  • Breast Imaging Fellowship 2020-21 Year Discussion

Posted by Unknown Member on February 15, 2019 at 11:06 pm

    Hi Everyone,
It looks like IR and MSK have their own discussion threads for their application process.  Let’s have our own discussion about Breast/Mammo fellowships.

How many interviews do you think we should go on?
8-12 seems about right to me.

Is it better to do a less famous fellowship in the location you want to settle down in or a more famous fellowship that is in a different region?

How do you evaluate programs on interview day?  Certainly, there is a wide distribution in call expectations.  Some programs like MSKCC require ED coverage call.  I guess this could be useful if you plan to do general radiology and not 100% breast imaging in your career.

I like Body imaging and I don’t think you need 12 months of breast to become a great breast imager so I’d pick Cornell!  Any thoughts MGH vs BWH?

Some people prefer to use the community login to post anonymously. Im sure each of the posts above are from different people. At least that what it seems like from the way the write.

Are there more positions than applicants again this year?

Match data from last year shows we’ll probably match to one of our top two choices!

Any word on SBI Match? The Twitterverse is pretty quiet too.

                      Breast Imaging:
82 programs, 33 (40%) programs went unfilled (atleast 1 unfilled spot)
                      166 positions, 44 (26%) unfilled

Looks like similar match rate compared to prior years. Maybe the match isn’t working in favor of all programs and lots going unmatched. Hard for programs to fill after the match and having even one less fellow is a huge pain.

40 plus ir applicants didnt match. Mammo is option for them.
