  • job applications: any benefit in phone calls from references?

so I’ll be interviewing at the group I really want to join, based on what I know. They hold two interviews, an initial interview that is offered to a number of applicants, and then a second interview for a few people they really like.

is there a role for having my references (attendings where I did my residency) call them up to say good things about me? I know a few attendings who would definitely go to bat for me and swing for the fences.

if so, when do they call? I’d assume it would be after the first interview.

Yes. It will be very helpful. Tell them to call the group so you can get the job. Otherwise, you may end up doing a second fellowship.
