    Such an approach has a superficial appeal, but I think it is completely impractical  Marriage is by definition a legal construct.  You can no more make “marriage” not a legal construct than make a “contract” or a “crime” not a legal construct.  Marriage is a [b]legally[/b] recognized consensual union.  That is what it is.
