    don’t make a big fuss over it. If asked, just say “took time off for some very important personal reasons.” Leave it at that.

    People have a lot of reasons for having a gap, such as health problems, death in the family necessitating personal time off, pregnancy, programs closing, illness, etc. Shit happens all the time.

    I had to take a year off because I had to take care of a sick parent which was cross country out of town, and was able to relocate to another residency program a year later closer to my parent’s home. It all worked out. If you have completed a composite 4 years in radiology, passed your boards – you should be OK. A fellowship would also be helpful in this situation.
