  • Anyone else having unemployment fraud scams?

A couple weeks ago I got a letter from Ohio jobs and family services with a PIN for logging into their site.  Which tipped me off someone tried to claim unemployment as me.  I reported it and ended up hearing from HR a week later.  They also reported back to OH it was fraud.  We recently got an email from HR to everyone about unemployment fraud and they’re opening up open enrollment for people to enroll in All State ID theft service for like $5 a check.  I’m taking them up on that.

I’m wondering if this is unique to OH or even this workplace.  Makes me wonder if the workplace employee data was breached.  I know at least a few people including rads who have had these bogus unemployment claims.  Or if other people are seeing this around the country.

Not unique. Billions of dollars from the ‘new’ federal UI program rolled out in the spring went straight to Elbonia. Some people had figured out how to automatically upload thousands of claims including bank routing information. The automatic approval system approved them and pushed out the money within hours. Probably an inside job.
