republicans-partisan-political-violence/671934/]https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/10/pelosi-republicans-partisan-political-violence/671934/[/link]But if both Republicans and Democrats, left and right, [i]suffer[/i] political violence, the same cannot be said of those who [i]celebrate[/i] political violence. Thats not a both sides affair in 2020s America.
You dont see Democratic House members wielding weapons in videos and threatening to shoot candidates who want to cut capital-gains taxes or slow the growth of Medicare. Democratic candidates for Senate do not post video fantasies of hunting and executing political rivals, or of using a firearm to discipline their childrens romantic partners. Its not because of Democratic members that Speaker Nancy Pelosi [link=https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewsolender/2021/06/17/pelosi-says-house-metal-detectors-will-remain-indefinitely/]installed[/link] metal detectors to bar firearms from the floor of the House. No Democratic equivalent exists of Donald Trump, who regularly praises and encourages violence as a normal tool of politics, most recently against his own partys Senate leader, Mitch McConnell. As the formerly Trump-leaning [i]Wall Street Journal[/i] [link=https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-death-wish-rhetoric-mitch-mcconnell-elaine-chao-truth-social-violence-donald-11664735710]editorialized[/link]on October 2: Its all too easy to imagine some fanatic taking Mr. Trump seriously and literally, and attempting to kill Mr. McConnell. Many supporters took Mr. Trumps rhetoric about former Vice President [link=https://www.wsj.com/topics/person/mike-pence]Mike Pence[/link]all too seriously on Jan. 6.
The January 6 insurrection is the overhanging fact above all this rhetoric of political violence. That was the day when Trumps ally Rudy Giuliani [link=https://twitter.com/Walldo/status/1346847469276168198]urged[/link], Lets have trial by combatand thousands heeded and complied. That terrible day, incited by President Trump and organized by Trump supporters, should have chastened American politics for a generation. It did not. Armed and masked vigilantes [link=https://www.azmirror.com/2022/10/28/drop-boxes-watchers-in-arizona-connected-to-national-effort-from-2000-mules-creators/]are intimidating[/link] voters right now in Arizona and other states, inspired by Trumps continued election lies, as amplified by his supporters to this very day.
Paul Pelosi is the latest to pay a blood price for the cult of violence. -
I’m interested to learn more about the evolution of the attacker. The pathway from hippie to Qanon adherent to right-wing violence seems to be “a thing” now.
The unstable folks who believe in crystal therapy and astrology are likely suggestable enough to conspiracy theories to buy in to “Democrat elites are feasting on the blood of children” and “stop the steal” rhetoric.
It’s not to far along the political mobius strip from one to the other.
-
I really doubt its the crystal & astrology believers who resort to violence. You ever talk to them or visit a store? Most unlikely place to find a TRUMP! or STOP THE STEAL banners & memorabilia in my experience.
-
I’m not saying the guy selling crystals at burning man walks right down the street and attacks Pelosi …
I’m saying that we shouldn’t be surprised that some subset of unstable people who previously found a home in the magical thinking far left get drawn to the conspiratorial right when exposed to that ideology. -
There are plenty of people that understand what are you are saying and would like to join in that nuanced discussion dergon. Its a shame you have to explain yourself.
However, there are others that are afraid of nuance because it might upset their one side is worse argument.
This is the reality of attempts at truly interesting discussion in this forum. Cheers to those that try. -

Alleged Paul Pelosi attacker posted multiple conspiracy theories:
Last year, David DePape posted links on his Facebook page to multiple videos produced by My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell falsely alleging that the 2020 election was stolen. Other posts included transphobic images and linked to websites claiming Covid vaccines were deadly. The death rates being promoted are what ever THEY want to be promoted as the death rate, one post read.
DePape also posted links to YouTube videos with titles like Democrat FARCE Commission to Investigate January 6th Capitol Riot COLLAPSES in Congress!!! and Global Elites Plan To Take Control Of YOUR Money! (Revealed)
Two days after former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of killing George Floyd, DePape wrote that the trial was a modern lynching, falsely indicating that Floyd died of a drug overdose.
He also posted content about the Great Reset the sprawling conspiracy theory that global elites are using coronavirus to usher in a new world order in which they gain more power and oppress the masses. And he complained that politicians making promises to try to win votes are offering you bribes in exchange for your further enslavement.

Because so far the story doesn’t make a lick of sense.
1. We are supposed to believe that the #2 in the presidential line of succession lives in a house that:
– lacks any kind of physical security like laminated glass windows and has a patio door door you can shimmy open like in a mid century rambler.
– lacks intrusion detection, panic buttons and actively monitored video surveillance.
– lacks 24/7 on site security presence (not her detail but a rent a cop who makes sure that nobody plants a bomb in her house in her absence)
2. We are supposed to believe that a man worth 100+mil lives in a house that:
– lacks any kind of physical security like laminated glass windows and has a patio door door you can shimmy open like in a mid century rambler.
– lacks intrusion detection, panic buttons and actively monitored video surveillance.
3. The bizarre sequence of events as released by SFPD
– Paul Pelosi didn’t call ‘there is a burglar in my house I am hiding in the bathroom’. No, he called after he ‘managed to go to the bathroom’….
– This is the official version of what happened: [i]Officers arrived at the Pelosi residence at 2:27 a.m. Scott said they knocked on the door and the door was opened by “someone inside.” Officers saw Mr. Pelosi and an adult male, who police have identified as 42-year-old David Depape, “both holding a hammer.[/i]
[i]The suspect, who broke into the home using a rear door “pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it.”[/i]
[i]”Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup, and rendered medical aid,” Scott said, adding both Depape and Pelosi were transported to a local hospital for treatment.[/i]
[i]”[/i] So Paul Pelosi wasn’t actually attacked until the police was present ?
– The Pelosis are a high risk high profile location in that beat and somehow this was handled as a ‘check on the welfare of’ call ?
That’s why I am curious. -
Thanks fw. Those are curiosities for sure. Shows how we have to rely on reporting and personal experience to make sense of these things. Reoprting is becoming more and more suspect and few have personal experience in those circles.
“2. We are supposed to believe that a man worth 100+mil lives in a house that:

I have personal experience with this one. I know the Pelosi’s neighborhood and many of their neighbors. I know other neighborhoods like theirs in the Bay Area. These people have been there 50 years plus and raised families while never having to lock doors or have much in the way of security. Old habits die hard.
I thought perhaps you were going to mention the crime situation in S.F. and how this plays into it. That’s a curiosity as well.

Well, we clearly need to defund the police. Because if there is something that was needed that morning, it was another social worker.
But yeah, SF is a hive of scum and villany. It doesn’t appear that the cops thought ‘violent home invasion’ when ‘someone’ let them into the Pelosi pad and they encountered two naked men grappling over a prop.
-
Ok, but whats your scenario, fw? A staged event that actually landed Pelosi in the hospital with a skull fx? Are the docs in on the fraud?
Have all Speakers traditionally had armed guards & security for family members? I dont think so.
Some parts seem odd but then I recall odd things about the Kennedy assassination too that proved nothing.
Well see. -
The Speaker of the House is *not* a secret service protectee
And yes, that’s their SF. They have a 32 sq ft place in SF worth about $7 mil. (As well as a ranch in Napa and DC condo.)
And no, it’s not surprising to me that they live like “normal” rich people. Lots and lots of very wealth people who like living urban want to do so so they can live a normal life and be out and about with people and feel the action. -
fw I was going to ask about the part you edited out. Care to discuss? It had to do with “MAGA” and McCarthy. I thought you were on to something.

Fringe benefit? Good gig regardless of where one falls on the spectrum -
As many Congressmen have long said, at least 1/2 of work is raising money. With job description like that it would be highly unusual for anyone to get out poor. But there has been little to no public support to reduce money & its influence despite complaining about affluent politicians. Consider, it they are not affluent, they are stupid. And I am not talking corruption.

Based on all available legit info thus far –
This was an attempted attack on [i]Nancy[/i] Pelosi. [i]Paul[/i] Pelosi was a bystander and collateral damage.
It is *likely* that it was a politically motivated attempted attack given that the intruder was chanting “Where’s Nancy?” a la the Jan 6th insurrectionists and had zip ties a la the Jan 6th insurrectionists.
-
What is almost as bad as a physical violent attack on a Democrat long targeted by right-wing media as evil?
Repeating the Alex Jones – Sandy Hook stratagem of denying an attack even took place and was staged for the conspiracy believers who have difficulty discerning reality from fantasy as they are led by their noses by right-wing media. Or trolls like Elon – Its all a joke.
[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/30/paul-pelosi-attack-misinformation-elon-musk/]https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/30/paul-pelosi-attack-misinformation-elon-musk/[/link]
Elon Musk and a wide range of right-wing personalities cobbled together misreporting, innuendo and outright falsehoods to amplify misinformation about last weeks violent assault on Paul Pelosi to their millions of online followers.
A forum devoted to former White House adviser Stephen K. Bannons right-wing radio show alerted its 78,000 subscribers to very strange new details on Paul Pelosi attack. Roger Stone, a longtime political consigliere to former president Donald Trump, took to the fast-growing messaging app Telegram to call the assault on House Speaker Nancy Pelosis husband an alleged attack, telling his followers that a stench surrounded mainstream reporting about the Friday break-in that left Pelosi, 82, hospitalized [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/29/paul-pelosi-attack-david-depape/?itid=lk_inline_manual_4]with a skull fracture[/link] and other serious injuries.
The skepticism didnt stay in right-wing echo chambers but seeped also into the feeds of popular online personalities, including Musk, Twitters new owner.
The rush to sow doubt about the assault on Pelosis husband illustrates how aggressively influential figures on the right are seeking to dissuade the public from believing facts about the violence, seizing on the event to promote conspiracy theories and provoke distrust. The House speaker has long been a [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/29/paul-pelosi-attack-republicans-target/?itid=lk_inline_manual_9]bugbear for the right[/link], which has intensified its rhetorical blitz on her in recent years even as extreme threats against members of Congress have increased.
[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/29/paul-pelosi-attack-republicans-target/?itid=lk_interstitial_manual_10]Attack on Nancy Pelosis husband follows years of GOP demonizing her[/link]
These merchants of misinformation, said Carl Cameron, a former longtime Fox News political correspondent, deceive their massive audiences using rumors and lies about everything from the integrity of [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/?itid=lk_inline_manual_11]election[/link]s to the details of a police report.
They are creating a dystopia wherein lying and physical violence become part of our politics, he said.
Dinesh DSouza, whose recent film [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/05/11/2000-mules-offers-least-convincing-election-fraud-theory-yet/?itid=lk_inline_manual_15]2000 Mules[/link] burnished his right-wing bona fides by pushing Trumps debunked claims of widespread voter fraud, aired falsehoods and innuendo in a viral Twitter thread suggesting the attack on Paul Pelosi was a form of intentional misrepresentation sometimes referred to as a false flag.

I’m surprised this stuff hasn’t been put to a stop. If someone can walk around with their finger by the trigger what’s to stop someone else from shooting them? It’s bad behavior and I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point it doesn’t turn into open bloodletting. Fitting I guess the OK Corral is in AZ.

The legit info actually indicates that this was your general purpose drug addicted, psychotic, nudist Berkeley loon who lived in a school bus with BLM flag and made a living selling hemp bracelets. This week, he appears to be on the MAGA train, next week it could have been back to Bernie. -

Yes, they’re all nuttier than fruitcakes but they are triggered by the right-wingnut and conspiracy disinformation media. Seems to be a paucity of left-wingnut violence by people believing crazy stuff.
Why oh why doesn’t MSNBC or CNN or NPR or Newshour or NYTimes or WashPo, etc motivate similar actions?
Seems to be a mystery. -

Violence is unacceptable whether from the left or right, period. But we cant allow GOP leaders to get away with this false moral equivalency. They are evading their responsibility for their extremist rhetoric that all too often motivates extremist actions.
The New America think tank [link=https://www.newamerica.org/international-security/reports/terrorism-in-america/what-is-the-threat-to-the-united-states-today/]found[/link] last year that, since Sept. 11, 2001, far-right terrorists had killed 122 people in the United States, compared with only one killed by far-leftists. A study from the [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/interactive/2021/domestic-terrorism-data/?itid=lk_inline_manual_14]Center for Strategic and International Studies[/link] last year found that, since 2015, right-wing extremists had been involved in 267 plots or attacks, compared with 66 for left-wing extremists. A Washington Post-University of Maryland [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/01/01/1-3-americans-say-violence-against-government-can-be-justified-citing-fears-political-schism-pandemic/?itid=lk_inline_manual_14]survey[/link] released in January found that 40 percent of Republicans said violence against the government can be justified, compared with only 23 percent of Democrats.
There is little doubt about what is driving political violence: the ascendance of Trump. The former president and his followers use violent rhetoric of extremes: Trump calls President Biden an [link=https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3631381-the-memo-trump-amps-up-belligerent-rhetoric-as-threat-of-violence-rises/]enemy of the state[/link], attacks the FBI as [link=https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/sep/11/trump-mar-a-lago-witch-hunt-fbi-doj-safety]monsters[/link], refers to the [link=https://twitter.com/billkristol/status/1586530778397409281?s=43&t=oUvxwmxdxORAoWFiF5Jv3A]now Communist USA[/link] and even [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/01/trump-mcconnell-death-wish/?itid=lk_inline_manual_15]wrote[/link] that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has a DEATH WISH for disagreeing with him. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/29/paul-pelosi-attack-republicans-target/?itid=lk_inline_manual_15]expressed support[/link] for executing Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Tex.) has [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/22/us/politics/republican-election-objectors-rhetoric.html]tweeted[/link]that the America Last Marxists are radically and systematically DESTROYING our country.
That type of extremist rhetoric used to be confined to fringe organizations such as the John Birch Society. Now its the GOP mainstream, with predictable consequences. The U.S. Capitol Police [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/01/us/politics/violent-threats-lawmakers.html]report[/link] that threats against members of Congress have risen more than tenfold since Trumps election in 2016, up to 9,625 last year.
The sickness on the right was on display after news broke about the attack on Paul Pelosi. While leading Republicans [link=https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3710857-gop-gives-mixed-messages-on-paul-pelosi-attack/]condemned[/link] the horrific assault, the MAGA base seethed with [link=https://twitter.com/mattmfm/status/1586412029933649921?s=20&t=lcUCTGxmqsFB8vEdP2ft5g]sick jokes[/link] making light of the violence and insane conspiracy theories. The Speaker of the House is *not* a secret service protectee

The comment is the starkest indication yet that Pelosi is mulling another run for the position she’s held variably as speaker and minority leader for nearly two decades.

Thinking about heading over to Pelosi C—s speech and putting a bullet in her noggin on Live TV, it read, according to authorities, followed by a purple devil emoji.
Meredith planned to drive from Colorado to Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 to attend rallies in support of then-[link=https://thehill.com/people/donald-trump]President Trump[/link] and his claims that the 2020 election was stolen, but arrived in the nations capital too late because of car troubles, according to [link=https://www.justice.gov/opa/page/file/1353311/download]court documents[/link]. He had a Tavor X95 rifle, a Glock 9mm handgun and roughly 2,500 rounds of ammunition with him, officials said.
Prosecutors agreed to drop the three weapons charges when Meredith pleaded guilty to one count of interstate communication of threats.
Merediths sentencing is set for Dec. 14. He faces up to 24 months in prison, according to [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/legal-issues/pelosi-threat-guilty-plea/2021/09/10/e43066ae-1262-11ec-bc8a-8d9a5b534194_story.html]The Washington Post[/link]. The final sentences will reportedly depend on if the judge believes there is evidence bolstering the belief that Meredith could have carried out his threat.

How does everyone feel here about how Pelosi handled Dick Cheney? I have read some who found her remiss in her softness.
My sense is she understands how to interact with this bunch because she learns from her husband Paul. He is in a unique position to be able to interact with a group of Republicans and Democrats in a spirit of fellowship that has the power to make a difference. They both know it’s best to develop friendly relationships with everyone. It’s easier to be a leader that way.-

Nothing. I have read from some that she is wrong to show any kindness because he is so evil. I’m glad you don’t agree.-
I will share some quotes in the comments of the most recent Dowd opinion:
“Maureen Dowd wrote: His erstwhile critic Nancy Pelosi warmly shook hands with Vice, and a cluster of Democrats waited to kiss his ring.”
Flambeau:
“I didnt see any ring kissing, I rather think the Democrats, who have shown themselves to be more decent, graciously sought to let Darth Vader without the helmet this time, know that they appreciated his presence, contrasting the absence of the members of his party who now side with the violent mob over the professional police force that saved their skins on that day. Whatever Vice is responsible for that is abhorrent, it is important to be able to adjust to a moment like this and allow a shred of decency to shine through. At least you can say hes a good father who loves his daughter.”
“I agree with Flambeau: No ring kissing. What I saw were some sorely aggrieved people extending decency to someone who was willing to behave decently when most of his erswhile party has refused to. I saw a man who — in spite of, or along with, all the things I still disapprove of him for — raised a daughter with enough grit to face down a President and a party of violent lunatics. I saw a man who was willing to walk into what he might be excused for thinking would be unfriendly territory, to support said daughter. Maybe the man has a heart, after all; I should find my own to give him credit.”

[b]Pelosis PAC Reserves $100 Million In Advertising Time[/b][/h1]
A super political action committee affiliated with Speaker Nancy Pelosi has reserved almost $102 million in advertising time in an attempt to defend Democrats narrow five-seat majority in the House of Representatives, [link=https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-03-30/pelosi-pac-reserves-102-million-in-ads-in-effort-to-keep-house]Bloomberg[/link] reports.

[h1][b]Could Pelosi Stay?[/b][/h1]
[link=https://punchbowl.news/archive/82622-punchbowl-news-am/]Punchbowl News[/link]: The prevailing wisdom throughout the 117th Congress has been that if House Democrats lost their majority, the Big Three would be replaced in the leadership, ending their generation-long run atop the Democratic hierarchy. Pelosi and Hoyer have been the No. 1 and No. 2 for House Democrats for nearly 20 years. Clyburn joined the triumvirate after the 2006 election.
But what if Democrats dont lose the House, certainly a possibility now in a rapidly changing political landscape, although admittedly a small one?
Or more realistically, what if Democratic losses are at the lower end of projections, say between 10 and 20 seats? In this scenario, Democrats would still lose their majority, but what would that mean for Pelosi-Hoyer-Clyburn, all three of whom are now in their 80s? Would they stick around for the presidential election in 2024, hoping to win the House back? How would this impact younger Democrats who have been positioning themselves to take over next year?

[b]Video Undermines Trumps Efforts to Blame Pelosi[/b][/h1]
Never-before-seen video of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other congressional leaders on Jan. 6, 2021, offers strikingly vivid evidence undermining former president Donald Trumps long-debunked claim that the failure to adequately protect the Capitol from a pro-Trump mob lay not with him but with Pelosi, the [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/10/14/trump-jan-6-pelosi-video/]Washington Post[/link] reports.
In the video shown Thursday by the House committee investigating the attack, Pelosi is on the phone pleading with Trump administration officials for help to stop the violence and secure the Capitol as U.S. Capitol Police were overmatched by the hundreds of rioters storming the building including some who demanded her head. Getting nowhere with the officials, she reaches out to Virginias governor and says she will contact the D.C. mayor.
Throughout the video, Pelosi is intent on resuming the congressional process of counting the electoral college votes for Joe Bidens win while showing the nation that the government was still functioning despite the siege.-
It also undermines Steve Scalese whos been lying his arse off in front of cameras.

In a Mirandized and recorded interview of DEPAPE by San Francisco Police Department Officers, DEPAPE provided the following information:
a. DEPAPE stated that he was going to hold Nancy hostage and talk to her. If Nancy were to tell DEPAPE the truth, he would let her go, and if she lied, he was going to break her kneecaps. DEPAPE was certain that Nancy would not have told the truth. In the course of the interview, DEPAPE articulated he viewed Nancy as the leader of the pack of lies told by the Democratic Party. DEPAPE also later explained that by breaking Nancys kneecaps, she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other Members of Congress there were consequences to actions. DEPAPE also explained generally that he wanted to use Nancy to lure another individual to DEPAPE.
b. DEPAPE stated that he broke into the house through a glass door, which was a difficult task that required the use of a hammer. DEPAPE stated that Pelosi was in bed and appeared surprised by DEPAPE. DEPAPE told Pelosi to wake up. DEPAPE told Pelosi that he was looking for Nancy. Pelosi responded that she was not present. Pelosi asked how they could resolve the situation, and what DEPAPE wanted to do. DEPAPE stated he wanted to tie Pelosi up so that DEPAPE could go to sleep as he was tired from having had to carry a backpack to the Pelosi residence. Around this time, according to DEPAPE, DEPAPE started taking out twist ties from his pocket so that he could restrain Pelosi. Pelosi moved towards another part of the house, but DEPAPE stopped him and together they went back into the bedroom.
c. While talking with each other, Pelosi went into a bathroom, where Pelosi grabbed a phone to call 9-1-1. DEPAPE stated he felt like Pelosis actions compelled him to respond.
d. DEPAPE remembered thinking that there was no way the police were going to forget about the phone call.[b] DEPAPE explained that he did not leave after Pelosis call to 9-1-1 because, much like the American founding fathers with the British, he was fighting against tyranny without the option of surrender.[/b] DEPAPE reiterated this sentiment elsewhere in the interview.
e. DEPAPE stated that they went downstairs to the front door. The police arrived and knocked on the door, and Pelosi ran over and opened it. Pelosi grabbed onto DEPAPEs hammer, which was in DEPAPEs hand. At this point in the interview, DEPAPE repeated that DEPAPE did not plan to surrender and that he would go through Pelosi.
f. DEPAPE stated that he pulled the hammer away from Pelosi and swung the hammer towards Pelosi. DEPAPE explained that Pelosis actions resulted in Pelosi taking the punishment instead.

[h2][link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/11/01/capitol-police-cameras-caught-break-in-pelosi-home-no-one-was-watching/]Capitol Police cameras caught break-in at Pelosis S.F. home, but no one was watching[/link][/h2]
Inside the command center for the U.S. Capitol Police, a handful of officers were going through their routines early Friday morning, cycling through live feeds from the departments 1,800 cameras used to monitor the nearby Capitol complex as well as some points beyond, when an officer stopped. On a screen showing a darkened street nearly 3,000 miles away, police lights were flashing outside the home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), officials say.
The officer in D.C. quickly pulled up additional camera angles from around Pelosis home and began to backtrack, watching recordings from the minutes before San Francisco police arrived. There, on camera, was a man with a hammer, breaking a glass panel and entering the speakers home, according to three people familiar with how Capitol Police learned of the break-in and who have been briefed on or viewed the video themselves.…
The Capitol Police first installed cameras around Pelosis home more than eight years ago; she has an around-the-clock security detail; and for many months after [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2021/jan-6-insurrection-capitol/?itid=lk_inline_manual_11]the attacks of Jan. 6, 2021[/link], a San Francisco police cruiser sat outside her home day and night. But hours after Pelosi left San Francisco last week and returned to D.C., much of the security left with her, and officers in Washington stopped continuously monitoring video feeds outside her house.[/QUOTE]

Quote from Thread Killer
Helps with a lot of the curiosities. Thanks.
In the end, the “curiosities” weren’t particularly curious at all.
They were manufactured out of whole cloth for 2 reasons.
1) It was comfortable and expedient for the Right to avoid the reality that this was an act of pollical violence by a Right Wing nut job who was mouthing nearly word for word the rhetoric of the Jan 6 insurrection.
2) To the right, the curious story *feels* like it *should* be true. After decades of anti-Pelosi attacks, it *should* be the case that her husband is a closeted gay man who is looking for drug-addled prostitutes in the middle of night. It *should* be true that he is a depraved San Francisco elite liberal who doesn’t share our values. And when a person is that kind of pervert like Paul Pelosi, well, “you get what’s coming to you.”
But of course, that entire narrative was complete and total bullsh*t.
-
And now we find Pelosi’s attacker was an illegal.
Illegal Canadian.
Blame Canada. -
It feels like youre explaining the joke dergon.
We all knew what fw was getting at.
One thing I find interesting about this whole story. Paul is buddies with a lot of powerful republicans and probably has a lot of the same views that fw does.

What did Jonathan Swift say?
Falsehood flies and the truth comes limping after it, so that when Men come to be undeceivd, it is too late; the Jest is over, and the Tale has had its Effect
[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/11/02/paul-pelosi-attack-david-depape-gop-authoritarian/]https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/11/02/paul-pelosi-attack-david-depape-gop-authoritarian/[/link]
This is partly because the falsehoods have spread wildly through a right-wing media ecosystem that has been constructed to be impervious to outside challenge, as [link=https://www.mediamatters.org/fake-news/right-wing-ecosystem-created-paul-pelosi-conspiracy-theory]Matt Gertz details at Media Matters[/link].
But its also because the whole point of all the lying is to assert the power to manufacture an alternate story [i]in the face[/i] of easily demonstrable facts and outraged condemnation and, importantly, to assert that power unabashedly and defiantly.
I cant prove this is whats driving the response. But prominent right-wing personalities have [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/11/01/paul-pelosi-conspiracy-theories-debunked/?itid=lk_inline_manual_18]blithely asserted[/link] that the media is spreading misinformation about the attack, [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/30/paul-pelosi-attack-misinformation-elon-musk/?itid=lk_inline_manual_18]trumped up[/link] absurd false flag theories about it, spewed [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/11/01/paul-pelosi-attack-youngkin-lake/?itid=lk_inline_manual_18]truly vicious mockery[/link] and even [link=https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1587440620062359552]turned[/link] the hammer into an online meme.
Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a New York University professor who [link=https://www.amazon.com/Strongmen-Mussolini-Present-Ruth-Ben-Ghiat-ebook/dp/B08BVZMDWW/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=ruth+ben-ghiat&qid=1667399068&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjc5IiwicXNhIjoiMi40NSIsInFzcCI6IjIuNTEifQ%3D%3D&s=books&sprefix=ruth+ben%2Cstripbooks%2C125&sr=1-1]studies authoritarian systems[/link], sees this as the latest example of autocratic political culture taking over parts of the GOP and the right.
The ability to assert a false reality in the face of empirical evidence is itself an act of power, Ben-Ghiat tells me. Those on the right pushing this line, she says, are placing themselves above the truth and above democratic custom.
At the core of this politics, says Ben-Ghiat, is the flaunting of the ability to get away with it, whether the it is serial lying, the abandonment of basic norms, or even deliberate cruelty to a longtime colleague and member of the political opposition.

I am waiting for next week and not just my concern that the Democrats will be routed, but the concern is what if the Republicans lose with all this talk about stolen elections and candidates, talking about stolen elections and how they wont recognize the results if they lose. Considering, weve had romanticism of patriotic violence from the right whats going to happen if they in fact do lose? How many more Paul Pelosis are we going to read about?
-
The Dems won soundly in 2020 and despite the shenanigans of the Trumpists they held their positions. They only have themselves to blame if they lose now. What will happen if the Republicans lose? Boy would I like to see to see the failure of challenges. Can it happen?

[b]What Will Nancy Pelosi Do?[/b][/h1]
[link=https://punchbowl.news/archive/111122-punchbowl-news-am/]Punchbowl News[/link]: The answer No one knows yet. And thats frozen the rest of the House Democratic leadership in place.
Still dealing with the aftermath of the brutal attack on her husband, Paul Pelosi, the speaker hasnt informed anyone what her plans are. Or at least not anyone whos willing to disclose those plans. Pelosi will be interviewed on two Sunday shows this weekend, yet we dont anticipate shell be making any announcement on her future.
Of course, a lot of what happens will depend on the outcome in House races, and it may be some time before those are finalized. Whats clear is that Democrats have beaten the odds and kept Republicans to shockingly small gains for midterm election. There remains a chance that Democrats could keep the House. Slim, but possible. -
[h1][b]Nancy Pelosi May Stay in Congress in Emeritus Role[/b][/h1]
[link=https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/15/us/politics/nancy-pelosi-congress.html]New York Times[/link]: Now the question of will she stay or will she go has given way to a potential third option that some people close to Ms. Pelosi, 82, argue is a serious possibility for her: stepping down from leadership but remaining in Congress in a sort of emeritus role that would allow her to offer counsel to her colleagues and support the agenda of President Biden, 79, whom she has urged to run for re-election in 2024.
Such an arrangement would allow Ms. Pelosi to manage her own exit from the political scene while passing the torch to a new generation of leaders that many Democrats have argued for years was long overdue to take over from the three octogenarians currently running the House. She has hinted at just such a possibility.

What would I have done differently? Won more elections and not given Republicans the power to do what they did. Make sure that a creature like Donald Trump never became president of the United States.
