Biden vs Trump Approval
Posted by morningdew.reina_107 on April 26, 2021 at 3:59 pmAfter 100 days, the great unifier who campaigned as a moderate healer but has governed as a socialist tyrant is now officially more divisive than Trump at the same time in his presidency.
Bidens approval rating is 9% among repubs which is a gap of 81 compared to dems, even a wider than the 76 point partisan gap for Trump in April 2017.

Ocasio-Cortez said that she and others expected Biden to be “a lot more conservative,” adding that Biden has “exceeded expectations that progressives had.”
When AOC is praising the work you’ve done, there is a good chance you aren’t seriously looking to unify the nation…

Biden is a lot more conservative than the rhetoric coming out the WH. The issue is that Biden is not around anymore and lost in a land of dementia and passive old-man land.

Does anyone really think that *any* Democratic President would have a higher level of support from Republicans (or vice versa)? Do you really think it is tied to policy actions? I sure as hell don’t.
I see that metric as entirely driven by political polarization which is simply increasing for each successive Presidency. The days of members of the opposite party giving the new guy a chance are simply over.
-
Any Democratic president would experience the identical “support” from Republicans seen by Clinton, Obama and now Biden, zero support.
All this nonsense about Biden not being a unity president is nothing but political posturing as unity is the anathema of Republicans, this is only about division. Both Clinton and Obama used and passed Republican ideas and were hated even more by Republicans. Recall, “The era of big government is over” and the Affordable Care Act built directly on the Heritage Plan of the 1990’s and “Romneycare.” As McConnell pledged in December of 2008, no Republican will vote for anything Obama tries to pass, regardless of everything. -
No. Hence why bidens true approval is roughly the same as trumps accounting for the 5% dem poll bias that’s been shown over the past few cycles. Biden probably has more undecideds and less disapproval though.
Something like 45-48 approval and 42-44 disapproval is probably the real measure if those crazy trump people were actually able to be polled properly
-
Both Trump and Biden had near universal support/opposition from partisans (accelerating a bit as time goes on … but essentially the same dynamic)
Biden just does about 20 points better with independents than Trump did. (60-40 for Biden as opposed to 40-60 for Trump)
That gives Biden about 10 points more than Trump in his overall approval numbers.
As discussed in the Biden approval thread, Biden’s numbers are just the inverse of Trump-
Unless something changes with the media and the accessibility of data/news, then this will likely be the same for all presidents – 45-55% approval

Biden trumps approval amongst partisans is the same but Biden doing much muc much better with independents
2022 midterms are a tossup right now but the new census gives the republicans a slight advantage
Democrats need to do a few things (infrastructure and calm consistent leadership) and hope the republicans continue the batsheet crazy Q-Anon and conspiracy anti-science mantra

Some new Trump polling…
Trumps Support Softens Now That Hes Out of Office:
A new NBC News poll finds former President Donald Trumps favorable rating has fallen to 32%, while 55% view him unfavorably.
Even Trumps pull within his own party appears to have lessened, with 44% of Republicans saying theyre more supporters of Trump than the GOP, versus 50% who say theyre more supporters of the GOP than the former president.
-
Looks like independent support varies widely
47% in this one: [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/04/25/biden-100-days-poll/]https://www.washingtonpos…5/biden-100-days-poll/[/link]
61% in this one: [link=https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/poll-100-days-biden-s-approval-remains-strong-can-honeymoon-n1265199]https://www.nbcnews.com/p…can-honeymoon-n1265199[/link]
Probably based on whether those are really “leaners”
In any case, Biden’s approval is completely propped up by covid – the only issue he hasn’t actively done the opposite of Trump.-

That will shrink their numbers with independents and the college educated even further

That is the exact *opposite* of what I hope happens.
That is a recipe to make for civil unrest and violence on a scale that makes Jan 6 look like skip through the park and that invites a future authoritarian who can harness their grievances to take power through anti-democratic means.
I want a Republican party that is healthy, acknowledges scientific reality competes for votes fairly on the basis of ideas, and that accepts the broad strokes of American democracy. -

That’s funny because I want the exact bolded thing for the Democratic party. -

I dont think its possible to remove the ignorance from the Republican Party largely because of its rural and uneducated base
The best case scenario is it gets so small by shredding its moderates and driving independents away. Then it loses National power and goes away
Then maybe a mainstream moderate real national new party could form and take its place

The way to fix ignorance is to educate.
How do you fix hubris and bias? -

When you have people believing in alien lizard people,Jewish space lasers, global cabal of pedophiles , hydroxychloroquine
There is no education that will fix that degree of stupid

Well that depends who is making the claim
If hubris is believing in science and education then you are not going to fix the perception of the uneducated that what they are calling hubris is actually facts and reality
Again I dont think we can fix the degree of stupid that is now taken over the Republican Party
-
I was asking a serious question to a serious problem which is hubris and bias in the political class of both parties.
You can educate. You can’t preach. There’s a difference. Telling people their stupid and uneducated isn’t right and you know that. -
The problem is not “both” parties. Yes, “both” parties are imperfect but to paraphrase Animal Farm, “Some people are more ‘responsible for the problems’ than others.”
Equating “both” parties like that is making an equivalency between a jaywalker and a violent felon. No Democrat is defending a violent insurrection and inventing lies like stolen elections. -
Yeah you’re right, the Dems are way more irrational and out of touch with reality. Forgive me for trying to come back to Earth and have a rational discussion. Thanks for showing me the light.
-
You are entitled to strive to show how Republicans are rational and live in reality, or rather their alternative reality. Sorry, that was KellyAnne’s statement about the Party of TRump that enlightened us all on their view.
Perhaps you can better explain her statement & my misunderstanding.
Show us the light. -
Because there’s 100s of examples of equally dumb things from all parts of the political spectrum. I was laughing to myself because I just asked how to fix hubris and bias and what could be done and then you followed it up with that statement.
-
I don’t have the answers. My point is that neither do you and we won’t have them unless we work together without ignorance, hubris, and bias – me and you included.

Both parties have anti-science stances. Just depends upon the issue.
The cause is different though. Usually the anti-science stances of Republicans and the working class stem from ignorance or poor education where the anti-science stances of the educated elite comes from hubris and bias.
For example, Republicans are not getting the covid vaccine at appropriate rates compared to Dems, however Republicans consistently assess the risk of covid more accurately than Dems due when asked about hospitalizations, deaths, etc. Republicans are focused on no masking in any way and Dems are focused on masking in all situations even when they don’t make sense (on kids, outdoors, etc.)
Both parties are sucking hard at science as a whole.
