I don’t think he’s all he’s cracked up to be on the business front.  Tesla is kind of a hot product and the stock enjoyed going way up.  It’s been sinking like the Titanic though.  Knee capped 50% in a year.  I also think traditional car companies are going to catch up on the electric front and build products of better quality.  There’s a whole segment of videos out there of people showing shoddy build quality on Teslas.

New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach, [link=https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1593673339826212864]Musk tweeted[/link].

Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter. You wont find the tweet unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from rest of Internet, he added.

Advocacy groups warned that Musks plan to create a free speech platform, with less content moderation measures in place, could lead to more hate speech and misinformation spreading on the site.

Musks tweet about the new policy does not provide insight or details as to what will classify as negative or hate tweets under his leadership.

Carl Icahn may be a dick, but in the end his ‘creative destruction’ made a lot of people and pension plans a lot of money. It appears increasingly that all Elon has to offer with this acquisition was the ‘destruction’ part.

Sign a pledge or get fired. Lol.

IMO hard to defend, on any level, what he did with the Trump ban.

        (a) I can think of a lot of defensible reasons to keep Trump off. Or at least kick the decision down the road until, say, all of the current investigations of Trump are concluded, and then carefully assess the evidence (preferably this takes a few years).

        (b) If you say, no, I’m a free speech absolutist, then why the hell do you take a poll of the Twitter audience and decide based on that? That’s the definition of mob rule.

Indefensible process, followed by a bone-headed decision IMO.

            The ideal boss.

For the workaholic who misses prepandemic bro-culture maybe, bragging about who works the longest hours per week & perhaps even sleeping at your desk, the glory days of Silicon Valley culture.

Oh, and dont even think or ever criticizing your thin-skinned boss because you will find yourself suddenly unemployed.

            [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/23/opinion/elon-musk-extremely-hardcore.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/23/opinion/elon-musk-extremely-hardcore.html[/link]

Have you ever gotten an email at midnight from the boss with an ominous subject line like a fork in the road? Granted, email etiquette today says were not supposed to get midnight emails from bosses at all. But Elon Musk is no ordinary boss, and its safe to assume he didnt get the memo on empathetic leadership. So, true to form, as chief executive of Twitter, after laying off nearly half of his staff, [link=https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/oct/26/elon-musk-twitter-visit-sink]bringing a sink to work[/link] and proclaiming he would be sleeping at the office [link=https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-sleeping-at-twitter-hq-until-company-fixed-2022-11]until the org is fixed[/link], Mr. Musk recently issued [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/11/16/musk-twitter-email-ultimatum-termination/]this late-night ultimatum[/link] to his remaining employees: From this point forward, Twitter was going to be extremely hard core. Were they ready to be hard core? They could select yes or opt for three months of severance pay.

To Mr. Musk, hard core meant long hours at high intensity, a workplace where only the most exceptional performance would be accepted and a culture in which midnight emails would be just fine. Id wager that more than a few workaholics, bosses or otherwise, werent entirely turned off by the philosophy behind that statement, and yet it immediately conjured images of sweaty Wall Street bankers collapsing at their desks, Silicon Valley wunderkinds sleeping under theirs and the high-intensity, bro-boss cultures of companies like Uber and WeWork, with their [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/26/business/against-hustle-culture-rise-and-grind-tgim.html]accompanying slogans[/link] about doing what you love and sleeping when youre dead. Its a prepandemic mind-set that, sure, some bosses may long for but many more employees are determined never to go back to.

But Mr. Musk, with his [link=https://www.npr.org/2022/03/03/1084366833/elon-musk-dares-united-autoworkers-to-try-to-unionize-tesla]union-busting[/link] record and his [link=https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-elon-musk-ruthlessly-fired-anyone-who-disagreed-spacex-report-2021-8]ruthless firing of those who disagree with him[/link], is like a boss on steroids about this stuff, and his embrace of extremely hard core isnt just out of step with the national mood; its revealing about an old model of leadership were trying to move on from. Twitter employees seemed to say as much: Some 1,200 of them, or nearly half of the companys remaining work force, opted not to sign his hard core pledge, raising questions about whether Twitter would survive at all. Mr. Musk already faces at least one [link=https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23311136-twitter-disabled-employees-complaint]lawsuit[/link] over hard core  [link=https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/disabled-twitter-employees-resigned-because-073229152.html]filed by disabled employees[/link] who believed the policy would result in discrimination against them.

Even before the pandemic, many white-collar Americans were starting to rethink their relationships to work. Persistent income inequality, enduring racial and gender discrimination, disillusionment with the capitalist promise hustle culture was a catchy slogan, but was any of this really worth it?

These days, the rise-and-grind mentality of just a couple of years ago has been replaced by sleeping in. ([link=https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/13/well/live/nap-ministry-bishop-tricia-hersey.html]Rest is resistance[/link]  havent you heard?) There are regular headlines about our collective revolt against [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/06/opinion/Naomi-Osaka-ambition-women.html?referringSource=articleShare]the cult of ambition[/link], and quiet quitting, the catchy phrase to describe doing the bare minimum at work (or, you know, just treating it like a job), apparently describes half of the U.S. work force, according to a recent [link=https://www.gallup.com/workplace/398306/quiet-quitting-real.aspx]Gallup poll[/link]. Young people have meme-ified their own antiwork sentiments, proclaiming that they [link=https://www.vox.com/the-highlight/22977663/gen-z-antiwork-capitalism]dont dream of labor[/link] to catchy TikTok tunes or on [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/15/magazine/antiwork-reddit.html?smid=url-share]Reddit[/link], with the motto Unemployment for all, not just the rich.

And why wouldnt they? Workplace burnout [link=https://www.apa.org/monitor/2022/01/special-burnout-stress]is a national crisis[/link]. According to a recent poll by the [link=https://www.gartner.com/en/articles/employees-seek-personal-value-and-purpose-at-work-be-prepared-to-deliver]research firm Gartner[/link], almost two-thirds of employees said the pandemic had made them question the role work should play in their lives, and the [link=https://shrm-res.cloudinary.com/image/upload/v1631118305/NMTE/The_Culture_Effect_-_Why_a_Positive_Workplace_Culture_is_the_New_Currency.pdf]Society for Human Resource Management[/link] reports that more than half of American managers leave work feeling exhausted at the end of the day. Its perhaps no surprise, then, that unionization efforts are [link=https://www.cbsnews.com/news/unions-are-cool-again-a-new-generation-of-workers-advocates-for-unionization/]underway across the country[/link], aiming not only for higher wages but also for better working conditions overall.

[link=https://variety.com/2022/tv/features/kardashians-hulu-kris-kim-khloe-1235198939/]Kim Kardashian was dragged when she said[/link], Nobody wants to work these days. Maybe a better way to put it: Nobody wants to work like that.

[h1][b]Elon Musk Will Revive Nearly All Banned Twitter Accounts[/b][/h1]

Elon Musk plans to reinstate nearly all previously banned Twitter accounts to the alarm of activists and online trust and safety experts, the [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/11/24/twitter-musk-reverses-suspensions/]Washington Post[/link] reports.

After posting a Twitter poll asking, Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, provided that they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam? in which 72.4 percent of the respondents voted yes, Musk declared, Amnesty begins next week.

Curious about alleged poll. Who got it, anyone here on Twit get polled? How large was this alleged poll, again, anyone here on Twit get polled? My suspicion supported about how quickly results from all aged poll were tabulated, he asks a question 1 day & a few days later has the results of said poll that support amnesty? Lets not forget the guy is levered up to his eyeballs over his hasty purchase of Twit, which likely affects what little good judgement he might have.

Elon seems more the Twit than genius considering his transparent skin over criticism from employees which goes against his claim of total free speech absolutist as he fires anyone who criticizes him.

The “poll” was a tweet by Elon Musk set up as a poll.  Not scientific in any way.

It’s a great example of selection bias in polling.  It starts with a biased field of people who are followers of Elon Musk as being most likely to be polled.

It would interesting to see some of these characters staring in a comedy.
    I can see it now-
Horrible Bosses 3: Holiday Edition-A Very UnMerry Christmas.
Staring-#1 horrible boss-Elon Musk. He has fired half the Twitter staff before the holidays and demands that those remaining work 80 hour week weeks and be happy to serve Emperor Elon. He wakes up in the morning and goes to his special cache of photos of himself that he deems flattering and decides which ones the press can use that day. After he submits his photo, he uploads two unflattering photos of his first wife to the web. He hacks females phones and obtains information from them he thinks may make them indebted to him, or threatens to use it against them. He has a Twit meltdown after someone spray paints #1 Defrauder of the American Public on the side of the Twitter building. After he recovers, he is approached by his girlfriend and mother of his daughter. She tells him she is in legal trouble and asks him for help. He doesnt lift a finger and leaves her hanging out to dry. It is later revealed that he has tried to create some type of cult-like collective at Twitter made attempts to impregnate the entire female staff.

Enter Horrible Boss # 2-Kanye West. Kanye hires people by something he calls trial by porn. He shows potential new hires porn on his laptop and judges their reaction. He also shows prospective and current employees porn with Kim Kardashian-unbeknownst to her. He decides to host a contest in which he demands employees vie to make him a top most favorite special shoe.

Then theres Jeff Bezos, horrible boss #3-who runs around with a stopwatch timing how long Amazon employees are in the bathroom, and how fast they can move from Shelf A to Shelf B. A tornado threatens a large Amazon warehouse, and they wont let employees leave as the roof collapses.

Actually, this doesnt really seem like a comedy after all.

Musk getting more bold in his flirtations with the far-right

        [link]https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/1488[/link]

        [b]ALTERNATE NAMES:[/b] 8814
1488 is a combination of two popular white supremacist numeric symbols. The first symbol is [link=https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/14]14[/link], which is shorthand for the “[link=https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/14-words]14 Words[/link]” slogan: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.” The second is [link=https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/88]88[/link], which stands for “Heil Hitler” (H being the 8th letter of the alphabet). Together, the numbers form a general endorsement of white supremacy and its beliefs. As such, they are ubiquitous within the white supremacist movement – as graffiti, in graphics and tattoos, even in screen names and e-mail addresses, such as [email protected].  Some white supremacists will even price racist merchandise, such as t-shirts or compact discs, for $14.88.

Twitter grapples with Chinese spam obscuring news of protests[/h1]
[h2]For hours, links to adult content overwhelmed other posts from cities where dramatic rallies escalated[/h2]

Twitters radically reduced anti-propaganda team grappled on Sunday with a flood of nuisance content in China that researchers said was aimed at reducing the flow of news about stunning widespread protests against coronavirus restrictions.

Numerous Chinese-language accounts, some dormant for months or years, came to life early Sunday and started spamming the service with links to escort services and other adult offerings alongside city names.

The result: For hours, anyone searching for posts from those cities and using the Chinese names for the locations would see pages and pages of useless tweets instead of information about [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/11/27/china-covid-lockdown-protest-xinjiang/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5]the daring protests[/link] as they escalated to include calls for Communist Party leaders to resign.

Decimated because that team wasnt doing sh!t about child exploitation. That is a totally misleading article.

Elon Musk Is Addressing Issue of Child Sexual Exploitation Content on Twitter After Years of Inactivity Under Platforms Past Management.

(Since Musks acquisition) the three most popular hashtags used to sell child sexual abuse material on Twitter are almost completely cleaned out.

last week Twitter also added a direct reporting option for child sexual exploitation (on tweets with content images/videos).

Twitter’s concrete steps to combat content containing CSE material were taken less than three weeks after Musk took over the platform. This is an extremely encouraging signal and demonstrates his commitment to solving the existing problem. In no time, Musk made possible what the old leadership had not done for ten years.

Also, of note, is that musk brought Project Veritas back. They tweeted this today. Stay tuned:

      #ExposeChildTrafficking

This is exactly why we need free speech.

Twitters is losing left leaning users so its trying to make up for by attracting right leaning users

    Its that simple

This is a play toward the Q-Anon types

Looool. Fighting child exploitation, not because it is an extremely important altruistic cause, but because they are trying to attract more Q anon types. Its that simple. You troll.

        No

Musk drove away liberals and moderates

So he is trying to add subscribers anyway he can

So he plays the pedophilia card to attract the Q-Anon typeset

hmmm.  The vibe I get is people are looking for alternatives like Post or Mastodon.  Some people are gonna ride it till she bucks but those are the people making $ off twitter.

Alternatives like Mastodon will gain as much traction as TruthSocial and Parler.

Musk Touts All-Time High Twitter Signups And Daily Active Users On As He Promises New Features

The problem is the sign up rate is being driven by right-winger, formerly banned accounts, and bots/spam …. which is likely to further drive *away* advertisers and hurt revenue.

Are these announcements of highest everrr signups only from Musk or is there independent corroboration of all time signups? Musk has never exactly proven himself to be a truth teller when an advantage to him was the reward as he has a history. He is still on the hook for paying off the purchase so anything positive he says should be taken with a heavy dose of salt & incredulity.

it’s a private company now being run by one man’s whim … so it’s a “take my word for it” situation

but even if it is true .. and it very well may be … the funadmental problem is that twitter gets it revenue primarily from advertisers. And even with growing user numbers those companies aren’t coming back until they’re pretty sure the moderation issues have been solved.

Musk can talk a lot about monetizing users .. but blue checks are a crop in the bucket compared to Apple ad $$.
