  • Chicago Teleradiology company

Posted by cody.a.keller_68 on May 1, 2023 at 5:24 pm

Anybody know about Chicago Teleradiology? Looks like a small company with no RVU targets that pays 400/hr as a 1099 contractor. That means you have to cover your own health insurance and pay all your own taxes. Wondering if anybody has worked or at least interviewed with them. Specifically curious about being able to subspecialize, control hours, and degree of job security. Would hate to sign on and then be told they don’t have enough work after a month or two.

Im also curious about this model. I would certainly consider IC work at that rate.

what they dont’ mention is- how much work are they giving u to guarantee $400/hr. im pretty sure its sizable as there’s no free lunch esp if they are guaranteeing $400/hr.

The owner Faisal Sami posts a lot in the Facebook group “Telerad” and “American Radiologists”.

No rvu targets? Maybe this guy is legit. Find it hard to believe he isnt skimming big time off his rads. But maybe hes a good dude and of the highest honor.

The owner posts a good deal about how to maximize efficiency for telerads including getting multiple scribes which you rotate through, constantly generating reports while you just look at images and move on to the next case. The model seems like super high volume high efficiency for good pay. How much is being skimmed is a valid concern. Would like to know some of the numbers for the group.

I spoke to them about a year ago. You have to read high volume. I dont remember how high but it was high enough that I was definitely not interested.

8 to 9 RVU an hour is ” high volume”?? lol…
I would be more worried about working for a company owned by one individual..what if he sells or something happens to him? What happens to your job then? The rads that work there don’t have scribes. I am pretty sure they pay med mal but no healthcare or other stuff. Prob a good gig for someone that has a few other 1099 jobs and and LLC etc…

Yeah I cant figure out how secure this job is if theyre not a big player.
In his video the owner says he doesnt have an rvu minimum but keeps track of productivity and speaks to the outliers.

Hoping someone whos actually worked for them will post here.

Its actually close to like 2 jobs to get to $400 an hour.  You have the option of covering I think something just like 1 hospital but if you are fast enough, they let you cover another one.  I have not worked from them but that is what I heard.  If you’re going to be reading that fast, mine as well work per click for anyone and it should get you to $400+ an hour

One should remember that “per hour” means the ball isn’t in your court unless volume is relatively low, just reminding you all, if you are signing up for volume then you are likely better off with rvu basis

this is economics 101, as striker says

$400 at this point in our career/current market is not a crap ton by any means or stretch, which means you’ll be reading a LOT for this guy

Ive contacted and discussed this position recently. To get to the 400 you have to read roughly 30-40 studies an hour averaged over the 9-10 hour shift. The contracts are to read for rad partner practices that cant find anyone and have massive overflow needs, so sustainability is an issue as Im sure RP will pull the plug if they ever need to. You get 250/hr if you cover one site (they said roughly 15-20 studies per hour), 400/hr for covering two sites, 500/hr covering three sites (they offer scribes you can hire but it comes out of your cut)

Also, even though the guy posts that every shift is available, they use that to rope you in – theyre only recruiting for evening, overnight and weekends, not day shift

And just as another fyi, the owner now lives in dubaijust to give you an idea of how much is being skimmed

Thanks. That’s very helpful. Def doesn’t sound like a good gig. OUt of curiousity, when you say  30 studies/hr, do you mean all modalities or specific subset?

They said mixed since its mostly inpatient/ER but to expect about half CT

Oh, and although the ad says no gimmicky rvu tracking, they do track rvu and I forgot to write down the breakdown but you do have to hit a quota, cant just do all X-rays and ultrasounds
The ACR ad is actually very misleading, I didnt see any difference with any other corporate tele gig

Wow you know it is bad when PE starts to subcontract their sweat shops.

If you want to be 100% or part-time tele, strongly recommend getting with one or two REAL radiology groups and working as a team — not as a cheap, commoditized “cog in the wheel” automaton who will be replaced in a New York minute when a cheaper rad who just graduated from residency/fellowship comes along.

If you do this you will find that your job is at least 3x-10x better than that sweatshop stuff. Trust me. Find real people who want real relationships. People too often forget, or forget quickly, that you put all this investment into becoming a rad so you should get paid accordingly. You’re not a resident anymore. And if you fail to realize this, someone else is making the skim (like this guy), and it’s not skim, it’s whole milk. And he’s laughing to the jizya bank

30-40 studies an hour my god…that must be around 25 RVU/hr so $16/RVU

Getting skimmed off by a sketchy middle-man in Dubai to sub-contract private equity for $16/RVU — every prospective med student’s dream when they want to be a doc

The irony here is this guy set out to level the playing field by giving tele rads “fair pay.”  Yet when he got into actually doing it, numbers worked out to just as bad as the Vrad’s of the world.

I would enjoy watching Dr Sami read. Would like to know his volume also.  Is he up there with SLAC? Maybe but I doubt it.

This group sounds even worse than working for private equity. The owner makes it sound so fair but who in their right might would sign for the above 30-40 cases an hour?

This is so classic- it sounds like a good deal and then you dig deeper and find out that its trash. 30-40 studies an hour? Lol
