Top Republican Wants to Move FBI to Alabama
Republicans have a new idea for how to take Washington politics out of the FBI: Take the FBI out of Washington and send it to Huntsville, Ala., the [link=https://www.wsj.com/articles/republican-eyes-sweet-home-for-new-fbi-headquarters-in-alabama-479b19d8?st=stua104hgum5deh]Wall Street Journal[/link] reports.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), who has accused the bureau of overzealously investigating former President Donald Trump and his allies, wants to strip the bureau of funding for a new headquarters, people familiar with the matter said, unless it relocates to the midsize Alabama city a 700-mile drive from the nations capital.
The Huntsville proposal, which Jordan plans to attach to coming appropriations bills, is unlikely to become law but marks Republicans latest effort to force changes to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It comes as the bureau is inching closer to moving from its current headquarters, a brutalist, concrete behemoth blocks from the White House, to the citys suburbs.

House Votes to Limit Abortion Access in the Military
A divided House voted on Thursday to restrict abortion access, bar transgender health services and limit diversity training for military personnel, potentially imperiling passage of the annual defense bill as Republicans, goaded by their right flank, loaded the measure with conservative policy dictates, the [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/13/us/politics/house-republicans-defense-bill.html]New York Times[/link] reports.
The House voted 221 to 213 to overturn a Pentagon policy guaranteeing abortion access to service members regardless of where they are stationed, with Republicans propelling it to passage over near-unanimous Democratic opposition.

By a vote of 222 to 211, the House also adopted a measure to bar the militarys health plan from covering gender-transition surgeries which currently can be covered only with a waiver and gender-affirming hormone therapy. And the chamber voted 214 to 213 to eliminate the Pentagons offices of diversity, equity and inclusion, along with all of their personnel.
House Passes Defense Authorization Bill
The House passed the defense authorization bill on a nearly party-line vote, 219 to 210.
Several controversial amendments were added to the bill addressing abortion, transgender medical care and diversity initiatives.
The House bill will go nowhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

GOP Centrists Threaten Hardline Tactics on Tax Bill
A group of House Republican centrists is taking a page from their hardliner colleagues, demanding critical changes to their partys signature tax plan and threatening to hold the bill up until they get it, [link=https://www.politico.com/news/2023/07/17/gop-tax-plan-problems-00106436]Politico[/link] reports.

A small band of Republicans from New York, New Jersey and California is effectively blocking the House GOPs tax plan from reaching the floor anytime soon as they seek relief for taxpayers back home whove been hit with heftier bills due to a Trump-era tax law that limited a key deduction.

I can see the impeachment hearing.  We feel like Joe biden is corrupt.  We don’t have evidence, but we just feel it.
House GOP Tax Cut Stalled over SALT Deduction
The Ways and Means Committee marked up three bills on June 13 the Tax Cuts for Working Families Act, the Small Business Jobs Act and the Build It In America Act, [link=https://punchbowl.news/archive/8123-punchbowl-news-am/]Punchbowl News[/link] reports.

Since then, the GOP-drafted package has sat dormant in committee. House Republican leadership hasnt shown any sign theyre prepared to bring the measure to the floor.

We canvassed the House GOP leadership and committee on Monday, and its clear the legislation has no pathway to final passage at the moment. Without any Democratic support, there are significant concerns that House Republicans cant muster 218 votes to pass the legislation which isnt going anywhere in the Democratic-run Senate anyway.

The biggest drawback Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smiths (R-MO) proposal doesnt do anything to address SALT, the state and local tax deduction that Republicans capped under former President Donald Trump until 2025. The New York delegation and other Northeasterners have told Republican leaders they oppose the bill for that reason.
House GOP Memo Suggests Signals Impeachment Inquiry Coming
[link=https://punchbowl.news/archive/81023-punchbowl-news-am/]Punchbowl News[/link]:

Tucked inside a memo released by House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) on Wednesday is one of the clearest signs yet that a potential House GOP impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden is coming this fall.

President Bidens Family is the Vehicle to Receive Bribery Payments, Oversight Republicans asserted on the [link=https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Third-Bank-Records-Memorandum_Redacted.pdf]third page of the memo,[/link] which detailed over $20 million in payments from foreign oligarchs to shell companies controlled by Hunter Biden and his business associates.

Its a stunning claim for Comer to make, and it isnt backed up by evidence of any bribe given to Joe Biden at least none seen so far. Yet the repeated allegations by Comer against Biden show the direction House Republicans are moving in on an impeachment inquiry.

Up to this point, Republicans havent tied any official actions by Biden as vice president to the money received by Hunter Biden, other family members or their business associates. The Republicans basic thrust is that there has to be corruption or something illegal going on because it all seems so sordid.
House Republicans Want Joe Biden to Testify
The top Republican on the House Oversight Committee intends to call President Joe Biden to testify in an ongoing investigation into the overseas business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden, [link=https://time.com/6304319/hunter-biden-investigation-presidents-testify-house-oversight/]Time[/link] reports.

Such a move would set off a tug of war between Congress and the White House, but its unlikely Biden would ultimately be forced to appear. Its very rare for a sitting President to testify before Congressional committees, and no sitting president has ever been forced to answer questions in front of Congress.
Only three sitting Presidents have ever testified before Congressional committeesAbraham Lincoln in 1862, Woodrow Wilson in 1919, and Gerald Ford in 1974and they all appeared voluntarily.
Impeachment Articles Introduced Against Biden
Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) has introduced impeachment articles against President Biden, coming as the first member of his Republican party colleagues to jump-start the process, the [link=https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/house/republican-congressman-introduces-impeachment-articles-biden?utm_source=ground.news&utm_medium=referral]Washington Examiner[/link] reports.

The articles charge the president with complicity in his son Hunter Bidens alleged crimes, who he is accusing of helping to shield him from prosecution.
McCarthy Threatens Impeachment Inquiry
Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) warned Tuesday that the House could launch an impeachment inquiry as soon as September if the Biden administration doesnt turn over documents including some that were apparently never requested by the GOP, [link=https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4165602-mccarthy-house-could-launch-impeachment-inquiry-when-we-come-back-into-session/?email=066c0990fa413d52c3842f29a42abb22ffa00eae&emaila=02c3337a6605235631b8cab2e023d54e&emailb=e0d37ab6f97ed06914f0e75a1ebed673001a81f7f84978ff9209f3e23f7ba5d3&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=08.22.23%20CD%20McCarthy%20launch%20impeachment]The Hill[/link] reports.

——-

My $0.02 — looks like starting a Biden impeachment is going to be the price McCarthy has to pay the Freedom Caucus to keep his speakership after he puts a clean CR on the floor that passes with Democratic votes to avoid a prolonged shutdown.

Whats stopping him from just working with dems to keep his speakership and make it so no one ever hears/sees MTG or Bobo again?

Pert of the Speaker agreement is a motion to vacate the chair … and one person on the GOP side can move to take him out

The cost of getting Democrats to actually *support* McCarthy for Speaker in a floor vote would be very, very steep ….

Donald Trump [link=https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/110963746628215974]issued an ultimatum[/link] to House Republicans, angry that their talk of an impeachment inquiry against President Biden has not yet amounted to meaningful action.

Said Trump: Biden is a Stone Cold Crook-You dont need a long INQUIRY to prove it, its already proven.

He added: These lowlifes Impeached me TWICE (I WON!), and Indicted me FOUR TIMES For NOTHING! Either IMPEACH the BUM, or fade into OBLIVION. THEY DID IT TO US!
White House Launches War Room, Ready for Biden Impeachment
[link=https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/joe-biden/white-house-war-room-gop-impeachment-inquiry-joe-biden-rcna102766]NBC News[/link]: The White House has stood up a [link=https://politicaldictionary.com/words/war-room/]war room[/link] of two dozen lawyers, legislative aides and communications staffers to lead an aggressive response to a likely Republican impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The effort, as described by eight people familiar with the plans, has been taking shape for months in the White House counsels office as part of the response to Republican-led House investigations. Bidens aides and allies say they are preparing to vigorously push back against an impeachment inquiry and present it as an evidence-free partisan sham that shows a GOP penchant for chaos

Biden aides have looked to 1998, when the House impeached President Bill Clinton, as a model for how to mount an effective defense and make the GOP pay a political price for overreaching said a source familiar with the strategy. If Republicans follow through with threats of an impeachment inquiry in the coming weeks or months, the White House plans to try to present a split-screen in which the president is focused on economic issues that affect peoples lives.

If the quacks in the house actually get to do this I really don’t see the point.  It’s just a way to get more bona fides as a Trump loser.  This is DOA and I’d hope even most senate republicans would crap all over this.

New messaging.  Instead of providing competent government we’re going to pull some lame brain BS for TV.

Go ahead. Do it, I dare you. If you can find the votes, go ahead, because youre going to lose. Its a loser. It would just be like a big circle jerk on the fringe right. Sometimes you just gotta call their bullshit. If theyre going to threaten, then lets see it.
House GOP Will Try to Impeach Biden for Bribery
[link=https://themessenger.com/politics/republicans-narrow-in-on-bribery-charge-for-biden-impeachment-probe]The Messenger[/link]
’There was money flowing to the son of the vice president turned president,’ Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, tells The Messenger on why he wants to impeach Biden

This is not, Oh my God, you were in Washington, D.C., on January 6 so we’re going to send every frigging power of law enforcement after you or your family. This is literally: There was money flowing to the son of the vice president turned president, Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, a leading proponent of impeaching Biden, told The Messenger.
….
That money was coming from foreign countries, said Roy, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, the panel that would be tasked with initiating an impeachment proceeding against President Biden. The vice president and then president was then lying about his knowledge about it. We know that to be true.

Why? “For his role in the Biden Crime Familys acceptance of tens of millions of dollars in bribes from foreign countries,”Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., who sits on the House Oversight Committee, said.
