Thats my take. Own two Teslas and bought them because they were new and fun and there were no better EV options. One will come off lease and not be replaced. Will look around for other options. Maybe not even EV.

TSLA down another 7.5% today, nearly 72% down for the year.

Meanwhile, Elon is tweeting pictures of himself as Batman

Does Elon control the majority of the Tesla board?  If not they’re not doing their fiduciary duty to remove him post haste.

Yes. It’s a rubber stamp board. And a strong argument can be made that they are not doing their job.

$16/share down means $50.5 billion lost today. Or 1.15 twitters. Today.

So if Elon is in control of the board hes ignoring his fiduciary duty to take care of the stock price. Maybe thats part of the bone Liz Warren is picking with him.

He send a stupid tweet and the stock goes down 3%. Any other company would shoot the CEO out of a cannon after tweeting someone has small testicles.

Those laid off at the social media platform owned by Elon Musk include Nur Azhar Bin Ayob, a relatively recent hire as head of site integrity for the Asia-Pacific region, and Analuisa Dominguez, Twitter’s senior director of revenue policy, Bloomberg reported.

Workers on teams handling policy on misinformation, global appeals and state media on the platform were also eliminated, the report added.

Twitter’s vice president of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, confirmed to Reuters that Twitter made some cuts in the trust and safety team on Friday night but did not give details.

Two articles this week from the Economist on Starlink and Ukraine:

“How Elon Musk’s satellites have saved Ukraine and changed warfare”
“Starlink’s performance in Ukraine has ignited a new space race”
(links below, both good reads)

I’ve been trying to understand the massive anti-Musk sentiment following his purchase of Twitter– open to corrections from those who now hate him, but my assumption is b/c he become a political actor, with 2 major actions: (1) he openly endorsed Republicans (2) he made it clear he was going to change Twitter moderation/censorship/whatever, in particular reinstating Trump and getting rid of content moderation that made those on the US left happy on those on the US right mad. Ok, I definitely get that– if he endorsed Democrats etc R’s would hate him just as much.

I think his getting political was idiotic. I’m pretty sure it was, even though I’ve been wrong about almost everything he’s done (as I’ve mentioned before, I thought Tesla was a bad idea, SpaceX seemed crazy, and I thought StarLink sounded pretty dumb).

Now StarLink is crucial to Ukraine, and as explained in the articles has massive military advantages over traditional satellite communications.

So, 2 things:
(1) Musk has done more for Ukraine than virtually anyone else in the world. And note that while we are spending a lot of money on Ukraine, the US government has made SpaceX eat the cost of the Starlink help to Ukraine. Not really fair. But, Musk has pissed off half of DC, so there you go.

(2) Musk has 2 undeniable talents, demonstrated amply even if he never does anything else. First, he has amazing taste in near-future technology. Electric cars, private rocket company, Starlink, all considered somewhere between very high risk and idiotic when he got into them, yet he has absolutely revolutionized all 3 industries. We’ll see about Neuralink. Maybe Boring Co is dead?  Second, he is obviously very good at the most important job for a CEO in his position: hire really, really good engineers and create the conditions that allow them to do amazing things.

Whether or not Twitter can succeed I have no idea. Hard to believe it can ever be worth $44B. But Musk has absolutely changed the world in a way few people ever have, and IMO massively for the better. Hopefully he drops the politics, but that doesn’t seem in his nature.

The left hates Elon musk because he has shown that the CIA, DHS, FBI, DOJ, NSA, White House, Senate, House, States and EVERY Social Media company were involved in leftist collusion to censor Americans. This is an assault on the First Amendment and free speech without precedent in American history.

Says the South African. He shows his non-bias by including Asians who are now the new N-word along with Whites, proving his case I guess?

Which Asians I’d like to know since “Asians” run from Europe to the Pacific with a couple of countries and “types” of Asians between the 2.

This whole thing really illustrates White fragility. And Rasmussen, exactly who the fluck are they polling, that “media” isn’t telling us, but Rasmussen has the courage to say? So Rasmussen is the single media source that has the courage to say Blacks can be racist too?

Who’d have ever known. Next we’ll find out that Rasmussen tells us that even Asians can be racist too.

This is what is on the mind of White people. Thank you Rasmussen for telling me this. I am so relieved. I have to admit I’m not a good White person since these things do not bore a hole in my brain, now or ever. I mean I don’t give a sh1t about what Rasmussen reveals for us.

Not quite a year go in this thread I wrote ..

Musk’s politics and persona are difficult to pigeon hole. He’s a complicated dude with a lot to like … and a lot to dislike.

Tesla is revolutionary and has likely been the primary catalyst of a global transformation of the auto industry away from fossil fuels.  That’s great.     I wish it was a union shop and that Musk was quite so cozy with China to get it done, but … complicated.

His views on space exploration are to be applauded.

But I certainly see reason to believe that his own views on Twitter and free speech are of concern.    His track record on his own statements on social media show a lack of discipline and a trollish bent at best.

What his real vision is for Twitter is not yet known.  But certainly there’s cause for concern.

That still stands… although my concerns have grown in the intervening time… I think justifiably so.

___

I think it is completely expected that when Musk decided to turn hard to the right he would lost support from left leaning people …. who just so happen to make up the large part of both the Tesla consumer base and the Twitter user base.

His erratic behavior is something that I find repulsive.

Also, his apparent desire to use his virtually unlimited wealth and his power in (some) ways that are a net negative for society over the last year justifies withdrawing support.

I don’t “hate” elon Musk … but he certainly has shown himself to be no hero… and I am hopeful that his current behavior costs him both dollars and reputation … so that he either changes his behavior or falls so far that he is no longer relevant.
[link=https://morningshots.thebulwark.com/p/springtime-for-nazis-on-twitter]Springtime for Nazis… On Twitter [/link]

Who is Andrew Anglin?
When Twitter banned neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes back in December 2021, the sites Head of Safety and Integrity, Yoel Roth [link=https://www.mediaite.com/news/trump-dinner-guest-and-hitler-loving-neo-nazi-reinstated-on-twitter/]said,[/link] Hateful conduct has no place here.

But Roth is gone, Elon Musk is in charge, and the Nazis are back.

Back in 2017, The Atlantic profiled Anglin: [link=https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/12/the-making-of-an-american-nazi/544119/]The Making of An American Nazi.

[/link]
Anglin is an ideological descendant of men such as George Lincoln Rockwell, who created the American Nazi Party in the late 1950s, and William Luther Pierce, who founded the National Alliance, a powerful white-nationalist group, in the 1970s. Anglin admires these predecessors, who saw themselves as revolutionaries at the vanguard of a movement to take back the country. He dreams of a violent insurrection.

But where Rockwell and Pierce relied on pamphlets, the radio, newsletters, and in-person organizing to advance their aims, Anglin has the internet. His reach is exponentially greater, his ability to connect with like-minded young men unprecedented.

Thousands of pro-Trump bots are attacking DeSantis, Haley

Over the past 11 months, someone created thousands of fake, automated Twitter accounts perhaps hundreds of thousands of them to offer a stream of praise for Donald Trump.

Besides posting adoring words about the former president, the fake accounts ridiculed Trumps critics from both parties and attacked Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador who is challenging her onetime bossfor the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

The sprawling bot network was uncovered by researchers at Cyabra, an Israeli tech firm that shared its findings with The Associated Press. While the identity of those behind the network of fake accounts is unknown, Cyabras analysts determined that it was likely created within the U.S.

So theres this intriguing exchange on Twitter. He seems to fire a guy with MS but he owes the guy 100m upon termination. Elon being Elon appearing to harbor illwill towards someone with a disability. But it seems like he opens himself to legal exposure because hes an idiot. You can see it as he deleted a Tweet but Tweets are forever. Then goes on to sort of mea culpa apologize. I think he owes this large payout and he should probably be getting a lawsuit.

[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/03/24/twitter-legacy-blue-checkmarks/]Musk says Twitter will get rid of blue check marks unless users pay up

[/link]also, twitter contemplating letting blue check verified uses hide their blue check…. because they’re getting pwned online over being such tools that they’d be willing to pay Musk $11/month.
News Organizations Wont Pay for Blue Checkmarks
News organizations have a message for Elon Musk: We are not going to pay you for checkmarks on Twitter, [link=https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/30/media/news-organizations-elon-musk-twitter-checkmark/index.html]CNN[/link] reports.
The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, BuzzFeed, Politico, and Vox all scoffed at the notion on Thursday that they would pay Twitter for the feature, which has been free since it was introduced years ago but will soon be phased out.

Could not care less about blue check marks

However, a lot of people are on Twitter for free PR/to build an audience. If it gets them a wider audience I assume theyll pay before long.

Yep.

Like I posted above … killing twitter by transforming the blue check from a sign of verification to a pay-to-play algorithmic megaphone

Well it didnt appear to have happened. Now hes saying theres a grace period unless you say you dont it. In the case of NYT they lost their check. Now theres also tons of new blue checks using names of people to impersonate them.
Twitter Adds “State Media” Warning to NPR
Twitter added a warning to NPRs Twitter account on Tuesday, declaring it as state-affiliated media, a label thats typically been reserved for foreign media outlets that represent the official views of the government, like Russias RT and Chinas Xinhua, [link=https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattnovak/2023/04/05/twitter-adds-state-affiliated-media-label-to-npr-account-putting-it-on-par-with-russia-today/?sh=63247d56635c]Forbes[/link] reports.

Musk polishing his Rightwing troll creds again aligning himself with the nutbag Right more and more each day.

Twitter defines state-affiliated media as outlets where the state exercises control over editorial content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution. That is unquestionably not NPR, which assiduously maintains editorial independence, said Liz Woolery, PEN Americas digital policy lead. Publicly available sources indicate about 15 percent of NPRs overall budget includes taxpayer funds authorized by Congress, and make clear that the U.S. government exercises no editorial control over NPR whatsoever. For Twitter to unilaterally label NPR as state-affiliated media, on par with Russia Today, is a dangerous move that could further undermine public confidence in reliable news sources. Its a gift to disinformation purveyors and to authoritarian regimes the world over.

If Mr. Musk likes kids and babies so much, I vote he uses his wealth to pay child support for every unwed mother in need in the United States. I mean he loves humanity and hes only doing his part!
