I think what MISTRAD is referring to is that Obama’s candidacy was overwelmingly supported by blacks, who came out to vote for him in droves. Blacks in California voted over 70% in favor of banning gay marraige 30% against. So one could easily come the the conclusion that if Blacks had not been empowered to vote for Obama in California the Marraige admendment would not have had the votes to pass.
Presumably the proposition was voted on at the same time as the general presidential election. Well, maybe if one does the math it does work out that Obama distorted the demographics just enough to change the outcome of the vote, which would indeed be a great example of unintended consequences (e.g. support for a progressive liberal pro-gay marriage candidate resulting in local anti-gay marriage legislation).
