• Andrew Yang: It’s time for physicians to pass on the torch to NP + Automation

Andrew Yang: It’s time for physicians to pass on the torch to NP + Automation

What does everyone think of Andrew Yang’s audiobook, particular the section on healthcare..
The war on normal people: [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ0f4GlbSUw]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ0f4GlbSUw[/link] (5 hours 57 minutes)
Key points
1.  He cites his work in adopting EMR systems in the early-2000s, stating that the physicians he worked, particular surgeons, were more interested in getting on the golf course rather than doing the best for patients and adopting new technology
2.  He says being a physician should no longer be a way to become wealthy. You should have a comfortable life, but it should not be the path to the riches
3.  He says physicians are to blame regarding rising healthcare costs, ordering unnecessary tests to cover themselves
4.  He says that most of the work that a PCP can and should be done by automation + NP
5.  He says it’s the fault of the AAMC for artificially reducing medical school spots to keep salaries up. He sites that he new very bright people that couldn’t do well in organic chemistry were rejected from med school, all over a course that most medical students should use

Overall, the point Yang makes is that we should thank physicians for their work up to this point, but recognize they should no longer call the shots in one’s healthcare, and instead they should pass on the touch and accept lower compensation.

I brought the thread here to hear what the AuntMinnie community has to say about Andrew Yang’s ideas.

LOL what a clown.  He is welcome to ask for only NP and computer care next time he visits the ER.

Not surprising when someone from another field tries to weigh in “what he thinks is wrong” in a field he knows nothing about.  It’s a common fallacy.

I’ve been trying to imagine a world where we have a fully automated health care system.
You get sick, so you go to the hospital, and greeted a “smart AI” machine who takes your HPI. Maybe some robots to take your blood pressure, physical exam, take blood samples, so on and so forth.
If this were really to be the case, wouldn’t everyone else but the doctors be at risk to lose their jobs?

…. As I’m writing this, I’m realizing how more idiotic his ideas are.

That was my first thought. I want to see how he goes to an NP for something like unexplained weight loss or a new scotoma.

But then, we already have some ERs that have gone the NP+automation route in our system. Patient comes through the door, is seen by a NP and automatically gets a CT.

Yes, classic halo effect

like that chiro guy, probably a reiteration of a former poster. Heck, if they can claim I am someone else, I should too.

As long as it’s not a lefty moron like Yang

I especially loved this one. Most if not all of those points are wrong … in what world is he even living in? Maybe for a 70 year old that used to be true.

Every patient that sees an NP effectively gets a physician consult in the form of a radiologist. Yesterday: 20F who has been somewhat fatigued for 2 days. Outpatient. No other health problems. Zero respiratory symptoms. No lab workup, HPI with irrelevant shit youd expect from an MS1. But sure lets radiate a young woman to Rule out PE just for the hell of it. Happens daily and is their way of a backdoor physician consult. Have fun with that level of horrendous care.

We should lobby that we are primary care and get some extra benefits 😉

Like most things lefty, the opposite is the actual truth: Radiologists for Yang are the first to be replaced.

Reality? The entire system is dependent on rads.

Leftism is a spiritual and mental disease. Proven again.
