  • Downfall of some actual fake news AKA Alex Jones

Posted by kaldridgewv2211 on April 17, 2017 at 1:18 pm

Assuming people are familiar with Alex Jones, crazy conspiracy theories, fake news etc…  His divorce is shining some light on him for basically being the heel that he is.  His own crazy persona might be backfiring on him since it’s easy for the Mrs’ lawyers to use it against him.

‘Hes playing a character. He is a performance artist, said Randall Wilhite, a lawyer in Jones child custody dispute’

So he’s being interviewed by Meg Kelly this Sunday on NBC. I’m wondering who at NBC thought this was a good idea.

John Oliver lit him up Sunday night. He uses a fake MIT Dr to sell supplements.

          Kelly continues her downslide.

Hard to change a leopard’s spots. She’s soiled material & well deserves her decline.

Megyn Kellys slot of the Today show desperately needs a ratings boost after less than a month on the air.

On Thursday, Hoda Kotb, the ever-upbeat popular Today host from another hour appeared as a guest. They chatted. They danced. They tried to get the audience on its feet dancing, too.

          Critics hated the moment.

Kellys show has been riddled with problems from the jump.

During the first week, she angered Will & Grace star Debra Messing by asking one of the shows fans if he was homosexual because of the sitcoms lead character, a gay lawyer named Will. Days later, she insulted Jane Fonda by asking the 79-year-old actress about her plastic surgery. Fonda was on the show with Robert Redford to promote their movie Our Souls at Night.

As time went on, the gaffes grew and her audience shrank.

Other problems, though, fell entirely on Kellys shoulders. For instance, two days after a gunman killed 58 people and injured hundreds more in the Las Vegas mass shooting, she interrupted Tom Brokaw as the former NBC Nightly News anchor spoke out against the NRA. Kelly [link=https://www.avclub.com/megyn-kelly-cuts-off-tom-brokaw-in-the-middle-of-a-spee-1819113301]spoke over Brokaw[/link], saying Yep. Yep, got it. Gotta leave it at that, Tom. . . . she just is a Foxbot–appealed to old white men
-once she got to NBC -if she had any brain she should have never done an interview with Jones–just branded her as Fox even more
Lis Ling has an intelligent show this life on CNN and she does interesting topics–including guns–I thought Fox would be doing that on Sunday night but she just wasted that golden opportunity

[h1][b]Alex Jones Denied All Forms of [/b]Relief[/h1]

Without comment, the Lone Star States highest civil court found that Americas foremost conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, and his flagship media outlet, InfoWars, are subject to liability in four separate defamation lawsuits filed over the past two-plus years. Those lawsuits were filed by parents of children who were killed during the Sandy Hook massacre and by a man Jones and his network falsely identified as the perpetrator of the Parkland massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

        [/link]

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear an appeal by Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who was fighting a Connecticut court sanction in a defamation lawsuit brought by relatives of some of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

[link=https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/alex-jones-pay-100-000-sandy-hook-case-judge-rules-n1109096]Jones was penalized in 2019[/link] by a trial court judge for an angry outburst on his web show against an attorney for the relatives and for violating numerous orders to turn over documents to the families’ lawyers. Judge Barbara Bellis barred Jones from filing a motion to dismiss the case, which remains pending, and said she would order Jones to pay some of the families’ legal fees.

Jones argued he should not have been sanctioned for exercising his free speech rights. The Connecticut Supreme Court [link=https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/court-upholds-alex-jones-sanctions-in-sandy-hook-case/2306831/]upheld Bellis’ ruling last year.[/link]

            Alex Jones loses bigly
            .

Infowars host Alex Jones has lost two of several lawsuits filed against him by relatives of Sandy Hook victims after he routinely failed to comply with requests to produce documents related to his involvement in spreading lies about the deadly shooting.

Judge Maya Guerra Gamble on Monday issued her ruling for default judgments against Jones in two different cases, which means he and the conspiracy-theory-spewing outlet Infowars have been found liable for all damages and a jury will now be convened to determine how much he will owe the plaintiffs. The new rulings became public Thursday.

In the filings, Gamble eviscerated Jones and reasoned that default judgments should be ordered because an escalating series of judicial admonishments, monetary penalties, and non-dispositive sanctions have all been ineffective at deterring the abuse, caused by Jones unwillingness to turn over documents related to the cases, the Texas judge ruled.

The ruling which is often referred to in Texas as a death penalty sanction for a party unwilling to comply with court orders is a rarity in the legal world. Jones, who is now on his seventh lawyer in these cases, had years to provide documentation requested by the court, including internal company emails.

[b]Alex Jones Guilty In Sandy Hook Defamation Suits[/b][/h1]
A superior court in Connecticut granted a sweeping victory to the parents of eight people killed in a 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., suing the far-right broadcaster and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his Infowars media outlet for defamation, the [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/15/us/politics/alex-jones-sandy-hook.html]New York Times[/link] reports.

The judge in Connecticut ruled on Monday that because Mr. Jones refused to turn over documents ordered by the courts, including financial records, he was guilty by default.
Juries will next decide how much Mr. Jones should pay the families in damages, atop court costs.

[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/03/24/alex-jones-sandy-hook-deposition/] Alex Jones skipped Sandy Hook deposition but taped his show

    [/link]

Alex Joness lawyers told a judge on Tuesday that the Infowars founder was too sick to answer questions under oath at his court-ordered deposition the next day.

Their arguments were similar to those they had made the day before in a written motion requesting a postponement in the court case in which relatives of those killed in the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School sued him for calling the massacre a giant hoax. A delay was necessary, they said, because a doctor remains firm in his initial recommendation that Mr. Jones neither attend a deposition nor return to work since he stands at serious risk of harm.

But Jones was at work right around the time they were making those very arguments to the judge, they later conceded. Specifically, he was at his recording studio in Austin in the middle of broadcasting four hours of The Alex Jones Show. Just as his lawyers were about to argue he was too sick to testify, Jones warned listeners that a cabal of global elites plan to start a[b] [/b]nuclear war or otherwise trigger a global crisis in the coming months to cover up massive financial crimes theyve committed over the decades.

[link=https://thehill.com/homenews/wire/600305-sandy-hook-families-reject-alex-jones-settlement-offer]Sandy Hook families reject Alex Jones settlement offer[/link]

Infowars host [link=https://thehill.com/person/alex-jones]Alex Jones[/link] offered to pay $120,000 per plaintiff to resolve a lawsuit by relatives of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims who said he defamed them by asserting the massacre never happened, according to court filings Tuesday. The offer was quickly rejected by the families.

Last week Jones defied a court order to attend a deposition near his home in Austin, Texas, to provide testimony ahead of the trial. Jones said he was ill. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday on [link=https://apnews.com/article/shootings-austin-texas-arrests-school-shootings-97c2257e75639f1480f35940784c9654]a request by the plaintiffs to sanction Jones for not cooperating[/link].

Lawyers for the families rejected the settlement offer within a few hours, saying in court filings that it was a transparent and desperate attempt by Alex Jones to escape a public reckoning under oath with his deceitful, profit-driven campaign against the plaintiffs and the memory of their loved ones lost at Sandy Hook.

        [/QUOTE]
Yeah. Why would they want to settle. They have Jones on the ropes and the goal, much more than monetary compensation, is to get him testifying under oath (and to make his life as awful as possible.)

    [h1][b]Alex Jones Weighs Bankruptcy[/b][/h1]
Companies owned by far-right radio host Alex Jones are getting advice from restructuring advisers and considering options including a potential bankruptcy filing after being hit by lawsuits over Joness conspiracy theories, [link=https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-17/alex-jones-s-businesses-tap-advisers-weigh-possible-bankruptcy]Bloomberg[/link] reports.

A Chapter 11 filing would aim to allow Joness businesses, such as Infowars and Free Speech Systems, to keep operating while pausing civil litigation against them.

    ____

IMHO, the courts should be *very* reluctant to allow bankruptcy to be used to avoid payments in civil litigation..   Just like the Boy Scouts or the Catholic Church in abuse cases …. the courts should force him to liquidate it all if needs be in order to pay the compensation to victims.

After skipping the morning session, Alex Jones rolls up to the courthouse and trashes the judge on the way inside, calling her a liar. (For others so inclined, bad idea)

      Rough day in court

Judge essentially accuses him of perjuring himself multiple times.

Then it turns out his defense team accidentally sent all of Jones’ phone text message to the plaintiff’s lawyers.

Now it seems pretty obvious that Jones lied in the deposition.

Plaintiff’s attorney offers Jones the chance to take the 5th while on the stand.

“I don’t think it’s a mistrial based on this,” the judge concluded.
Reynal also filed for an emergency motion to protect the phone contents from being shared with other Sandy Hook families who have sued InfoWars and Jones.

“We are very concerned about the records that have been disclosed, particularly the medical records,” Reynal told Gamble as he asked that the plaintiff attorneys “return” all documents and “destroy” any they have.

[b]Alex Jones Ordered to Pay  $45 Million in Punitive Damages[/b][/h1]

A Texas jury on Friday decided that the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones must pay the parents of a child killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting $45.2 million in punitive damages, one day after rendering a $4 million award for compensatory damages, the [link=https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/08/05/us/alex-jones-trial-sandy-hook/alex-jones-punitive-damages?smid=url-share]New York Times[/link] reports.
The jury announced both awards after several dramatic days in court that included testimony that Mr. Jones and Free Speech Systems, the parent company of his misinformation-peddling media outlet, Infowars, were worth between $135 million and $270 million.
Mr. Jones [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/15/us/politics/alex-jones-sandy-hook.html]was found liable[/link] last year of defaming the victims families after he spread bogus theories that the shooting had been part of a government plot to confiscate Americans firearms and that the victims families had been complicit in the scheme.

This marks the first time Jones has been financially penalized for his yearslong disinformation campaign about Sandy Hook, a charade that helped earn him up to [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/03/us/politics/alex-jones-trial-sandy-hook.html]$800,000 a day[/link]. And he will no doubt pay more in at least two other cases pending. It was also the first time Jones acknowledged the truth of what happened in Newtown.

This vindication of the truth, though gratifying, raises three disquieting questions: First, does a single truth badgered out of a serial liar matter? Second, does Joness apology, elicited only with his sweaty back pinned against the wall, mean anything? And third, will his admission or his apology have any effect in a mediasphere in which a single lie can quickly metastasize into an intractable web of falsehoods?

These are depressing questions to have to ask, but theyre not difficult to answer.

The answer to the first question is that Joness reluctant admission of the truth doesnt matter nearly enough. Whatever comfort it offers Lewis and Heslin, it cannot change the grotesque fact that for years, the family members of Sandy Hooks victims became Joness victims, that parents suffering the unimaginable loss of a child were then subject to harassment, threatened to the point of needing to move to new homes and [link=https://www.axios.com/2022/08/01/sandy-hook-parents-alex-jones-security-threats]hire security[/link]. It cannot change the fact that an unscrupulous fabulist leveraged the weaknesses of our current media ecosystem its fragmentation, lack of standards and polarization to his financial advantage.

As for the second question, nothing about Joness apology merits forgiveness. He threw out a flimsy excuse, saying hed suffered a form of psychosis. He emitted a meager note of contrition, a [link=https://apnews.com/article/health-us-news-shootings-texas-lawsuits-d029d6736d2ce6755c9e89e7cf9f27af?taid=62eaa3cd24e1a40001999b06&utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&utm_medium=AP&utm_source=Twitter]non-apology[/link] to outdo [link=https://hbr.org/2016/11/the-4-types-of-ineffective-apologies]non-apologies[/link], constructed in the mistakes were made patois of our times: I unintentionally took part in things that did hurt these peoples feelings and Im sorry for that.

Unremorseful, mediated, bloodless. It was the one thing he said on the stand with total lack of conviction.

The third question what kind of effect did the days events have on Alex Jones and the distorted world hes helped build? has an equally bleak answer. Only hours after the jurys decision, Jones, who once described himself to The Timess Elizabeth Williamson as a victim of a [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/09/insider/alex-jones-infowars-media-interview.html?action=click&module=RelatedLinks&pgtype=Article]media conspiracy[/link], skulked back onto his radio program according to one metric, the [link=https://today.yougov.com/topics/media/explore/radio_program/The_Alex_Jones_Show]42nd most popular[/link] radio show/podcast in the country, just behind Planet Money and ahead of Pod Save America. There he disparaged the days legal proceedings as an attack by globalists, promising listeners, [link=https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/08/04/us/alex-jones-sandy-hook]I will go down fighting[/link]. In fluent doublespeak, he called the decision a major victory for truth.

Hundreds of school shootings later, whats even harder is knowing how many people in this country have trouble knowing what truth even means.

So many people supporting the likes of Alex Jones have blood on their hands.

                  [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/08/alex-jones-republicans-tucker-carlson/]https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/08/alex-jones-republicans-tucker-carlson/[/link]

It has been nearly a decade since Alex Jones made transparently ridiculous claims that the massacre of schoolchildren at Sandy Hook Elementary was a false flag intended to generate support for gun control, and that the families mourning their children were [link=https://www.npr.org/2022/08/06/1115936712/how-alex-jones-helped-mainstream-conspiracy-theories-into-american-life]crisis actors[/link] in on the giant hoax. Jones has now been punished for the harm those lies caused: A Texas jury ordered him to [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/08/05/alex-jones-sandy-hook-punitive-damages/?itid=lk_inline_manual_2]pay nearly $50 million[/link] to the parents of one of the young victims for compounding their pain and suffering.

That the verdict took this long is one thing. That so many figures on the right cozied up to him in the meantime, despite widespread knowledge of these comments, is quite another. And better than most anything, it should serve as a moment of reckoning for the GOP as it increasingly embraces Jones-ian conspiracy theories or just allows them to metastasize within its base.

The Washington Posts Timothy Bella last week recapped the actions of two major players in the effort to legitimize Jones: [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/08/05/alex-jones-sandy-hook-trump-rogan/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5]former president Donald Trump and Joe Rogan[/link]. But the effort to mainstream the Infowars host and draw in his supporters, even after his Sandy Hook comments, was significantly more widespread than that.

[b]Trump adviser Stephen K. Bannon last year mused that Jones was [link=https://www.mediamatters.org/january-6-insurrection/steve-bannon-praises-alex-jones-after-playing-video-infowars-host-applauding]one of the smartest guys around on the topic of transhumanism[/link], and last month called him [link=https://www.thewrap.com/steve-bannon-alex-jones-greatest-political-thinkers/]a man of action and a great political thinker.[/link] Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) [link=https://www.mediamatters.org/alex-jones/cut-fox-debate-rand-paul-turns-alex-jones-help]appeared on Joness show in 2016[/link]. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has [link=https://www.thedailybeast.com/alex-jones-urges-marjorie-taylor-greene-to-run-for-president-smarter-than-desantis-and-trump]repeatedly[/link] [link=https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-gay-bill-b2048706.html]appeared on his show[/link], [link=https://www.newsweek.com/alex-jones-hints-backing-marjorie-taylor-greene-presidential-bid-1676074]even in recent months[/link], as the two of them have tried to stoke speculation about Greene seeking the presidency. And in September, Ohio GOP Senate candidate J.D. Vance favorably compared Jones to liberal MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, saying Jones was [link=https://twitter.com/jdvance1/status/1434552375117860870]a far more reputable source of information.[/link][/b]

Here are some of Joness choice conspiracy theories that[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/12/02/tucker-carlson-alex-jones-embrace/?itid=lk_inline_manual_19] we isolated late last year[/link]:

                  [blockquote]
Claimed the federal government has turned weather weapons on its citizens.
Claimed the government has used chemicals to turn people gay and that the majority of frogs in most areas of the United States are now gay because of the experiments.
Said people would let [Robert] Mueller rape kids in front of people, which he did, before walking back the assertion.
Promoted the Pizzagate conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton and top aides were running a satanic sex-trafficking ring out of a D.C. pizza restaurant, then backtracked and apologized.
Suggested the following were inside jobs and/or false flag operations: 9/11, the Boston Marathon bombing, Charlottesville, the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the Brussels terrorist attack and the massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
Falsely connected the Chobani yogurt company and its employment of refugees to child sexual assault and a rise in tuberculosis. (Jones later settled a defamation suit brought by Chobani.)
Was sued after Infowars falsely identified the shooter in the Parkland massacre.
                  [/blockquote]

Yet, to some of the most prominent conservatives in the country, these lies about murdered children were apparently a pittance.
