Audi Q8SQ8 or BMW X5M50
Posted by radiologistkahraman_799 on February 26, 2022 at 7:21 pmCurious as to input. Considering one the two above (would love a cayenne GTS, but can’t stomach their premium). I drive 10-12K/year. Mostly highway.

Cant afford one but saw a MB GLE63 that looked pretty sweet.
Also understated are the Trackhawk and Durango SRT.

Do live in snow country? If so then the Audi is the better choice.

Almost entirely tangential to this discussion …
But I love my Audi Q7. It’s my first Audi and now I’ll almost certainly buy another.
I bought a used 2015 with 10,000 miles (dealer loaner) in 2018. With the pandemic and my decreased driving I am only at about 63k miles …. so will hold another couple years at least. But it’s good car. No troubles at all.
(And with snow tires and the quattro it is great in the snow)-

Agree. Back in 2015 I bought a pre-owned 2014 S5 with 2K miles. Now approaching 90K without any issues. Drives great with the snow tires…E-tron GT models look pretty awesome

My DD is a 2014 Cayenne Turbo S; have driven SQ8, no experience with X5. Have driven X6M; like my Porsche more. Have you driven both? What were your impressions?
Any of these are what I call transgender vehicles, i.e. they’re SUVs that think they’re sports cars. My advice to anyone considering them is don’t test drive one because anything else you drive will feel like a POS.
Between Audi and BMW, I’d pick Audi but will admit bias against BMW as anyone I’ve known with one (about a dozen at this point) has had major issues. In the 8 years & 75K miles I’ve had the Porsche, the SQ8 has been the only other SUV that didn’t feel like driving a 2.5 ton box. Audi does great interiors, but I’ve never found better seats than Porsche 18-ways.

Thanks for replies. Wife drives a Q7 that I quite like. Have been happy with it. We do not live in snow country… I’m liking recent reliability I have seen out of Porsche and Audi… I question the BMW but really like the price point I can build a nice X5 at.

If you want reliability get a Toyota Highlander and then just get a corvette to go fast. Now that’s a nice combo.

Meh… not really my style, but thanks.
Also considering the new Lexus LX600 (basically a fancy Land Cruiser, which I’ve always wanted). Hmmm..-
I looked at a GX Lexus before I got my 14 Jeep GC. They sort of have rock solid reliability and retain value. However, the interior felt like my sisters 2010 Forerunner. Like it was meant to have a Blaupunkt head unit. The new LX looks nice and they make that ultra high trim one. Just my opinion but in that size Id rather have a Yukon or Suburban. But again. Those are way past my budget. If I could swap out for anything Id probably go Suburban.
But Im just gonna chug along in my hybrid highlander for the foreseeable future. Its actually kind of fun to drive. Not because its fast but Im always trying to get the best mpg. Try and beat my records.

I love my Cayenne but it’s getting old enough that I’m having “What next?” thoughts. Would like to go all electric but I still enjoy doing multiday road trips and IMO all electric vehicles just aren’t there yet. I know it *can* be done but range and charging issues are enough of a PITA that I’m not ready to go fully electric yet. So I’ve been thinking hybrid. Toyota/Lexus seems best but I haven’t seriously explored all the options.
Having scratched the itch of luxury performance SUVs, I don’t feel the need to keep on scratching so I’ll probably go more mainstream on an SUV and satisfy my fun car urge with the Spyder.
