Putin did not invade Ukraine under the far right bogeyman, Donald Trump. He waited until a feeble shell of a man was in charge. If Trump was a Russian asset or a Putin sympathizer, dont you think they wouldve had an under the table agreement to let Russia run over Ukraine while he was in office? Putin would not have dared invade during a Trump administration. In fact, we had peace in the Middle East. There was no Russia- Ukraine war. China was not looming over Taiwan like they currently are. They were not 6 million illegals pouring across the southern border.

Those are the facts. Democrats just cant help themselves with the fake Russian hoaxes.

And every single thing I said about todays authoritarian left is true

Ummm, changing the subject. Besides Donnie would have held the Ukraine door open for Putin to invade a peaceful neighbor for no reason other than reestablishing the Soviet empire.

Donnie would have folded like a cheap suite. Like a cheap lawn chair.

If Donnie wouldve opened the door for Russia, why didnt he?

Why did Putin wait till big bad Joe Biden came in?

You are brainwashed to think that everything republican is compromised by Russia. Yet every such Russian story has turned out to be a hoax conjured up by the Democrats and perpetuated by the main stream media (2016 election interference, pee-gate, trump is a Russian asset, etc.)

This reminds us all of why we vote how we vote

Republicans are

1. Pro gun in every home

2. Anti womens right to choose

3. Pro Russian

4. Anti critical race theory transgender drag shows books that talk about slavery

Basically these are the issues important to you if you vote Republican

Thats what I see as a voter

I remember having similar discussions with Mistrad lamenting the imperfections of all candidates, in his case specifically Republican ones as he would not vote Democrat under any circumstances. My argument was that no such thing as perfect candidate except for brief moments for only a segment of voters also at brief moments. There however are good candidates, at that time even a few Republican ones.

Do not make the perfect the enemy of the good. Right now the question is who could win a majority of College votes? Biden has proven he can. Who of the others could do that?

both candidates have issues.  Biden probably has to push that you may not like me, but I’m not a raving lunatic.  Also message about how the GOP wants to rob everyone of their freedoms.  Look at all the abortion stuff the GOP is doing around the US.

If the Republicans would knock it off on their crusade on outlawing all abortion, I think it would put them over the top in many races.

For some people, this issue alone can make them vote Democrat.

Hey – we agree on something .. at least partly

The Dobbs decision was going to be advantage Dems even if the GOP went silent on abortion in the aftermath. The decision itself swings a lot of women to the D column

Add constant and relentless and, frankly, cruel Republican bills at the state level and a public GOP national campaign for a federal abortion ban and you have an issue that may well galvanize the Democratic coalition for many cycles to come, overriding candidate quality

& for some without that crusade, many would not vote Republican on that alone, the many being the core Republicans.

Its definitely an issue that resonates with women especially young women

But the republicans have bigger issues

Simply put they have no solutions all they have is anger and vitriol and hatred

I honestly and I say this sincerely- I have no idea what a conservative is today and what they stand for

They use to be a fiscally responsible group that endorsed morality and family values

Today they are snarky culture warriors who hate everyone and are obsessed with winning internet fights and owning the libs

When republicans were in charge 2016-18 they did nothing to fix the border problems and they spent more money than any prior congesss

The face of the party used to be Reagan and bush and Romney and McCain today the face of the party is Trump Marjorie Greene Boebert and Gaetz

Not exactly Goldwater conservatives

2. Anti womens right to choose THIS IS A NUANCED DISCUSSION BUT I THINK HEARTBEAT BILLS ARE IGNORANT. ELECTIVE ABORTION UP TO THE DAY OF BIRTH SHOULD BE CRIMINAL. Abortion is about 50th on my list of importance in a candidate.

3. Pro Russian I think Russia is a threat and were kept in check by Trump. As was China. Bidens weak a$$ doesnt scare anyone.

4. Anti critical race theory transgender drag shows books that talk about slavery. THESE ARE ALL STUPID BULLSHT DEMOCRAT TALKING POINTS TO DIVIDE PEOPLE AND DISTRACT FROM REAL ISSUES.

You are missing something – like thought. Why would Putin not invade Ukraine under Trump? Because he was afraid of Trump?

ROTFLMFAO

He had taken Donnies measure long ago. At least since Russian’s meeting at Trump Tower; at least w Lavrovs meeting in Oval Office as Donnie giving away intelligence to Lavrov;

[link=https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-idUSKCN18B2MX]https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia-idUSKCN18B2MX[/link]

since Vlads meeting with a very subservient Donnie in Helsinki.

[link=https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/16/politics/2018-trump-putin-summit-what-happened/index.html]https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/16/politics/2018-trump-putin-summit-what-happened/index.html[/link]

So why indeed.

Putin wants NATO destroyed. Donnie was doing all that for him without Vlad lifting a finger. Vlad knew invading Ukraine would unite NATO. Biden started re-uniting NATO after Donnie undermined that trust with our European allies. We now see results of Bidens & Vlads work as Europe has united against Putin & Finland & neutral Sweden have applied for NATO membership.

Donnie was always Vlads useful idiot.

Vlad fears Biden.
Town Halls shows Trump still has a general election problem
Trumps struggles with suburban women arent going away anytime soon, and its hard to see his performance on Wednesday helping.

He joked as he discussed rape allegations raised against him by Carroll, who won a $5 million lawsuit this week after a jury determined Trump sexually abused and later defamed her. He doubled down on the comments he made in the infamous Access Hollywood video leak, insisting that it is a known fact for a million years that the wealthy and famous can have their way with women. And he called Collins, the female moderator, a nasty person.

But on the issue of abortion, a major liability for Republicans, Trump wasnt so quick to brush aside the opinion of the undecided female vote. Pressed repeatedly by Collins about whether he would support some form of a national abortion ban something some of his GOP rivals have conceded, under pressure by anti-abortion advocates, that they would do Trump refused to agree.

He threw some bones to the anti-abortion camp, calling the Dobbs decision an incredible thing for pro-life and bragging about his role in the process. Trump said, without elaborating, that he would negotiate and make a deal that would be satisfactory for the movement.

It was not Trump who surprised me watching the town hall, all he did was repeat and harden his past statements about everything like let’s default the American economy in the name of spending cuts. Funny how he did not support default when he passed his massive tax cuts in the middle of the still growing Obama economy.

No, the surprise was the audience. I had not realized the audience was filtered to have only Republicans attending when I put it on, although <5 min in it was very apparent with all the clapping and cheering to every word coming out of the liar’s mouth.

Watching the audience it is very clear that 70% of Republicans, if not more, believe Trump & his stolen election claims among others. They either believe or suspend thought.

I think Trump being their nominee is a slam-dunk regardless of the WSJ article/opinion that no way would/could Trump be the nominee and all the comments stating a belief that Democrats are somehow forcing Trump as the nominee because Democrats see him as the weakest link. Yesterday’s CNN show proved he is the strongest Republican unless something happens to change everything.

Like a Trump heart attack? He looked like sh1t on TV last night, fatter & clearly under pressure.

I thought Katylin Collins did a good job of challenging Trump’s lies and bogus claims – which was almost every single word he said. Challenges while the audience clapped approval for Trump’s statements.

Mr. Trumps [link=https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-donald-trump-and-cnn-found-each-other-again-66c9c85c?mod=hp_lead_pos7&mod=article_inline]first appearance in a CNN event since 2016[/link], already a high-wire affair, took on greater significance following Tuesdays civil case verdict, adding to his pile of legal troubles as he tries to maintain dominance over a still growing 2024 GOP presidential primary field.

Mr. Trump sought to keep the focus on President Biden and control the pacing of the event, talking over CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, and pulling from his jacket a paper to make pointsparticularly about the 2020 election results. She often tried to correct his claims, but Mr. Trump often kept going.

Youre a nasty person, he said.

************

Jaime Harrison, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said in a statement that the event showcased a dangerous, extreme candidate who seeks to undermine democracy and is the frontrunner for the nomination of a party that is increasingly beholden to its most right-wing fringes.

*************

Some viewers took to Twitter to voice their criticisms of CNN for hosting the event and giving Mr. Trump a platform before a friendly audience.

The problem is not Kaitlin Collins, Amanda Carpenter, a former aide to Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted: The problem is a media establishment and a Republican Party that is dedicated to normalizing a radical and dangerous political figure.

Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News host, said on Twitter that This is promulgating the cult leadership of Trump and people are laughing at sexual assault.

I thought Kaitlin Collins did a great job

Stood her ground and repeatedly told Trump
Straight up – No that is not correct

Trump is a master at repeating a lie over and over again to the point that it becomes acceptable

But this election lying is one point the democrats hold him accountable on everytime it is repeated they say – No thats a lie and it frustrates trump and the trumpers because they too know its Bullsheet and its not working

But Collins stood her ground and let trump make himself look old and angry and just foolish

We know Trump is going to be Trump. We know that people at MAGA rallies are gonna be MAGAts

But what was supposed to be a politically informed crowd of deliberative primary voters showing themselves to be just as bad … that was   depressing.

Its coming down to eating dog shit (Trump) or drinking window cleaner (Biden) again.  Cant believe these are the best people both parties can put up for president.

The best of anything is no guarantee to win as events prove that over and over. Just consider Donnie in 2016, was he anywhere near the best?

It is who can win the most Electoral College votes and who runs and who wins is entirely up to the voters. Like it or not, Biden and TRump have already proven the 2 of them are the only candidates who will and can win enough votes. Unless you can point out a Republican who could beat Trump first before winning the College votes; or a Democrat who could beat Trump?

As for your comparison, Trump is about drinking bleach, Biden about sour milk. You might not like the taste of sour milk but it will not kill you & it is still nutritious.

Blame the voters regardless, not the candidates.

But Youngkins contention that the Democratic response in 2016 equates with the Republican response to 2020 runs into trouble. The Democrats, while questioning events that occurred during the campaign, didnt contend there was widespread vote-counting fraud that flipped the election.

The Democratic leaders cited by Youngkins office also made a distinction about 2016 that Trump and his followers did not about 2020. While the Democrats rejected the legitimacy of Trumps presidency based on the oddities of the campaign, they acknowledged that he won the election.

Ruling: Russell’s video is misleading at best. Another attempt at “both sides” equalizing, the sort that Putin and Trump use saying America is just as bad as people like Putin.
Abortion Issue Puts North Carolina in Play
North Carolina Republicans jumped out on a limb this week when they passed a controversial new abortion ban. Democrats are now rushing to saw it off, [link=https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/20/politics/abortion-ban-north-carolina-democrats-2024/index.html]CNN[/link] reports.

The state GOP legislative supermajoritys decision to override Democratic Gov. Roy Coopers veto of the measure sharpened the stakes for next years elections and gave Democrats new impetus to invest up and down the North Carolina ballot.

At the top of the ticket, President Joe Bidens campaign is already drawing up plans to focus on the ban, which outlaws most abortions after 12 weeks, in its bid to win a state last captured by a Democratic presidential candidate in 2008.

A few things about this article that give me some comfort:

“Were well aware any independent ticket faces a steep climb, and if our rigorously gathered data and polling suggests an independent unity ticket cant win, we will not nominate a ticket, she said.”

“One of No Labels founders, William Galston, a former policy aide to President Bill Clinton, publicly resigned from his own organization over the push. In an interview, he pointed to polling saying that voters who dislike both Trump and Biden double haters say overwhelmingly they would vote for Biden in the end. Given an alternative, that might not be the case.”

“And Democratic members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a centrist coalition aligned with No Labels that actually does No Labels legislative work, are in open revolt.”

The Problem Solvers Caucus is the backbone of No Labels. Hope they listen to the members. Would be a shame to let all of that work go to waste.

[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/05/22/biden-trump-2024-focus-groups/]Washington Post[/link]:

Concerns about Bidens reelection swamped by fear of Trump in swing voter focus groups

Whatever the step above panicked is, that is what I feel about Trump, said one of the voters, who picked Trump in 2016 then Biden in 2020
The results of two focus groups conducted for The Washington Post by research firms [link=https://engagious.com/]Engagious[/link] and [link=https://sago.com/en/]Sago[/link] echoed research that Democratic strategists have been doing in recent months in preparation for the 2024 presidential campaign. Public polling has shown clear majorities of the American people including many Democratic-leaning voters are [link=https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/05/07/biden-mental-sharpness-physical-health-poll/?itid%3Dlk_inline_manual_4&sa=D&source=docs&ust=1684589104750479&usg=AOvVaw1HIHiS6YfrhGbw4A2zNr6d&itid=lk_inline_manual_11]concerned about Bidens health[/link] and [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/04/24/biden-2024-presidential-election/?itid=lk_inline_manual_11]do not want him to run again[/link]. But in both focus groups and polling, concerns about another Trump presidency are even greater, leaving Biden in a much better position if the two men meet in a rematch.

The results suggest the possibility of a frustrating and dispiriting election season for many Americans who, like the participants in The Post groups, do not want to see either of the front-runners for the Democratic and Republican nominations as their next president. The participants in the focus groups included eight independents, four Democrats and three Republicans from Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin, who were screened for participation by their 2016 vote for Trump and 2020 vote for Biden. Nine of the participants were White, four were Black and two were Asian American.

Seven years later, most no longer gave {Trump} the benefit of the doubt, criticizing his character, his social media use and bringing up the criminal investigations into his conduct. All participants said that they wished Trump was not running again. The words this group of voters reserved for Trump tended to be far more negative than Biden. Asked how they would feel if the former president was reelected, voters used words like nervous, scared, shocked, sick, and horrified.
Scott said another Trump term would make him feel like I was living in Nazi Germany.

GOP Polling Memo Finds Big Swing to Democrats:

A Republican polling memo obtained by Roll Call finds the generic ballot has shifted toward Democrats, with Republicans losing ground among independents on the abortion issue.

The memo found a 6 point swing in the last year on the Generic Senate ballot from R+3 to D+3 led overwhelmingly by independent and new voters that identify abortion as one of their top issues.

The poll had similar findings on the House side with a 10 point swing in the last year on the Generic House Ballot from R+6 to D+4.

I’m sorry dergon. I know this makes you nervous if not “panicked”. Just got this as an email. I’ll be with one of the “whale” financial supporters tomorrow. I am going to do my best to discover how much of a risk they are willing to take regarding handing the election to Trump. Doubt they have that intention, but I’ll pass it on if it feels that way.

“Hi Friend,

In their quest to dampen enthusiasm and eliminate competition, one thing Democrat and Republican partisans recite as gospel is that it is impossible for an independent to win a presidential campaign in this country.

These partisans are ignoring that a major shift in dynamics is
occurring, creating a wide-open lane for a moderate independent ticket.

Historically, our electorate has featured 40% voting for Democrats, 40% voting for Republicans, and 20% being unaffiliated, issues-based voters.

But today, the situation has significantly worsened for the two major parties as they have both shed support from center-oriented voters who perceive both the right and the left as increasingly pandering to activists and the extremes of each party.

Recent polling data indicates a new split: 35% leaning Democrat, 35% leaning Republican, and a full 30% who are unaffiliated, issues-based voters.

Yes, close to a third of voters today are issue-driven voters looking for solutions to the nations problems. These voters will determine the winner in 2024.

The expansion of this group gives an unprecedented opening for an independent ticket to run.

Additionally, when faced with a hypothetical Trump v. Biden rematch, 59 percent of voters have expressed their willingness to consider another option.

A third party candidate would need just 61 percent of the total 59 percent who already say they do not want a Trump-Biden rematch. That’s 36% of the electorate. To put it another way, an independent moderate ticket would only need to sway a mere 6% of Trump or Biden supporters.

The last independent candidate running with an appeal to Americas vast middle was Ross Perot in 1992, who won 19% of the vote and never surpassed 36% in the best polls. History is filled with examples of candidates who were initially deemed unable to win, such as Ronald Reagan, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump.

It may be unprecedented in modern American politics, but it is hardly impossible.

Ryan Clancy
Chief Strategist, No Labels”

Pences Weak Case Against Biden

But what is really striking to us about his launch ad, and the reason we pulled apart this one section in such detail, is how precarious Pences case against Biden is on a number of fronts. His campaign had to cherry-pick articles about the economy that dont quite support his picture of economic calamity. The southern border, to everyones surprise, has experienced a precipitous drop in crossings since the end of Title 42. Pence uses a pre-war opinion piece about Biden not standing up to Putin, when the big news this week is how House Republicans are threatening to block a substantial aid package to assist Ukraine.

That points to a general problem that any GOP nominee will face: Despite Bidens poor poll numbers, he is not yet presiding over the kind of economic or foreign policy disaster that historically creates a one-term president which might be one reason that the video also leans heavily on culture war grievances that target groups with little to do with the economy and foreign policy: BLM, trans rights activists, drag show performers.

Things could change, of course. Higher inflation or a recession could overwhelm the other positive economic data. The war in Ukraine could spiral out of control. We could go to war with China over Taiwan. Other issues related to Bidens age or some new scandal could intrude.

But on the two big fronts that can often decide the fate of an incumbent president the economy and war even a gifted political opponent such as Mike Pence is having a tough time making a case against Biden.
( not sure I would call Pence’s political skills “gifted” but …)

[link=https://michaelpodhorzer.substack.com/p/the-emerging-anti-maga-majority]https://michaelpodhorzer….ing-anti-maga-majority[/link]
The Emerging Anti-MAGA Majority

Trump has fundamentally remade the electorate. Democrats can take advantage of this.
After Trump won in 2016, it was clear that Democrats had to find a path to winning more votes in the battleground states. In that panic, many argued that Democrats had to win back the alternately labeled Obama-Trump voters, working class voters, etc. But seven years later, two things are clear:
[ul][*] The 10 million people who did not vote in 2016, but have since, have rejected Trump and MAGA in every one of the last three elections by large enough margins to overcome Republicans original advantage in those states; and
[*] Despite literally billions of dollars of effort, very few of those who defected to Trump in 2016 came back, and those basically are a wash with those who have defected from Clinton to Trump.
[/ul]

Thus, theres no reason to listen to those who still think Democrats need to focus on winning back Trump-leaning voters instead of simply doing everything necessary to maintain the support of those who have already rejected Trump/MAGA and continue to turn them out, along with mobilizing those voters aging into the electorate. Nor is there any reason to listen to those who panic at any survey which shows Biden substantially behind, unless that survey also shows massive defections from people who voted for him in 2020.

A Split Screen of Campaign and Criminal Trials
[link=https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-faces-2024-split-screen-of-campaign-and-criminal-trials-d8d49536]Wall Street Journal[/link]
Donald Trump is about to have his fate decided by both jurors and voters.”

The indictment of the former president assures that his legal woes will be the focal point of the Republican presidential primary contest, with the possibility he will have to shuttle between courtrooms and the campaign trail. They will also likely be a central element of the 2024 general election, regardless of who is on the ballot, further dividing a politically polarized country.

The charges against Trump for mishandling classified documents come as members of each political party already view the others as a threat to the nation, polling shows. Republicans will see the case as a Democratic president persecuting their leading figure, prompting many GOP voters to demand a strong response from their presidential candidates, while Democrats will view Republicans as standing by an alleged criminal.
[link=https://politicalwire.com/2023/06/10/a-referendum-on-trump-again/]2024: A Referendum on Trump Again[/link]
Teagan Goddard:

Despite [link=https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/biden-approval-rating/?ex_cid=rrpromo]historically low approval ratings[/link] and a big majority of Americans [link=https://civiqs.com/results/track_country?uncertainty=true&annotations=true&zoomIn=true]believing the country is on the wrong track[/link], Joe Biden has to be favored to win re-election. Thats because Donald Trump will be on the ballot whether Republicans want him there or not. If Trump wins the Republican presidential nomination, the campaign will be about whether his criminal behavior is acceptable.
….
If convicted before the election, Trump might even run on pardoning himself. If Trump is not the Republican nominee, its almost certain the GOP candidate will pledge to pardon Trump if they win. Nearly every Republican has come to Trumps defense since his indictment in an attempt to inherit Trumps support if hes somehow forced from the race. And promising a pardon may be the eventual GOP nominees only way to ensure Trumps supporters turn out to vote in a general election.

Biden has avoided commenting on Trumps case, but he must recognize his good fortune.

The Trump Divide Should Have Republicans Terrified
[link=https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/06/22/trump-indictment-gop-nomination-00103015]Rich Lowry[/link]: Not only that, the indictments of Trump are making him stronger in the Republican nomination fight generating GOP sympathy and making him the center of attention while hes taking on more baggage for a prospective general election. This push-and-pull, yin-and-yang dynamic, with Republicans growing more attached to a candidate harder to elect, may yet prove decisive in both contests.

Its not unusual that, in the course of winning a nomination, politicians create electoral vulnerabilities for themselves by moving too far right or left. Hence, the conventional trajectory of a nominee trying to readjust by coming back to the center in a general.

This is different. What adjustments can Trump make? He cant get un-indicted for the general election, or jettison his claims about the 2020 election, or reverse all the water that passed under the bridge since 2015.

Trump needs to be asked:

You keep on insisting the 2020 election was stolen. If you really think the election was stolen from you, what makes you think it will not be stolen from you again? And what are you going to do to prevent it?

“We won the 2020 election. We won it by a lot. By numbers nobody has seen before.  And we’ll win in 2024. We’re going to a have a plan to stop the RADICAL MARXIST COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS from stealing the election.  It’s the best plan and we’re going to have it. It’s a plan that’s going to work for everyone and will be the best plan.  We’ll stop the steal and the end the voter fraud. Because TRUMP won in 2020 and TRUMP will win with his great plan to win by winning in 2024.”
