  • Medical ethics in Radiology

I was a mammo tech expert decades ago. Now I’m a patient in a mystical system.
I recently had a mammogram that has disappeared. They want me to come back to have a 3d mammogram which is what was ordered to begin with No explanation or results from the previous mammogram.
What happens to a study that is done in error? Back in my day it was read anyway, and the correct study was ordered with an explanation to the patient and referring doctor. I believe it was considered the ethical thing to do because the wrong study’s results could provide some further insight into the patient’s condition or provide a negative study to compare to a future condition.
The medical center where I had the mammogram will not return my calls, will not give me a valid reason to call me for another mammogram. They claimed my doctor ordered another mammo, but she said she did not order another mammo.
Is this incompetence, unethical or do I have a suspicious finding that should be scheduled with a mammo AND a biopsy at the same time?
I’m reluctant to go back to a facility that is not being honest with me.

Your doctor who ordered the mammogram should be handling this for you.

I was always surprised by how often people try to lie their way out of a mistake at the hospital, and just make it worse.
I doubt it has anything to do with a suspicious finding on your mammo.
I was taught and always read exams even if they were done by mistake.

I am sorry to hear that. It is a bad situation to be at.

A few years ago I went for a blood test and they lost my sample. I really don’t know what happened but the Lab gave me voucher for free blood tests for 5 years. I never went to that lab again.
