  • Ohio State vs CCF Diagnostic Radiology Residency Comparison

Posted by ayaum on January 30, 2021 at 10:28 am

Can anyone give a comparison of these two programs for DR? Looking at the quality of training and preparation for a career in academics down the road.

    Thanks!

I can comment on OSU (former resident).  Great people and culture.  Strong training all around I think, some areas are weaker than other, but I would cite neuro, MSK, and procedures (vascular and non-vascular) to be particularly strong. Lots of early MR exposure.  Dr. King (program director) is awesome and very supportive of the residents.  I wouldn’t say its very strong in research, but faculty are certainly doing research and you can get involved as much or as little as you’d like.  Prior residents have published in strong journals (Radiology, AJNR, etc). Many former residents now have academic jobs (many at OSU, and at least 1 I know at CCF). PM me if you have any more questions.

I think Ohio State is changing leadership, looking for a new Chair – but that shouldn’t change the training

Yeah Dr. White (former department head) stepped down.  Dr. King is the interim chair.  To be honest you won’t really interface much with the chairman so it really shouldn’t affect the residents.

Thank you so much! If anyone can comment on the training at CCF, that would be much appreciated. Its a tough decision for me

probably going to come down to location. Going to see pretty crazy pathology at both. columbus vs cleveland are a bit different towns with columbus being generally preferred by young professional crowd but maybe you’re from NE ohio or etc and want to stay closer although obviously they’re not very far apart.  columbus weather a little nicer

Isnt the volume of cases significantly higher and more complex at CCF compared to OSU?

CCF is one of the top hospitals on the planet. With that comes complex cases, name recognition, research funding, better facilities and ultimately stronger training in my opinion. Also CCF’s name will likley get you stronger job placement nationally and for competitive fellowships. If location isn’t an issue I think CCF is a no brainer IMHO.
