The revised plan was revealed Monday in a regulatory filing that also disclosed details of the electric-vehicle makers Bitcoin sales and another subpoena from securities regulators related to Musks 2018 tweet about taking Tesla private.

The company now expects $6 billion to $8 billion of capital expenditures this year and each of the next two years, according to its latest [link=https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1318605/000095017022012936/tsla-20220630.htm]quarterly report[/link]. Tesla had previously estimated it would spend between $5 billion and $7 billion on ramping up manufacturing facilities and other items.

The company also said it received a subpoena on June 13 from the [link=https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/13165Z:US]US Securities and Exchange Commission[/link] about its compliance with an agreement to oversee Musks tweeting. It was the second subpoena the SEC has issued in months regarding how the company has governed its CEOs social media postings after he claimed in 2018 to have had secured funding to take Tesla private.

    [/link]

Elon Musk offloaded $6.9 billion worth of stock in [link=https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/TSLA:US]Tesla Inc.[/link], saying he wanted to avoid a sudden sale in the event hes forced to go ahead with his deal to acquire [link=https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/TWTR:US]Twitter Inc.[/link]

Teslas chief executive officer sold about 7.92 million shares on Aug. 5, according to regulatory filings released after US markets closed Tuesday. Musk tweeted that he was [link=https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1557198421206769664]done selling[/link] and would [link=https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1557199046741094400]buy shares[/link] in the electric-car maker if the Twitter deal doesnt close.

In the (hopefully unlikely) event that Twitter forces this deal to close *and* some equity partners dont come through, it is important to avoid an emergency sale of Tesla stock, Musk wrote.

[h1]Ex-Twitter exec blows the whistle, alleging reckless and negligent cybersecurity policies[/h1]

The whistleblower, who has agreed to be publicly identified, is Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, who was previously the company’s head of security, reporting directly to the CEO. Zatko further alleges that Twitter’s leadership has misled its own board and government regulators about its security vulnerabilities, including some that could allegedly open the door to foreign spying or manipulation, hacking and disinformation campaigns. The whistleblower also alleges Twitter does not reliably delete users’ data after they cancel their accounts, in some cases because the company has lost track of the information, and that it has misled regulators about whether it deletes the data as it is required to do. The whistleblower also says Twitter executives don’t have the resources to fully understand the true number of bots on the platform, and were not motivated to. Bots have recently become central to Elon Musk’s attempts to back out of a $44 billion deal to buy the company (although Twitter denies Musk’s claims).

Former head of security Peiter Zatko accuses Twitter of Lying about Bots to Elon Musk in a whistleblower complaint filed in July with regulators, including the Securities and Exchange Commission,[b] [/b]a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post.

Zatko, a well-known figure in the security community, alleges Twitter is not incentivized to tally the true number of bots and spammy accounts on the service, which counts 238 million daily users. And he lays out another argument that could give Musk a potential boost in his fight to prove Twitter broke its contract when he agreed to acquire the company for $44 billion: that Twitter deceived regulators regarding its defenses against hackers.

Importantly, however, Zatko provides limited hard documentary evidence in his complaint regarding spam and bots, so the potential impact of those allegations is difficult to initially gauge.

[b]Expect a Very Different Twitter Under Elon Musk[/b][/h1]

[link=https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2022/10/05/what-to-expect-from-elon-musks-twitter-00060432?nname=playbook&nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&nrid=0000014e-f0ed-dd93-ad7f-f8edad790000&nlid=630318]Playbook[/link]: Twitter is enormously consequential to Americanpolitics and media, and the takeover by Musk will have major implications

Signs point to a radically different Twitter, where Trump is back he has said he wont return but who believes that? where content moderation is drastically dialed back, where the site, fairly or not, is seen as right-leaning and hostile to progressives, and where addictive TikTok-style content, which is not especially interesting to the media and politics-junkies who made the site essential, becomes more important.

A lot of this could be wrong. Trump might stick with his flailing Truth Social. Musk might solve the extraordinarily difficult issues around free speech and moderation. He might attract ideologically diverse users. And he might backtrack on his TikTok comments. But get ready for a lot of change, and very soon: He could control the platform as soon as this weekend.

There is a law against a US citizen negotiating on behalf of the US unless they have a diplomatic commission. Unless he represented that he was speaking on behalf of the US it’s not illegal afaik.

[b]Elon Musk is under federal investigation over his Twitter deal, Twitter claims[/b]

Federal authorities are investigating Elon Musk in connection with his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter, the social media platform said in a court filing Thursday.

It is not clear which agencies may be carrying out the probe, and Twitter did not identify what specific actions by Musk US officials may be investigating. Twitter’s filing merely said authorities are looking into Musk’s “conduct” linked to the deal.

The company’s court filing elsewhere accused Musk’s legal team of failing to produce draft communications with the Securities and Exchange Commission and a slide presentation to the Federal Trade Commission as part of the two sides’ ongoing litigation over whether Musk can walk away from the deal.

[h1][b]Elon Musk Threatens to Pull Internet Access from Ukraine after being Insulted on Twitter[/b][/h1] [b]
    [/b]
Elon Musk said Friday that his space company could not keep funding the Starlink satellite service that has kept Ukraine and its military online during the war, and he suggested he was pulling free internet after a Ukrainian ambassador insulted him on Twitter, the [link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fworld%2F2022%2F10%2F14%2Fukraine-elon-musk-starlink-ambassador-andrij-melnyk%2F]Washington Post[/link] reports.

A Starlink cutoff would cripple the Ukrainian militarys main mode of communication and potentially hamstring its defenses by giving a major advantage to Russia, which has sought to jam signals and phone service in the eastern and southern combat zones.

[link=https://thehill.com/policy/international/3693040-fiona-hill-says-musk-tweet-clearly-is-a-message-from-putin/]Fiona Hill: Musk’s tweet clearly is a message from Putin

    [/link]

Hill [link=https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/10/17/fiona-hill-putin-war-00061894]told Politico in an interview published Monday[/link] that before Musk tweeted out his so-called peace proposal earlier this month, he made a similar statement at a September event in Aspen, Colo., suggesting the Crimean Peninsula remain in Russian hands.

Musk also said then that control over the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions should be negotiated because Crimea would need water supplies from those regions, Hill noted.

The reference to water is so specific that this clearly is a message from Putin, she said.

I had intermediaries sent to discuss things with me while I was in government, she told Politico. This is a classic Putin play. Its just fascinating, of course, that its Elon Musk in this instance, because obviously Elon Musk has a huge Twitter following.

He did cave on the Starlink. Saying something like I guess the government will pay everyone else but me. Id love to see the US call in his marker for whatever we bailed him out for. I think it was close to $500million. Why at it lets cut his subsidies too.
